Re: Attention GJers-Check your Photobucket accounts

I'm new to this. I learn much more from seeing a picture. You all have great ideas.
Just tell me how to see pictures instead of the stupid photobucket ad.
Please

I just logged into photobucket and posted this random picture, and it seems to be working like it did in the past. Am I missing something or did they do away with their ransom?

Photobucket will not show any photos unless the owner of the photos pays a $400 per year subscription.

Re: Attention GJers-Check your Photobucket accounts

If you are using FireFox there is an add-on that gets around PhotoBucket's BS.

No telling how long it will work, but I have it installed and see the photo fine.

There's also a version for Chrome, but I don't have a link for that one.

Photobucket Embed Fix 0.0.2

Re: Attention GJers-Check your Photobucket accounts

Well hot damn! You sir win the internet award of the day! I installed it in Chrome in less than 30 seconds and I can see my pics again. THANK YOU!!!!!

Good to hear it works in Chrome as well.
Since all the pics are there, it would be wise to go to whatever threads you have created and Right Click anywhere on the page and do a "Save Page as" and store it with the text and pics on your computer in case PhotoBucket figures out a workaround around this workaround.

Also, if you Edit your post, you normally will see the photo embedded in the editor. If you select the "Switch Editor" mode in the upper right hand corner then you will see the links to all the photos as they are stored on PhotoBucket. This is helpful to associate the picture with it's name as stored on PhotoBucket. It's also helpful to be able to associate the actual name with the pic if you save all the pages to your computer.

See attached image on how to access the "Switch Editor" mode.

Good Luck.

Re: PHOTOBUCKET... What are the best options and alternatives...merged

Just thinking out loud, I haven't tried this myself, but if somebody wants to archive a thread for posterity, we could:

- Installing that plugin to display the broken images
- add "&showall=1" to display all posts
- print it to PDF (before PhotoBucket do something to stop the plugin working)
- attach the PDF to a post in the thread, so new viewers can go back and see all the old images into the future

I'd love to go through and do that as a public service for all my favourite threads, but unfortunately I really don't have the time!

If anybody is interested in doing this for one or more threads, I'm happy to try it once to work out the details and see if it works.

Ok so I am a little late to the game, as usual.

I have over 5K pictures on Photobucket. How do I download them so that I can close the account? Is there a way other than one folder at a time?

May have been discussed already, if so please point me in the right direction, these PB threads have gotten long.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I just went through the effort on my garage build thread. Using the firefox plugin, I was able to go through each post I made in my thread, save the images, and re-upload them. This time, I just used the built in attachment function on the forum. This way I know they're not going anywhere. It doesn't read as cleanly as it used to (since I'd write some text, followed by a pic, more text, another pic, etc...) and now they're all just lumped in at the end. Oh well. Better than nothing.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I had to set all my albums to private so I could see them. Then you can download them to your computer. You still have to do this around all there pop up ads.
You can still use the site for free if you do not share any photos...crazy huh...

Every time I try to down load an album I get that typical PB ....

Hmmmm.Something didn't click. Want to give it another shot? Try again now.

So you try it again and clicking on it does nothing.

If you right click on any of those images at the end, you should be able to "copy image Location"

Then go back to where you want the image in your text/story. Click on the image icon, and past that link into the window.

Or type ]img[ <insert image link> ]/img[

(but 'swap' the directions of the square brackets- if i put them in right, they will be interpreted as commands)

The the board softaware will insert that image you have uploaded into the text....

Using Firefox I found that they have a fix. It allows me to see your stuff. Go to the menu (the 3 horizontal lines on the upper right). Click Add ons and use search for "Photobucket Embed fix". Click install!

The best fix for PB is for everyone to delete their account for trying to make subscribers pay an exorbitant amount of money for a simple hosting service and blocking access to those photos. Let them die a painful and lonely death like so many companies that thought they could get rich quickly at the expense of their subscribers.

+1 for imageshack! Fair price and easy to use. We will see if they are still in business in a few years, but I keep copies of my pictures in Dropbox, since I’ve already got the space.

Thats exactly what I did!
I don't mind paying a fair price for a service, however, their price was ridiculous for 99.99999% of casual users.
Charge me $3.99 per year; I'm in, at $399.00 per year, I'm out!

Re: Attention GJers-Check your Photobucket accounts

You can post your images directly to Garage Journal. You're limited to only 7 per post (why 7??), but you know that they're not going away until GJ does...

Although I've had some photos I've uploaded here just disappear.
I have tried doing that but my photos seem to be too large and I can't find a way to shrink them down enough. Suggestions?

I've not had any luck recently posting straight to gj either. It always gives me some generic code and reason. I wish that was fixed. I hate this damn tapashit app.

Re: Attention GJers-Check your Photobucket accounts

My thread is screwed by Photobucket as well. Used it for years with no issues and now they want $500 CAN a year to get the pictures back - as if! Should be illegal for them to hold photos hostage.

Re: PhotoBucket issues,problems and solutions

I'd suggest before anybody starts deleting their PB accounts to reattach pics if you have a build thread or something similar.

Simply right click, save and edit your post to attach the image. Believe me, I know it takes time but in the long run, it'll be worth it to you, your fellow members and the forum.

Re: PhotoBucket issues,problems and solutions

It's AMAZING how many people Photobucket screwed over, and how many build threads/etc. in forums they have destroyed. The worst part is once you've viewed the photo on a forum, if you attempt to go to that gallery in the normal Photobucket site, you still see the "3rd party hosting" image. In the meantime, they've covered the site in annoying ads/etc.

Completely ridiculous.

There's always more to the story.

Yes, what Photobucket did hurt us here on The Garage Journal and it broke a lot of useful threads across the internet.

But it didn't have to.

Did you know there is software, such as XenForo, that a forum, such as The Garage Journal, could have used to hold onto externally-hosted images that are in posts and automatically start serving them itself in case the original source goes away?

I'm not a computer guy.. I learned about this by accident.

I deleted all the photos on my Photobucket account last Sunday. I did this because I paid an annual rate, and it was about to expire. I didn't like what Photobucket did to it's paying customers, and I don't want them to have my photo's.

So after I deleted all my photo's I went back and looked at various threads I created, here on The Garage Journal, and on other sites. It was no surprise that my build thread here on The Garage Journal was decimated, we've all seen this happen.

What was a surprise:

Back in March 2011 I started a build thread for a '65 C-10 pickup, on another free website. All the photo's are linked via Photobucket.

I look at that thread today, it didn't change at all even though my Photobucket account photo's are all gone. Here is that thread: Lakeroadsters' Build Thread: '65 SWB Step

Just wanted to share this with everybody here, it was an eye opening experience for me.
