Wow, that totally ***** about the gauges. But You're right, it could have been worse. At least you're not looking for a regulator. I'll bet the tank is very secure now.

After looking at the early version photos on the last page I would like to see a few pairs of before and after photos so we can get a real insight to the transformation. Since you're waiting on gauges LOL.

I have a regulator that leaks but the gauges are good. You know where to find me.

I switched to a flow meter

Taumac,
first off, thanks for stopping in on my post and providing some advice. I thought i should check out your thread, as it's one that's been mentioned in various other threads. After 3 nights I'm caught up. The work you've done has been amazing. The initial photos from the "my shop" thread showed a garage I would be proud to work in. The transformation through all 66 pages is beyond impressive. The biggest take away from the thread is that I shouldn't be afraid to dive in and rebuild an entire bench just so I can gain an inch of clearance to make a new box fit.
although it seems as though you're at a good place now with the layout, I'm subscribing to follow along. Thanks for allowing us to step inside your garage and life.
Bob

Thank you for stopping by and thread. I still got some things planned so I havnt finished just yet. Thank you for following.

I only had it out of cart cause I was adding the casters. Think it's gonna be about $30 for new gauges so but at least not $100+ for mixed reg.

Unfortunately, I didn't take pics the few years I was working on this place before the garage journal. I'll can do a start of GJ to current.

I'll have to check the gauges you have. Mine are the smaller male verse the larger. I think you might understand. Maybe the pic can show you if they will work.

Thank you, I tend to be a organized person for the most part but it's absolutely a must to fit as much as have in here. It also takes some work to keep it all in check. The main thing is keeping me in check is wanting the ability to park cars in here. If I didn't keep that in mind it would surly spiral out of control. LOL

Re: My "Shop"

1 step forward and 3 backwards....

After I got the welding cart fully welded, casters tacked on, boards cut, and in place I decided to change my plan. This is one of the main reasons I never fully paint my projects until I use them and sort any changes made. LOL.

I was looking at dead space around the cart.
e05ced1f1a881888e327699ac895fc4a.jpg
And I thought what about have 2 carts verse the one? Is it doable? I got the tape out and started taking down numbers, doing alittle figuring and said F@CK it lets do it. So tonight I started other cart. Instead of 14 inches wide the smallest I can make cart for welder is 10 3/4 inches.
cbb1e9d99fe02a1c58041c8ae222994f.jpg
And new cart in place
a28b5c6cde73ecf489e8c61dd5e70605.jpg
It's tight but welder fits in new cart ( Btw I used same bad design as last time. LOL. )
Now I have 10 1/2 inches to the sink.
7bb9953b415dd075d5a444d6f3aca224.jpg
I would like 2 identical carts so I gonna cut one I already made to 10 3/4 I got some options to move the sink down if needed or move the HF boxes down.

Should come up nice taumac, like you say every inch counts.

Would you have got any more room by having 2 two carts front-to-back rather than side-to- side ? Sort of looks like it would have worked out the same looking at the photo.

Cheers Grumblebum.

I must say taumac, when you set your mind to something, you get things done. More room for something else? Or just more room?

I'm hoping it does. I thought about 2 back to back but not on this layout. It's good idea but wouldn't gain much. The area is almost a square at 22 deep and 21 wide.

I figured 2 smaller carts would work better than one I built or even rebuilding one to fill the empty space.

Re: My "Shop"

Got some welding done tonight on welding cart.
5eb2f90c393be01aca1171fadcf38c63.jpg
I also found my 2 new welding tools.
c13eb41cdf93178128a594a824f7feea.jpg
I had to fill a bunch of holes. I've learned on thing tonight. Have a bucket of water close to cool the copper pipe. Damn it transfers heat REAL quick that I felt it through my thick welding gloves. I should know that 5000+ degree transfers heat faster then 800 degrees but guess I didn't expect it. Lesson learned. LOL it's too late to grind welds but one step closer to have at least one done.

I've learn one thing during these 2 welding projects that I really really need to build a welding table.

Well I'll sure let you practice on mine.

Oh no 5 stitches to 5 burns. Be safe.

Been going through your thread again and .... ? Nothing? You been slacking there sir. That's ok cause until late I've been doing the same. I didn't get burned but came close. I guess flip flops aren't good welding footwear. LOL I didn't go out there last night to do much. I thought just clean up the place but didn't end up cleaning up the place but thought maybe a few welds and call it a night. Couple hours later I'm just about finish welding it all up.

LOL Now tell me you weld in shorts too. Not that it matters, 'cause I have a dozen pants and shirts that have multiple holes in them from welding. And usually the skin under them gets a little hot too. I only use leathers when I'm welding upside down. Don't like the bulk of them.

Gerard you're on to me. Darn! Yes tlcwent we weld in shorts, it's Florida.

I've been out of town some and also have numerous projects going on. I've been taking pictures but haven't posted my activities. My apologies. My latest purchase ended up causing me to blow a gasket or crack the head on my Tahoe. As they say, if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.
Plus reading about all the cool stuff the GJ crew is doing is a full time job.:willy_nil

Yep, shorts, flip flops, and tank top. LOL. Shorts, tee shirt and boots usually. Last welding apron I had was from HF and felt like wearing burlap. I checked out some at tractor supply last time but didn't get it. I did wear long sleeve other day only because using the chop saw and lately the dust gets in my skin. I'm sweating while I'm working ( it's Florida) and feels like it gets in my pours and I smell like grinder dust for 2 days. Its like everything, the older I get things bother me that never before did. Biggest one that does is bleach. I don't know where that came from cause I used a bucket of water mixed with bleach and a rag to clean patio furniture when younger. I never had a issue now I can't stand the smell of it. This getting older thing *****. LOL

Sorry about the truck. I saw thread about the Tahoe but don't have the experience in that field it have given a opinion. Isn't that the truth about GJ. I'm subscribed to sooooo many threads that sometimes it's hard to keep up with them. I once erased all my subscriptions and had over a 1000+. I'm slowing getting back up there. Good think I mostly concentrate most my time in there garage gallery. If stayed in Free Parking I think my phone will explode. LOL.

I got awhile until I hit those years. Is that considered 55 or 65? I made a life change to live life more now before something happens. I figure I'll work until at least 55. That will give me 32 years at my job but thinking 60 or 65 is more realistic.

Taumac, I think it is extremely important to live life, whatever your age. Everyone's life is going to end and it's a terrible waste to have put off doing the wonderful stuff for a 'later' that never comes.

To retire before 65 you have to do a little planning. If you have a pension plan where you work, you have a leg up. If you have medical insurance with your employer that can be kept after you retire, you have another leg up although getting health insurance on your own is a little easier these days. Also remember that before you turn 59.5 you pay a big penalty to withdraw money from your 401k or IRA so figure out how much money you need to live on for four and a half years.

I was fortunate to be able to retire at 50 and I have to say I haven't regretted it. I did go back to work less than a year later but it was a 6-week fun job that turned into 4 years. It's hard to describe how much fun work can be when you don't need the job. On one occasion I reminded an executive that he had me confused with someone who needed their job. The personal attack stopped immediately and turned into a "how can we solve this problem together" discussion.

I have pension and medical plan after retirement.

I could retire after 25 years but I'll be 48. Early retirement is 55 so I'll just make a check putting nothing into retirement. It was best 5 years up to 25 years. That was under a traditional retirement plan. After 10 years of that my company moved to a portable pension plan. Anytime a company changes things it's not for employee benefit IMO. Actually, the plan doesn't pay out more ( my hearing for others about to retire) but in my case it's really gonna help. See after 48 I put nothing into my pension under old plan but new plan you put monies in every year of service. If I leave say 60 I would have 37 years (10/27 old /new plan) put into retirement. I started at 23 so this really helps emp that starts career early. I have option to do 25 and find other career but I don't know. My company is VERY stable not ever worried about someone buying us. I would be very worried leaving where I'm at to only start somewhere new at say 50. Just for insurance reasons alone someone looking to hire isn't gonna hire a 50yo over a 21yo just on how much one will cost the company over another. Right now I just keep putting money away not worried where some looking to retire soon are freaking out.

I just haven't figured it out yet.:bounce:

Well if the golden years start at 65, I still have several yeas to go before I'm there. If they start at 55, oops I've been in them for a couple of years now.

In some ways ya'll are making me depressed to think about how many years of work I have ahead of me. To retire with full benefits I have to until 55, that is still 26 years away and I've already worked for 7 here. However, if things go right I could be done by 50 if it weren't for the whole health insurance thing. I like what I do and it allows me to have play money and usually a good amount of time to spend with my family as they grow. Ya'll nearing retirement and already retire enjoy yourselves and think of us poor Joe's still working for a living rather than working for fun.

Yeah it's not a happy topic. It's not fun talking about it when you're 40. When I got my job I was 23. What 23-year-old wants to start talking about a 401(k) plan, stock options and health care plans. It is kinda depressing to know you haven't reached the hump yet. If you could take one good thing out of it is that most of my coworkers didn't start their job until they were in their late 30s. Usually you work the job here worked a job there and then finally found a job with all the benefits and by that time you're 35 40yo. So in one way were both ahead of the game.

Yeah if I can only go back in time and buy stocks of Apple Microsoft and a lot of big companies hell I would probably never have to work ever again and just live off the dividends.

I went to work for IBM in 1964 when I was 20 and nearly died less than a year later. After 21 days on sick leave Social Security stopped taking money out of my paycheck so I got a raise from them. I also got a raise from not paying for a train tickets every week. A month after my mishap I passed the one-year mark at IBM and could invest 10% of my salary in IBM stock (for a 15% discount). My annual salary was less than $5,000 so it took a year to buy one share for $517. A stock split the next year meant I was able to buy a second and third share. By Thanksgiving 1967 we owned four shares worth more than $2,500. Sold the stock to pay cash for a brand new 1968 GTO. I continued to buy IBMl stock and sell it to pay for cars, boats and even houses.
CarsBoatandHouseinWappingers_zpscca7c890.jpg

We sold enough IBM stock to pay cash for our current house. If you don't have a mortgage or car payments when you retire, it's easier to live comfortably on a smaller income.
