Looks like rmalkow solved it! Man, you just can't trust these guys with your box, I bet he's been fondling it and putting his hands in its drawers:shocking:.

Yes, I need to pay a ransom in beer and wings to spring it loose.

G is always sending us links to stuff like this, egging us on to buy. I glad he does, have came across some nice stuff, even if it means driving for hours to pickup, but it's always ends up in beer, food and serious BSing.

I'm thinking now that one of these Vidmars is sleeping over in his garage that he may be hooked on them now, so stand by for a another major change !

I worked for Sears in one of their catalog call centers (remember catalogs?) in customer relations for a couple of years in the 80's. It was sort of a liaison between customers and manufacturers to resolve problems. IIRC, Waterloo was the box manufacturer at the time and the touchup color was a Krylon product. Sears sold it with their label on it in stores for about double or triple what you could buy it for at a hardware store. I used to have the numbers, but have looked through my notes and cannot find it. I suppose the colors have probably been through several modifications over the past 30 years. The hammered pewter was over and they were red cabinets with the blackish drawers. I do not remember ever being asked for the color of the drawers.

The colors of the boxes right after the red/gray was more of black with red cabinet. Then next era boxes wasn't black but more like a dark charcoal color with red cabinet. The pewter I found was closest I found to the original. If I put a freshly painted box next to a original it's hard to tell. Problem is your not painting it exact how that paint should be sprayed. Its really hard to explain. You get the color but not the effect if that makes sense. So I learned how to get the paint even without being blotchy but I don't get the original effect.

Looky there.... a little ray of storage sunshine! Nice cabinet! If that color clashes too much with your new HF cabinets I can come and help Shorty move it for you!

LOL, I had to change my locks and garage code to keep it safe from Shorty. He knows where I live and would be wouldn't think about "stoping over" when not there. LOL

Funny but, some "other" member showed similar pictures in the Garage Sale thread and claimed he owns this and it was just being stored elsewhere until he could get it. But I recognized your garage in the background. I said that can't be???? It must be that Gerard found another good deal for himself.
I bet one of your very appreciative Florida group members just wanted to bless you with this nice Vidmar.

LOL, I did find a great deal and yes one of my Florida members did bless me with this Vidmar. How long it stays here.... well that's a very good question. LOL

Hey, that's like dropping off a sports car and expecting not to take it around the block? Hey its still in one piece. LOL

I really happy I've been able to enable you guys as much as I have. LOL, I know your wife is probably ready to send people to find me. Truth is just because I can't get it doesn't mean you guys can't. LOL It also gives us a reason to meeting up at local Hooters for a beer and scenery.

I must admit I really like that cabinet. The group can now know Ive been Gerarded by Craig in my garage by Craig's new Vidmar. To figure out this riddle you going wait alittle for it to happen.

The trimmers, blowers and other will fit but no way mower would fit at all. Actually, a have a plan for them down the road. Its another project on the list to get done but can't do that until I possible get rid of another shelf on the tote wall. It will happen in time.

Not sure what you mean about tall A/C? You mean air compressor? Well that's tough question because actually I doubt I will have any outdoor cabinets or possibility of a shed in the future. I still got 2 more of those cabinets. One with landscaping tools and other my misc stuff yard stuff. My overall plan is to clean theses areas out and either use them to clean out other areas or just do away with them. I still have attic to clean out. I did clean most of garage stuff out the attic so all the garage stuff is in the garage but still have holiday stuff, fishing, golfing, camping, ladders and few other items. House 2 has a great attic space as well as my current house but again not sure down the road. Florida homes REALLY REALLY **** for storage. No basement, barely any attic ( like in traditional sense ) and small garage. Down here it either goes in extra bedroom closet or put out in garage and those are small to begin with. S

Thanks for the explanation of the pewter spraying process. I have had mixed results with the hammered finishes, likely related to the distance. My dad worked in industrial furniture coatings for 40+ years and when he was still working could spray with the best as far as faux effects go. I called him about using the rattle can effects paint one day and he told me to read the damned label.

As for your vinyl (plastic) lockers, how do they hold up to the weather? I am considering a couple of these to go on the outside back wall of my detached garage for lawn tools and other long handled items. Rain and snow would be my considerations. I figure I can raise them on blocks up to the 7' eave height to keep them off the ground.

Well those cabinets actually aren't even outdoor cabinets. They where originally just some plastic garage cabinets. My parents bought for their garage years ago. At about same time I moved in here my parents where getting rid of a few. I painted them color of the house to blend in but they been here at least 10 years. I think they helded up good considering they weren't made for outdoor use specifically. If you actually got some meant for outdoor use I believe as long as sun doesnt fade and start breaking down the outer coating they should serve you well. Although, you probably don't get that brutal sun we do down here. Plastic left out in sun down here doesn't have a long life span.

Thanks. I agree we don't get quite the amount of sun you do or as many days, but it wreaks havoc on plastic here as well. It did a fair job on my neck and head today. Liquid sunshine in the forecast tomorrow so I did as much outside work as I could.

Since I don't have an HOA up my ***, I have thought of building what is essentially a wooden gate on the back wall to cover up and lock up my long handled yard tools. I can paint to match which would make it a little less obvious to the few who could see it from the rear neighbor's places. Like you, my space is limited in this place, but I do have the option of another shed. We are trying to decide how many more years we can stand to live here. It is convenient to my wife's work and we have about decided to not make another move until retirement time.

I say chain it to the garage wall and hold out for lots of beer and food as a ransom.
But really, it sounds like you all have fun enabling each other.

Well I haven't done too much lately around here. LOL I got another matching cabinet from Craig to match the other one I already have. Theses cabinets were a craigslist ad we went in on and we got 3 of the 4 cabinets that were for sale.

In progress of matching a bottom frame to mount some casters and making a new one for one I had.

I was having alittle issue so made sure I wrote where everything goes because I'm coping the ends instead of mothering them.

I should have it completed in day or so. I'm planing for this cabinet to be a hardware cabinet. Just another step in this whole new going completely mobile layout I cooked up.

Well as you all can tell I took a BIG SWING at changing things.
Well I wanted to take down one more shelf to make more for maybe a 44 or something taller if needed. I started by taking GB advice. I move some **** to one of the outdoor cabinets. The stuff is just stuff that might or might not get used. I don't mind this but these cabinets are cheap and not that secure. I don't feel comfortable putting anything of valve in them like compressor or lawn equipment.

This opened up top shelf of the work wall to put the brown boxes.

0be40425cc209097cf0a72594103274b.jpg

All the stuff on lower shelf will go into "new" tall cabinet. So now I have top shelf open on tote wall.

1f52a5c1264a1922d676ee35537cbd44.jpg

Sad to see this go but it worked well for so long. Bye bye hanging storage.

47c73ea926688c6bb2da718cc2dfa31e.jpg

This is tote wall as it did sit after that.

5eef97a9afdad2c8ecf2dbc35abb2a0b.jpg

Looking good right? Yep, you all know this story... WHAT IF I ..... try to fit all the totes on top shelf? Well I was able to fit 14 of them from front wall all the way to the fridge.

15e904b6380d01858cb662cfd6e7b1f5.jpg

d8c1e133786f2cb7e3a5c5b40f81ccd2.jpg

So I lose 2 mop bucket locations and still have 3 totes left over. Well, just looking at it as let's just see what will work. In the future in going completely mobile and less shelves and just having 1 or 2 wrapping around the garage for totes. So this was a test session sort or let's try it.

Next day I come home and start to remove the bottom shelf.

0263d3e68acf06223aedd8d25e0a1e5e.jpg

Ok still have a issue and that's even my short DP won't fit on top of MB so then other shelf came out also. I didn't want to remove it but wasn't gonna work

a182df79de7f3b1dcdd0173fefa8eefc.jpg

Here's it all cleaned up.

26e9184e4a681902072c123ac30cf182.jpg

I can finally show one reason I never wanted to touch the tote wall again. This is all the attached it to wall.

ffdcbba45223945fee315446e6c845b8.jpg

6e74bfb72c5bc2e654be2053f40bc86b.jpg

3f036c9db60fa15a2935d61b4e4a4c1a.jpg

Its scary but they held all these years. The shelves made with only 2x3, 1/2 in ply, and those furring strips held up damn good considering the flexing they did. Unfortunately, the top shelf will come out and get new 2x4 as furring strips for better anchoring to the wall. I spent long time getting all the spacing just right over the years. Last thing I wanted to do is tear apart wall and redo it. Now it's only one shelf and 7 supports which is much easier project then whole wall just to replace the fitting strips.

I still figuring what will work where. I got tall cabinet to finish roller on, fill, and get painted. Lawn equipment which lost its home but which I got idea for that. I got ton of sorting and organizing. Overall, the transition from going from a built in shelves system to mobile system has been a challenge. The tall cabinets and MBs has been big help taking stuff off shelves. Its a lot easier to do when fit the right pieces. The funny thing is a year ago I had WOC and only one MB. Now sold the WOC and ended up getting 2 more 44's plus side and tool box from Shorty, 2 tall cabinets and another MB. Geez, I thought I was downsizing and think ended up with more stuff? LOL

Funny how this seems to be a common problem for many of us here on GJ. It does seem that you are getting more organized and eliminating some stuff along the way.
