Tonight for the 2nd time the bag in my shop vac blew a hole in it as I was blasting. So now there is dust everywhere. What can I do to remedy this issue which keeps happening? Ideally I’d rather not spend $200+ in doing so but this *****!

Well the Cyclo-blast manual came in, I hoped it would have had more detail to it. I now know that there are suppose to be two lights inside the upper corners of the cabinet. That's all I can tell from the parts manual, no idea what they look like?

Something like this? They look like boxes with some sort of light in them. Glass and silicon could be used to seal the holes, then lights installed in a box over them. Looks like yours had a center hold down post.

Just a thought....check out Nilight LED lights on EBAY

I gotta mention......I just bought a pair of these LED lights for my zero turn mower.
They are super bright, sealed, and check out the price! A small 12VDC power supply or battery tender should run them just fine.
NOTE that these are FLOOD not SPOT, they offer both styles. The Flood type cover a wide area. You could probably fit a piece of cabinet window acetate over them to keep the lens from frosting, OR they also make a flush mount style that could be mounted on the outside of the cabinet over a clear plastic cover.

I'll look into a sealed led light, thank you. This pic is from another Cyclo-Blast on ebay only part I can see is the flood type bulb, no unit on top of the cabinet.

My compressor is in an insulated and dry walled 8x20 room of my shop. Whenever I run the compressor for long periods while cabinet blasting, it gets pretty warm in there. The room is not on my central heat pump/ac due to the heat load produced.

I am adding another compressor pump and motor on the vertical tank in the corner of the picture, so it will be getting even hotter in there. I installed a 6 inch through the wall vent fan with outside louvers to help drop the heat in the room. I also installed a thermostatic switch so that the fan comes when the room is around 85 degrees. I guess I will see how it all works out when the other pump is up and running.

The pump is an old school Curtis C80 single stage with 3-3/8" bores with 3-1/2" stroke. I have had it for about 25 years, but took it apart to move after the flood. The crankcase got wet but no water got in it. The motor will now be a dual capacitor Baldor 5 hp with 1-3/8" shaft. I think it is a 184T frame, a big boy. Initially it will be set up for 684 rpm until I do some testing to see if I want to up the speed. My initial plan is to tie both compressors together with an alternating run control to give each more cooling time.

Thanks for the consideration! I will need an allen bradly overload heater number W61 when I get a chance to find one. I have a few lower amperages like W13, W17, etc. if you need those ranges.

Foot operated system for blasting cabinet

I once saw a picture of a foot pedal operated home made DIY for blasting cabinet. Not been able to find it anymore. Any leads ?
thanks

One way is to use an electric foot switch to control an electric solenoid to release air to the gun. My large cabinet works like that. Pneumatic foot pedals are available at some surplus places. I have no good ideas on a home brew unit.

Here’s pics of foot pedal actuated air valves on my blast cabinet and sheet metal shear.

Probably easiest just to buy the valve.

The biggest consideration on a foot pedal is to insure it will provide enough flow through it. I try to use one with at least 1/4” to 3/8” NPT ports in the body of the unit.

I ordered a complete manual from Vista Industries for my Cyclo-Blast cabinet and they will send instructions on converting the dust collector from dust bags to filter cartridges. I'm told the bags are good for 5 years and all of mine are shot.
hello 930dreamer! you said you were getting a manual for converting your dust collector to cartridge type, did you ever do it?

Greetings all. I'm hoping to have my qt54 set up soon and I want to run a hobby level blasting cabinet. Largest item I can foresee placing within is a car wheel.

Your thoughts, if you don't mind, on a Eastwood vs Tptools cabinet.

Thanks
John

Hi John, I’m happy with my TP cabinet.

I’m taking advice from the knowledgeable people on this thread and will convert it to pressure feed as opposed to siphon.

I just came across a bigger compressor that will need to housed and wired and a pressure pot that will need to be plumbed.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply.
I have a sandblaster that has 10 bags in the dust collector and has a handle towards the top that can be shaken to shake dust from the bags from time to time and the bags are shredded. Still looking for ways to convert it to cartridge filer.

Rebuilding that compressor, IF possible, is a very expensive exercise. Price seems like dreamland IMHO.
