Boiler, I'm always up for checking out dust collection plans. Sadly, I'm way to comfortable working in a couple inches of dust.
With the help of a floor jack, those craftsman drawers are mounted. The space below should be great for slipping in a bin for scraps. The drawers to the left are just propped in. I want to decide if I'm going to mount the motor below or not. Also plan for a switch on the front of the bench.
After some googling I noticed many a lathe sitting on risers. This actually helps with mounting of the pulley arm thing and cleaning. So, we are up an inch and a half on maple 6in squares.
Any ideas before I get too far ahead of myself?

I'm leaning the same way Strout, mount that motor below. Backsplash is a good call. I need to dig up some thin material. Maybe I need to order up a resaw blade for the bandsaw.

Couldn't pass this up on the Craig's. Two things surprised me when I picked it up. It's badged Dunlop, which was not shown in the listing, and its smaller than I expected. Still heavy as hell, but not as big as the craftsmans ive moved.

And the base. With original wheels! It's low, like 23 inches, and not original to that drill press.
School me on these bases? I'm thinking a table saw base.

Thanks Shootinok, now to find them both the right home.
And the progress of the day. Sanding. Plan to get some clear on the bench tops tomorrow.
Oh, I need to cut a 22 by 24 piece to go under the drill press too.

Clear is on. Oil based poly leftover from floors years ago from a previous home. Looks all warm and homey!

Thanks Couch and Grumble.
Busy weekend with the fam, but I did steal a minute after pumpkin carving to get the vises on. Little one on the end is a Colombian, which will get some wood jaws. The heavy guy on the front is not marked. He's heavy, opens to over 13 inches, was a light blue, and has theses bolts as the handle. Any idea on a maker? Could be modern? Foreign? Anyone have one?

As you know Boiler, space is limited. The bike vise will mount in the heavy unknown woodworking vise. Of course, I don't have such a thing... yet.

Order a Park Tools benchmount model. Then you can build a wood mount for it to clamp into the big vice. Pedro's has a benchmount model too IIRC, but I think the Park one gets better reviews. I need to order one for myself as well.

The Park is nice!
Got the bench level and attached to a ledger on the wall. Then added a post to help support the overhang on the back. And... the finishing touch. Ahhh! Just noticed that's the wrong badge. Supposed to be a crown top. The original particle board top had the crown badge. I've got to go rip this one off.

Boiler, I think I do need the right stinkin' badge.
I was really torn here. I like the heritage style badge, which is probably why I stuck it on, but it was just so wrong. I trashed the original top as it was **** particle board, but I had to return the badge. The bench thanks me.

I'm new to Apple and underwhelmed. Anyway, what's with the sideways pic posting? My iPhone is smart enough to know exactly where it is on the planet and report that to every data collection site worldwide, but can't decide which direction is up?

I wonder if it has to do with rotation lock? I have it happen to me as well, I just edit the pics before posting and then they stay the correct way.

Just found your thread Squash. I was eager to read thru as my tinker room is also on the smaller scale (12' x 16') but, I cannot see any of you photos until around page 10 or 11? Really curious to go back and read thru your progression. Anyway you could fix the photobucket links?

I was forced to switch from an iPhone 6 years ago when I started my new job. Company phones were all Android devices and I hated it. Then we got Samsung GS4s and that made the pain go away. My wife and daughter are still using iPhones but now that I've been using a Galaxy phones for so long, I can't stand iOS or iPhones... but sometimes my GS7 will orient the pic wrong like yours did. You just have to edit the pic to force it to landscape view.

Ah man SRX, you're missing some great stuff!

If you use Chrome, there is a photobucket embed fix that lets you view the pics normally in most cases.

EDIT: Just went back to page 1 to check and now the embed fix isn't working so the ****$ucker$ at Photobucket have made more changes. I am so glad I deleted all of my pics from there before they did this ****. I did it because the website was so slow and had so many ads it looked like a MySpace page.

When I hold the camera sideways, they post fine. It may have nothing to do with Apple.
SRX, welcome. 12 by 16 is a palece.
I actually went back and tried to fix a pic. Some are not on the old phone, but are saved off in the clouds somewhere. I'll replace where it's easy first, then go back.
I've been meaning to, so thanks for the push.

I know! Alot of Squash's ventures hit close to home. I do enjoy other "small" area threads. It is amazing the creativity that comes up.

I do understand. I was hoping it was an easy fix to feed my fix. Thanks for sharing! I am following from Wistah.

Depending on how you're preparing your photos for posting here, see if you can turn off the Exif data - that may be making the picture 'think' it needs to be sideways.

So, 10/26/17 at 728 pics from page 5 on are showing. Can someone confirm this? What's up?

OK, weird... I thought you had changed over the pics from page 5 on... but now I see they are still on Photobastards. So the Photobastard embed fix plug-in for Chrome is working for the pics on page 5 and on, but not for pages 1-4. Really odd. As you have uploaded the pics on the earlier pages to GJ, they are now showing up as attached images...

Must have just been some teasing by the Photodouche organization. No worries. I have all the pics just need to get them in.
Halloween party prep has been ongoing, so no shop fun.

I measured my hobby area in the basement last night. The useable floor area is 5-1/2 wide by 7' long. My new bench is 2-1/2' deep by 5-1/2' long. That leaves me 3' of room in front of the bench and I'm going to have to move my little Craftsman tool chest off the wall.

It will be "cozy", but that's enough room for it's intended uses.

Been a while gents.
The laundry room was down to a single fluorescent tube, so I grabbed two of these from Job Lot for 15 bucks each. Super bright, white, and cheap.

I was so pleased I grabbed another for the basement storage area and one for the shed. Of course it’s like 8 degrees, so perfect weather to hang a light. May grab another for the shed if the single doesn’t cut it.

And since I had to move the bike to hang the light, thought I’d cruise the snowy bike path. Never ridden in snow. I was worried about stability, but she managed great.

Man, riding in the snow... that's diehard.

Do you ever make it up to Spags in Shrewsburry? When we lived in Mass we lived in Shrewsburry so Spags was just down Rt.9 for us. I still miss that store 20 years later...

Spag’s! Ha. I remember being dragged there as a kid. I’ve cruised by and I’m thinking it’s gone. Google confirms it closed in 2004. That place was a trip.
Kiddos are home from school. Rain just switched over to snow here by the coast. Blizzard warning through the day.

Ah man, that's too bad. I have never been to another store like it. We used to go at least every other week.

I'm taking my daughter back to Purdue Saturday. They already have 6" of snow on the ground and it will be snowing there all day Saturday and Sunday. This past Friday we drove to Cincy and they had snow that night. First time driving the Forester in the snow and it was completely uneventful... as I expected. Subbies just rock in the snow so I'm not worried about the drive.

Were you living in Mass in December '98? I still remember the 19.7" of snow in 36 hours 2 days before Christmas... And the road crews didn't get out to pre-treat because the forecast was 3-5"...

We haven't anything more than a dusting of snow here this season. And I'm ok with that.

Other than a short stint in the early 2000’s in RI I’ve been in MA. Home from college that winter. Luckily my father has an older Bolen’s tractor with blower. She can sure toss snow. Of course I’m out shoveling this sloppy mess. Oddly I’m wearing boots that have a few melted scars from touching the exhaust on that tractor.
Never driven a Subi, but I bet they are great in the snow. I’m tempted by the Bajas, like the modern Brats! Room for the kiddos and a place to toss my ****. Subaru’s really hold there value out here.

The Bajas really hold their value around here and Subbies in general hold their value. The older Foresters, the boxy ones, really do. My daughter's best friend has one. her dad looked for a Baja first, then went with the Forester and it took him almost 3 months to find the right one for the right price. I'm planning to keep my mine for my son when he is 16-1/2. It will be paid off when he is legally allowed to drive too.

We were supposed to get snow this weekend. It didn't happen. Bummed.

Finally signed up on imgbb to host my shed and project pics.
Life’s busy, but I stole a few minutes to work on a He-Man figure made from 80’s GI Joe parts. Here’s the sword I shaped from vinyl fence scraps and a pack to hold them.
