Nice caninets, Ryan.
I chose shelves and slider doors. Here's a pic of the cabinets 90% assembled.
Here are my 10ft tall cabinets for my classroom.
My ceiling is 122" and the cabinets are 118". If there would have been less than 4" of clearance, they would not have been able to be assembled.
I only have shelves in them, but I have everything to add locking drawers. I can purchase drawers as needed.
My students benches/desks are also Lista Airlink.
Lots of work going on in here. A couple tons of weight is in that cabinet.

I knew they were different, I just wasn't sure if you guys had adapters to make them work with that setup. It is great to know, I will start looking harder at damaged and rusty cabinets now.

Strouty,

The origin for the Lista cabinets was Switzerland where the company was founded about 50 years ago. The US operation began about 40 years ago. The Lista cabinet are metric based with sizing to correspond to US measurements in a lot of places like drawer depth and internal sizes. Vidmar on the other had has it's origins in the US, using the SAE system.

The standard Lista cabinet is 28-1/4" wide while the Vidmar is 30" wide which makes the inside drawer measurements a bit wide on the Vidmar's (25" vs 24"). From a company perspective of Stanley who owns both Vidmar and Lista, I can't imagine any scenario where they would want or need parts interchangeability from one brand to the other. It's really like swapping parts from a Ford to a Chevy. Possible, but a lot of work since they are not direct fits.

While at the Vidmar factory in Allentown, PA two weeks ago they gave me a few Vidmar roller bearings, like what Lista used 7-8 years ago. While similar in overall design, the O.D. was different making them Vidmar specific.

Be cautious of damaged or rusty cabinets. While the price might be nice, they might be very worn out. Sort of like an old junky car. The work and cost to restore may be over the top. Check the bearings very carefully. While I have a few, they are not generally available any more.

A lot of Ryan's shop used our Junkyard Specials which are brand new Lista cabinets we sell at half price. Many are perfect, others have some freight damage. He also bought some new parts like the red and green drawers.

Regards,
Joe

Excellent stuff Ryan, Lista is top notch stuff. For those in the market also don't be shy to check out Rousseau Metal, I chose them for my build - same configurations, options, quality as Lista (in my opinion) and was available locally to me (Vancouver, Canada, made in Canada as well!). The Rousseau catalog is one to thumb though if you get a chance. We use Rousseau at work and I've outfitted two manufacturing plants with the stuff so was familiar with the product - it definitely lasts.

I'm not sure on pricing, but probably comparable. On pricing I have to say, I think both are reasonable (Lista or Rousseau) for a totally custom solution - compare to your Snap-On or Mac and it's not out much.

Lastly, I think once I built my shop, I ended up wanting to have my tools more accessible too, not all hidden so I use tool boards, magnets, bins and hooks for the high use stuff and only put my rarely used stuff in the drawers. In fact, I am thinking of transferring my bolts from the drawers to a bolt bin recently.

The shop is on around 10 acres west of town near Dripping Springs. The property is not zoned at all, requires only a septic permit, belongs to no HOA, and is just about perfect for me.

Ryan,

I've been curious if you have filled the spot you carved out for the mid-rise lift... If yes, could you give us an update and a review?

Thanks!

Man this has been fun to read through. Nice to see I'm not alone in overthinking minute details. Never over done!

Anyways, congratulations on your shop! The hard work and thought has really paid off! It just has that feel to it! Can you comment on how the clear epoxy has held up to your and Keith's abuse so far?

Just finished reading this whole thread, absolutely perfect shop! Only question I have is have you found the new floors to be slippery like in your other shop? I love how they look, plan on doing the same in mine just unsure if adding any anti-slip material is a good idea.

Ryan the shop is looking good. The best looking part (to me) are those hardware bins haha. I just spent half a day trying to organize hardware bins and it was nearly an exercise in futility!

I think I just need to luck out at an estate sale of someones massive hardware collection that they already organized.

What is the next step?

I was wondering how your floor is holding up and how slippery it is when it is wet? Looking to do something similar with my shop floor, but definitely not something that will make it slippery.

Hopefully Ryan doesn't mind me answering the question as I used the SEC sealer.. It was initially very slick--with the traffic in the shop--it's seemingly lost some of it's slippery contact-gladly. Operating a full sized man lift hasn't scuffed the surface at all.. But it feels less slippery even with damp footwear.
