Looks nice and clean Gerard.

Have you tried moving the 44's along that wall now just for fun to see how they fit, or will they stay on the other wall ?

GB

Well GB, you just sentenced the casters on the 44's to a early death.:lol_hitti

At least shorty and I have you to point to next time G's wife blames us for his constant Gerardeding of his garage.:beer:

So can you open the bottom drawers?

Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

Sure can. That's why build new version for both with narrower piece of angle so I could open drawers.

I used a spacer on other roller because I didn't have short front piece.

X2 on that.

My question is if the tote shelves are still on the flimsy looking 1X2 material. Are they anchored to studs behind drywall or do you have other construction?
Actually, lets call it tote wall and woc are concrete block walls while the back is drywall and studs. The furring strips where attached to the wall with concrete nails about every 12 to 16 floor to ceiling. I was quite surprised with how well it held on when I took apart the woc and redid that.

Thanks. I have all block walls and no furring strips. Have shot a lot of tapcons over the years.

I've had mixed results with tapcoms over the years. I've seen to have best luck with plastic wall anchors and screws. Thinking of going that route when take down that shelf and redo it.

I got enough finished to post the old tote wall (RIP) which is now become the fab wall.

Air compressor and vacuum corner.

To put in perspective what I'm in the middle of is like pulling everything in garage and putting it in the middle of the floor. Then take away half your hiding spaces to put stuff than putting it back together while sorting and reorganizing to it a whole new layout. Ive been trying to take baby steps but think took few steps too many. Its good because its forcing me to deal with things but just to much at one time.

Looks good. Assume you will build a shelf for the vac to get it off the compressor. Are the red bins over the grinders turned because they are too deep for the shelf?

I appreciate your thoughts on tapcons earlier today. I have done some with plastic anchors and had a few old drive pins also. Tapcons have mostly been for holding wall cabinets and have done a pretty good job so far.

The new thing? Well that's actually getting to the point of working in garage verse working on the garage. This is the fab wall I talked about before. I was taking down shelves so might as well try it setting it up. What going to nice is I always worked on the old WOC wall. The problem with that is when anybody come in they walk right into anything I'm working on to get into the house. Moving it to the opposite side of the garage contains the mess to other side and only disrupts one side of the garage instead of the whole garage.

The addition of the another tall cabinet is really gonna be nice to have a fastener and materials cabinet. Having the other to store shop stuff is going to great. Just in pass week of setting this up I can see its going to work out really nice. If not everything is on casters and I can easily move it around.

I'm on vacation this week so will give me a lot of time to work out details.

Thanks, I have some brackets in attic I used on the WOC chest I will use for the vacuum. I hoping to turn the vacuum and hose go over the cabinet to the bench. Be nice to have a vacuum set up ready to use. The red bins are turned because couldn't fit them the other way. I consider making some custom ones to fit but had those laying around and figure use them. I've had mixed results probably due to user error. I talked to others and they worked great. Maybe I used wrong size or wrong length into the cider block wall. I have about 50% success rate with them. I had very good success with plastic anchors myself. I used a lot of them in previous garage in which I had a wall of closet maid shelving.

Another day another project. I had 2 shelves I took down on the old tote wall just sitting on side of house. I decided to use one for a prototype project since nothing goes to waste around here. LOL

First I cut it down into 3 pieces.

c0140c7216e9fffb176f6c2e118ae936.jpg

I made 4 uprights to old the shelves and took all the extra wood I had laying around to connect the front and back uprights. I then added some casters. Here's the prototype finished.

122aeba55bb2199667bdd58e4407b561.jpg

a37c273b3fbb8aa13cfd987ffdb85b0a.jpg

You might ask what's this is for?
Well when I turned the tote wall into the fab wall I evicted all my gas powered lawn equipment. Even then I really didn't have a solution on where to put it. I had it in the corner for few days.

13a08df4e727a84fc892ecba6fe62ac8.jpg

I loaded it up with my equipment.
d69b4e4a86db58ecc4d1b549ee8503e4.jpg

0e157401ab55dff1b2d0aa2faeb62f73.jpg

I didn't have room for the edger or hedge trimmer. That's quite alright because I don't use. I can bring them down to inlaws for use there. First project from fab wall is probably ugliest item I build but it should be useful.

Not that ugly! Honest.
But it really doesn't matter anyway. A coat of paint and. .....

What was I thinking, talking about paint in Gerard's place.

Well GB, you just sentenced the casters on the 44's to a early death.:lol_hitti

At least shorty and I have you to point to next time G's wife blames us for his constant Gerardeding of his garage.:beer:

CB, we'll get Gerard a few spares and he can start doing cabinet caster rotations every 5 miles. :lol_hitti

I like the new fab area layout though and good idea with the x-tote shelf trolley. I still have storage issues for the mower and trimmers, I have a plan but have to plan it carefully by building up brownie points on some other projects first. ;)

G, when you have the cars out again can you please do a pic from the front of the garage looking back in, I need to reorientate myself again with what is where now.

Oh and what happened with the big cabinet ? I didn't get that post. Did it fall off the caster or something.

Uh-Oh, there it is. I was wondering when the "P" word was going to appear in this story. :scared:
But maybe later when the design is all done. I know those shelves would not go to the curb but would live a new life back in the garage somehow. Good use of the old materials for your lawn equipment.

LOL, caster rotation. Now that's funny.

Thanks, The new fab area ( once I get garage back in shape ) is going to be great. Its just refinding homes for things that was displaced by making it.

GB, my idea was mobile cart to hold all the lawn equipment and be able to roll it out to driveway. Not sure how much that will actually happen but at least I can move it around like everything else.

Is this the big cabinet your speaking of?

8ed9e99fe9ac5d3d4d7f49b2dc4c1b52.jpg

The big one on the left? Well when expanded the WOC it got exchanged out for the lateral file. Then the lateral file got moved out for the MB. The lateral file and the big cabinet are at my fathers place along with about everything else I didnt use here. Its like a 5 Stitches annex storage facility. LOL. Here a picture of dads place and if followed along to can see all my old stuff.

fc28b172979c8a55cd2479d659afcd65.jpg

The lateral file and 10D machinist chest are in his shed.

Once I get place back in order I definitely will take some new pictures.

LOL the P word. That didn't take long. LOL. Actually, keep telling everyone the garage that in 2008 when they did sinkhole remediation they emptied my whole garage into a pod and fully painted ceiling, walls and did epoxy floors. 10 years of me have taken its toll. Of course once things get done I plan on painting some things. Its just more important right now to get things back together. Wife's usually not happy with fact I'm doing a full blown garage remodel again. Got to keep wife happy. LOL

The shelves.... what can be said I'm cheap. I had wood laying around and theses shelves waiting to be cut up for garbage. So might as well make something useful even if it's a temporary solution until I can build another better version. I also reusing the another shelf too. LOL. I'll update that in a later post.

I like the mobile lawn cart. Are those casters properly rated? Will cart tip over?

Paint :headscrat :headscrat :headscrat

Tomorrow would be a great day to paint garage a light grey. On my house, I went from the flat contractor white to a semi-gloss light grey. Made a huge difference in the garage looking finished.

Thanks, Those casters probably not even rated yet alone for what I did. I'm a rebel and put casters on stuff probably shouldn't even be on casters. LOL. I really like the white because it really lightens the garage up. Only issue is I painted the garage with a semi gloss and when they painted it they used this elastomeric flat paint. [emoji35] I'm not going to empty the whole garage to repaint everything. I'll just touch up areas that gotten dirty over the years. Maybe when I get next garage do some multi color paint job.

Sorry mate, was talking about post #3044 back a page. Where you have the new draw cabinet on it's back.

GB

OH, bhahahahahahahaha. Well I guess I should fill in that joke. Well there was a thread about guy asking about putting his Vidmar cabinet on casters being Vidmar doesn't recommend it.

2nd post in this guy post this. Sorry taking screen shots of thread on phone.

8971ee781dda3bab8665ce93a77a355f.jpg

We jump in and sure you can put on casters just use common sense. I asked to poster what happen that the cabinet fell on its back?

a20c910c1f1c06f4540c8d1f55522de6.jpg

He wasn't paying attention and left off liftgate. So I say so it's the cabinets fault on casters that it fell and his reply back was. (The post above his is some of my post.)

4d8adc580d8ab67cd069362acd4b64a6.jpg

So Craig, Shorty and myself all replied to this thread. Its become a little joke. I didn't posted on that thread because I think I made my point over there. I thought it would be funny to snap a picture of it when It was on it back getting the caster frame installed. LOL
