You’re on fire! ;)

We are man!
There is a thread going I just read talking about Zippos. It was mentioned that they have a lifetime warranty and are really good about it.
I think the boy and I will send them a message telling our little story about how we came upon this Zippo. Every 6 year old needs a working Zippo, right?

It’s more of a want than a need. Can’t recall a time I’ve been screwed by my socket options. Maybe I have and I just used a wrench...
Thanks again

I can provide you a 1/4 dr 8MM deep 6 pt socket. PM me your address and I will mail it to you - no charge. Don't have any of the others and not sure some of them were ever made. I've never seen anything smaller than 3/8 in 3/8 drive.

Thanks Jeff, I’ll PM you.
The drawers housed one of those 240? piece craftsman socket sets, so I think the spots must have had a corresponding socket. I’m in agreement though, does one really need all of the “extremes?” I never have, but I may as well hunt for them.
As I type this I’ve decided to just buy a 1/4in deep metric set at some point, so those can wait. Except for those extremes if anyone has them.
Thanks again Jeff

My Kobalt set goes to 1/4" on the 3/8" drive and down to 7mm on deep socket 1/4".

No need to chase down 12pt sockets. They're worthless in my book. Never had a square bolt or nut they would fit on in the real world, always needed a combo wrench to catch just two sides. All they do is round off hex nuts or bolts too.

I bought 2 separate metric 3/8" sets to get all 6pt metric sockets in my big set. They came with the new new Pro90 wrenches so that was a nice upgrade. Chucked the 12pt sockets they replaced.

The only 12pt sockets still in my kit are 1/4" SAE deep sockets, and only because I've never needed one, nor could I find the small kits to replace them.

Boiler, you jumped over before I posted the RC.
Here is the Traxxas Bullet that I bought as a kid. They came out in ‘88 according to google, but I think that is too early for me. Thinking ‘90 ‘91? This was my first and last real RC. I remember assembling this guy on the dining room table with my dad.
The body was trashed and tossed, but I never got around to painting the Vette body. Moved on to real cars. Actually a Scout.
So, it’s not at the top of the project list, but... replace all the electronics with modern? Is that what people do? I see all that modern 4wd RC and just drool.

These were peaking out of a box at the bottom of a near empty dumpster. Actually asked my self if I’d be able to get back out once I was in. Couldn’t see those clamps get trashed and I’m a quick-clamp fan.

Now that I’m on my fill in the random socket spot game I hit up a local pawn shop. Grabbed two 3/8 deeps to fill in some spots, but also grabbed a 3/8 deep 13/16 that is not in my blow molded drawers. Ahhhh, what am I doing?
Planning to head back soon and really dig through the boxes of randoms he had.
Cool Stanley scribe thing that should get plenty of use, too.

Trying not to get too crazy here!
I’m going to keep a list and slowly fill in the holes in the organizer.
I’m not worried about 12 points, but I’ll fill the organizer anyway.
Overall I’m really pleased with how the socket organization is going.

Captain, they were a lucky bonus of the rescue operation. A small travel socket and bit set was too, but that was passed along to a friend for her car.

Wow man! So old school it even has a mechanical speed control! Probably want to boil the Nylon control arms and replace the tires too. Check the shocks for oil... then replace the electronics/batt and let 'er rip.

Boiler, she’s all original. I absolutely need to let’ er rip! Boil the nylon? Like, really, boil the nylon? Will that bring the old plastic back? This is what people do?
Did a more thorough search through my local pawn. I’ll spare you all the pics of a 3/8 drive 6pt 7/8ths socket and a deep 1/4 drive 9/16ths. Don’t know how I’ve made it this far without them!

The 'vette body is awesome - If I may, I would go with '60 Horizon Blue! Just saying...

Really enjoyed your posts...

Ohhhhh, that 1960 Corvette Horizon Blue is nice. Heading towards the softer powder blues with the white panels! You may be on to something Vette60.

Boiler, did some googling, but I need some YouTubing. It’s possible my RC could benefit from a boiling if it actually brings back the flexibility of the part. Interesting...

Jury duty was cancelled. That left the morning open to clean up and get the genny all buttoned up. That didn’t happen. The 71 Raleigh Super Course was calling. Got her completely stripped and did some cleaning. Still more scrubbing to do, but it’s too cold.
This bike will take the place of the Attala project. The plan was to figure out the threading and size to order a bottom bracket to go square drive. Luckily the bottom bracket from the 80’s Ross parts bike threaded right in. Already have all the parts and most are clean.
I’m loving the beat up green look, so she will get a few more baths with evaporust and steel wool. Then just polish that green.

I have a friend who's into those old 70's Raleighs too, he's redone 2 of them in the last few months, He buys parts bikes off of Craigslist just to get a bottom bracket or set of brakes...couple of pics of one he just finished.

Very cool Jagman.
I’m still tossing the Super Course together, but I did pick up this 1978 Motobecane Grand Record. Looks all original, light, nice. Got a bent rear wheel that is not good. Anyone with experience forcing old wheels back into shape?

Here she is outside. Used some brutal methods on the tacod rear wheel. It’s better, but not good!

Nice old lugged frame, I have a 86 Pinarello Montello SLX/SL that I love to ride. I have an older Peugeot PX-10 and assortment of Specialized and a newer Motobecane with 2x10 Ultegra and 7005/CF that is fun bike.

It was my boys 7th bday last week, so he’s been into some new Legos.
This morning he asks if we can modify Minecraft armor, like glue a hook on. Hmmmm? Let’s drill a hole. And I’ve been meaning to make a claw arm. Here’s my chance. To the shed!

Hole drilled, filed to press fit, and the part that sticks through cut off. Shaved and glued in the claw too.

Got the Raleigh Super Course back together. Needs cables and chain. Also had to change up my downtube shifter choices. Thought I could use the nice Shimano I had cleaned up, but the clamp was for a smaller tube and I couldn’t just use the larger mount with the other levers. Anyway, she’s in a holding pattern for parts acquisition.

Boiler, I’m just so used to gears. Not sure how it will feel. Its modern, hip, and flashy, which I’m none of. We will see.
Strout, I’ll keep my eyes out. You never know! And the whole bmx thing. The bikes just look so tiny?

This Gary Fisher Marlin had to get tossed in my truck yesterday. I’m going to have to do a bike count later. It’s bad, really bad.

Have enough fingers or more than that?

Ha, we need our toes. I’ve got 18 rideable. That’s counting kiddo bikes too.
Been really thinking on the fixie. I like the idea of a fixie, but this neon green... What would I wear? I don’t have some reflective silver surfer suit and aerodynamic helmet.
Thinking we may move the fixie parts to the Super Course frame. Then we save the “fixie part,” but keep the vintage factor. Plus, the Motobecane will be the vintage 10 speed road bike.
1. Huffy Tandem
2. Gary Fisher Mtn
3. Fatbike
4. 78 Motobecane street
5. 71 Raleigh fixie
Guess I just need the Haro Master BMX! Missing any other styles I just can’t go on without?
