There's more than two tones going on there. If we call it Patina does that mean I can leave my walls looking the same way and suddenly become fashionable?

Big G setting the trend! :rocker::bowdown::rocker:

LOL, suddenly fashionable? Only thing sudden around here is how many times a day I come up with new layouts or change things. LOL!!!

During a offline conversation about garage layouts it was said that if I counted just the thoughts of moving things around it would probably out number the members on the GJ. LOL. So I said I should start a thread called “The quarter million thoughts of G”. We all agreed that it would be tooooooo scary. LOL

We damn if hard to post this after thoughts of Hooters!!!

Well there’s been a layout change at the 5 Stitches. That shouldn’t be a shock but it’s a new thought and it’s working at my MIL place.

The thought was simple and it was to fully spilt the garage into 2 areas. In MIL case it was to create good pathway from garage door to entry and in front of car. Here’s her place.

9a4f028d2b7aea553e9d59e670ef1d68.jpg

Now this work great because everything is open and it’s a non obstructed path around car. Everything she need to get to is in fridge, first 2 cabinets, or on the shelves. Those cabinets brought up a issue with my garage setup for that place. See I never measured the entire garage over there. I measured from fridge to garage door and side door to garage door. Thats how I come I bought 4 44’s and side because I had 15.5 feet to fit them.

There’s orgin idea.

Then I got the file cabinets so I thought this.

a4239aa399be98b605b9a599570549d4.jpg

Now with layout done I know what’s going to fit IF I move there so I know what to keep while moving forward here. Now back to those cabinets. So one day moving stuff around and I’m thinking about getting rid of one of those cabinets and talking to someone about it. I measure the depth and come to realize there 24” deep. Then it dawned on me.... OH F@CK. See those cabinets where deep and came out to about edge of garage opening. So I always figure they where 30 or more inches deep. That meant garage was only 20x20 and not the 22x20 like mine. I’m having issues with the file cabinets and tall cabinets in my place going into pathways here and if move there I’m F@CKED by 2 feet narrower. That explains why my garage always felt wider and bigger because it actually was. I thought it was just because of way my FIL has it set up. His layout was based off a single car and it could barely fit that and it was a Ford Escape.

So I had to tell my lovely wife she was right because all along she didn’t told me everything wasn’t going to fit. Which is kinda ok because I’m not really sure she’ll be able to handle moving down there even if only gonna live there for about 5 to 10 years until we find are forever retirement home.

So that leaves me with this layout for the current 5 Stitches Garage.

Well the plan was not to bring anything more into the garage. LOL. Actually not changing..... much from what you guys saw when you where here. I still going along with plan and just taking some good advice. Some guys told me to live for today so instead of waiting im gonna ahead with some future plans now.

My MIL garage is really coming along and it’s just gonna be place small repairs. She loves all the space just rearranging things I have and it’s really a big safety thing. She fell years ago and broke her hip and fell shortly after that and broke her wrist. The older she gets the more we worry. As for the house and our possible future I put the decision in my wife’s hands where we live. Stay here or move down there? At this point it really doesn’t matter. Just the idea of that place was probably best thing that could have happen to my entire shop. I don’t have to many changes to go and I’ll be able to get to those fun projects.

Well yes and no. I’m playing Tetris in my MIL’s garage but I’m not using it for any of my stuff. Ok I did bring lawn mower down there. My son doesn’t have a truck anymore so I didn’t want no excuses why he couldn’t mow his grandmothers lawn. When I need to do mine I just run down block and get it. I also brought the Stack On tool box down there just to put all tools in one spot. My FIL never owned a toolbox stack. He relied on pegboard and his wood cabinets for tool storage. Things where everywhere so that puts all hand tools and many other things all in one spot. Some point we get my MIL place and same goes for my fathers place.

My mom passed away in 03/2011 so I’ll deal with all his stuff when that time comes. A lot more sentiment value on my father stuff then my FIL but also my FIL has about 1/10th of the stuff my dads has. I’m really hoping I’m living in a 3 car house at that point in time. My FIL and my father are in many ways tend to be hoarders. I can say at one point I was too. Some might say I still am but I’m definitely working on thinning things out.

Gerard,

Two garages to arrange......

What fun!

Well it’s not always fun I can say that Jon. My MIL place really isn’t that bad to make into something what will work for her. I work on mine for few days and then work on hers. A lot of stuff I just set off to one side of garage at both places so can park the car inside. My place is the worst just because trying to do to much at one time.

G is going to have to quit his day job with two shops to deal with. I'm sure he's already had many sleepless nights just thinking about how many times he'll have to rearrange things only to do it another couple of hundred times.:D

Wow G, those organisers were a good price. Will the draw be "tippy" heavy with the trays do you think if you slide out to get the tray at the back ?

I've been looking for an arbor to fit old thin 5" grinder discs - will see if I can find those ryobi's here somewhere.

GB

Sorry GB, somehow missed this post.

I’m not sure about the weight. I know with lateral file it was tippy. The that 3 drawers and wide but shallow base. This 4 drawers and narrow but deep base. I’m thinking I shouldn’t have a issue but I do have free weights from my old workout days I could use as ballast if needed. I’m sure you can find a arbor. Its finding fit one which is a pain. What I do is get a washer and make a spacer to fit the wheel.

Hmmm. I detected changes since my previous visit, but you and Shorty dropped in between times. Maybe not since your last visit. Maybe he also thinks that without pictures it didn't happen. Dunno

^^^ This..... although I have felt a disturbance in the “Gerarded” force.... I believe there may be a secretive giant Tetris experiment being played out....

It's been almost two months since we have been there, so garage gods only knows what's happening.

I think we may of pushed G's wife over the edge last time we was there. We unloaded the 56" Lista that Shorty picked up for me and rolled it into the garage and left to go to Hooters. When we got back, the doors didn't even slam on the truck whe we heard " what is this #%^*€?£+{ box in the garage?" She then asked me if I was taking it. No, I said, I couldn't take G's brand new to him tool box...............
The glued casters is a real possibility, for all we know Gerard May of been glued to his chair and only allowed to watch TV.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

G has been spending money on a travel trailer. That's gonna be his toy for a while. And of course it doesn't fit in the garage.
