Gerard

Thread name change and all new thinking? I am liking the entire thing. I need to get my nose back on here and see what your doing. I see lots of nice things going on in the place.

Best Regards
Herb

Thanks Herb. Really happy to see you come around. I always enjoy your visits. I'm not doing too much lately. I doing more thinking than actual doing around here but I'm making progress to a new overall layout. Problem is if you could read my mind you'll know exactly my plan. Unfortunately, Im telling it through words and pictures which is like me telling you a story after your 3 sheets to the wind and you lost your glasses. LOL.

Re: The Gerarded Garage.

So has his shop! :lol_hitti

I found what I was looking for. At least my new to me cabinets were not PINK! There are some oddball sized wall cabinets that I am trying to figure highest and best use for.

Hey, the cabinet was free from my in laws and trust me I hated the PINK too. Just imagine that inside a kitchen. Yep, its a typical Florida house from the mid 80's. Do you know it's scary that you can almost know age of a house by what colors they used inside? Do you walk into any unrestored house from the 80s or 90s and you'll see it yourself what the F@CK were they thinking?

I was just busting your balls about your pink ones. Last house we had was built in 1955 and had a full on pink bathroom. The cabinets I got came from my cousin's basement so they were probably the original kitchen cabinets, are mismatched sizes and were painted white over probably natural wood finish somewhere between the 60's and 90's. Price is same you paid and they changed some of my plans and lit a fire under my *** to get some work done.

Don't worry ball busting welcome here. Do you have a garage thread? Be interesting to see what your doing.

I wasn't worried about ball busting. Just explaining what I was doing. I do not have a thread yet. It is on the list of stuff I need/want to do.

Not much has been doing on around here. Well I can say nothing post worthy at least.

Few weeks ago I found this out at the curb for trash. Turns out it's a 1965 Remline.

Its turns out rust is mainly on the left side and has delaminated the metal in some spots. The drawers all in good shape as well as the inner box is all solid. Its been repainted all red but its supposed to be like a vintage Craftsman G/R. Here's what it suppose to look like.

I'm really not sure plans or even what I will use it for just yet. Im sure I'll think of something to use it for.

Today I brought home another item that I'm really glad I was able to get another of. You guys know I like twins. LOL.

The Gerard Garage... One of theses days I'll learn....

Well, I haven't been posting much as of late but that's not to say things haven't been going on around here. I've been doing a lot of thinking, planning and of course moving few things around. Well where do I begin....

I started to set by getting another MB.
0886a261815958cdf13e826cbaa354a7.jpg

Plan was in H2 to use shelves on the WW but after looking at space able to use its just wasn't working so decided to get ANOTHER MB. Great, I just figured all this **** out and I GERARDED my damn self. Ok new plan was to instead of 2 sets of shelves ( which where nice at 18" deep, 36" wide 72" tall) was to use twin MB for storage of tools. I have 12.5 to 13 feet to work with in H2 on WW. I decided that setting it up in H1 WW would give me ability to work out the bugs and have work space here.

This is going to be soooooo great because I missed having long bench to actually work on. I got it all mocked up and seeing how things are fitting. Tall cabinet, MB, WC (welding cart), MB. It fits great and here's some mocking up of the new and improved work wall. I gave up on the putting 44s here. I figured WHY would I set up WW with them when down the road there's no plan to use them like this?

6669e33ad6ff67da7ead49f232fc8097.jpg

I was able to clean off entire top shelf and half of the lower shelf on the WW. One MB will be grinding and sanding and other cutting.
f9dfd2cf12a5e0202b7cf30cf6e4e732.jpg

0f0a4c3abd37b5d11930e2c03284cdc9.jpg

I made new top for new one and cut down first one. Now I have a work top of 26" deep and 52" wide and gives me a 2" overhang on 3 sides for my UMS ( universal mounting system) and both have flip back splashes.

While getting WW set up I've also getting rid of **** ( cough cough) I mean stuff. I'm definitely gonna have to tip the trash guys next time I see them. Pass to weekends there's been a mount of stuff at the curb for pick up.

Its going layout V11. Revision 174942 and getting rid of stuff all at the same time. Great, its was only suppose to be adding a ANOTHER MB and had everything all planned out perfect. The garage looked like bomb went off this weekend.

Wait until you see where all the dust settles on the next episode of the GERARD GARAGE

To be continued...

Wow! It looks like you left no shelf or box untouched. Lots of empty pails stacked up there so you must have really did a big purge to the curb. Looking forward to the new and improved garage.

I'm glad to see bench grinders have been relocated so a ladder isn't involved to use them. :3gears:

Carry on, drink it if you got it.

Yep, I got a bug up my *** lately and if not needed it's going. I've been talking about really cleaning this place out for years. I got a majority of items I need such as MB, 44's, and other misc stuff like cabinets and carts it's time to get off my *** and clean out this place. If not going toward new layout or plan I got its going bye bye.

Are we talking about just this weekend?

Definitely the layout. The title is still in single digits.

Re: The Gerard Garage... One of theses days I'll learn....

I do admit it fun to change the thread name depending of the mood. Let's see it's been called

My Shop
The 5 Stitches Garage
The Gerarded Garage

I also thought of these names.

The Another Weekend..... Another Layout Garage.
The Worn Caster Garage

And one of my newest favorites

The ADHD OCD Garage.

You guys know me and the garage so let's get a few good laughs and see what name you would call it.

Gerard

Just checking in to see what's new. Heaven knows I can't keep up with all your doing. I think changing is good for the soul and the old outlook on life. Besides, "If you rest, you rust".
I am locked and loaded to see where you take the "Gerard Garage"next!!

Thanks Herb. Its always great to have you by. Well, my new direct can be put into one word. Simplicity. I've been saying it for years and when found out that we could inherit my inlaws house it really got thinking of doing it. Its not even about getting or not getting their house but its the subject that got me really thinking. So far sold the Wall of Craftsman and got 2 more 44's and side cabinet, got 2 mobile tables which will be storage/ work benches, got welding cart/ table project in the works, and most important is cleaning this place out. The changes I already done has made a huge difference.

Thank you for stopping by and don't be a stranger sir.

Not bad for first use. Nice to rolll outside and not get sawdust inside my garage. Cleaned up it nice also using compressor or electric blower. I still need strip bar and UMS holes drilled in top. One thing is that MB is a heavy SOB. I need to make a better ramp idea to roll in and out of garage because of my screen door tracks.

dd662a2636c8751dd36a6898ae9b1568.jpg

Tracks are aluminum and so is the ramps on both slides. They're fine for car tires because weight is spread out and softness of tires. Hard casters on heavy MB and toolboxes seem to dent the ramps and bend guides for the doors. I just add that to project list. LOL

Definitely nice to roll that work outside and keep the mess out there as well. For ease of rolling a heavy work bench over the screen tracks you might also consider some larger diameter casters with rubber tires on them. This would help both with ease of rolling the weight and bridge over the gaps in your threshold track as well without damaging them. Same principle as you mention with the car tire just smaller. Maybe a 5 or 6 inch diameter caster with rubber tires on them.
You keep the bench height the same by attaching some offset brackets first for mounting the casters unless you can handle the increase in height and just mount straight under the corners.

Great idea on large casters especially since I have a set for sale. Only problem is Gerard would need to break out the 6' ladder to use the bench top. :lol_hitti

That's it guys, just throw some gas on the fire, now the MB will higher than the rest of them, then G will be modifying those to match and then he'll be ripping out the bench on the other wall because the top of don't match, making spacers for the HF 44, oooooooooooooo:willy_nil.
Here comes another name change.:lol_hitti

I think if I was to mount bigger casters it would have to right under the unit. I think offset casters would give me the height I want but lose space side to side. Definitely got some options to ponder because I keeping those benches

Tonight I was able to install my new tv in the garage. Unfortunately, my old tv died.

ad1ae8a053a5dda591ad1ad1b401a427.jpg

Its 19" Samsung and picture is pretty good considering running through a cable box. If I want better picture I'll have pick up a HDMI cable for it.

Its nice to have tunes and tv back out here. Never know how much actually used it until it was gone. LOL

Gerard, I don't think you need to change the casters. All you need is a hand truck with big tires. A piece of plywood under both ends of the cabinet to spread the load and you can lift and pull one end over the track. Go to the other end, lift and push the other end over the track. If it were me, I wouldn't even mount the plywood permanently but I'm pretty lazy. Not Lazy Andy lazy but "Lazy Bob Heine might not get out of bed lazy."

Bob has a good idea there. I have used strips of 1/4" lauan plywood to keep refrigerators from marring a soft sheet vinyl floor in the past. Your casters are not any smaller than a refrigerator and you have the advantage of pushing rather than pulling on your benches. The dolly would give you the lift to get it started if it is still too heavy.

That's good idea. That sure cuts down on the rebuilding and reconfiguring time.

I tried using some hardboard but caster broke right through that stuff. I really think its the angle of the ramp verses the ramp idea itself. Its shaped like a curved threshold. Where the ramp meets the floor it almost makes 90 degrees angle. I have few wood pieces I keep that fit those slots in lower track. I've used them before to straighten out the tracks when they gotten bent. Thinking simple 2 piece ramp idea that key into 2 of 4 slots or angled piece to fill that angle.

Ok, ok I got it. How about a board slightly longer than your MB is wide that you bevel both long edges. Then in its back side attach a couple long thin strips that fit into the screen threshold track. Store it in the corner standing up and when needed lay it down into and over the threshold track to allow you to ramp over the threshold while your working outside. Once the project is done and MB is back inside you pick up the board and store for next use?
