Been a little bit since I last posted.

I put this Delta fence system on my old Craftsman table saw and loved it but I noticed when I was fitting some of the siding up for the walls that I needed to make an extension wing. So I did...it turned out pretty good.



Then my sister in law said she wanted a tool carrier for her birthday instead of keeping her tools in a shoebox. This might be rather large but it’s definitely a lot nicer than a shoebox. Added a beer bottle opener for a personal touch. Will be painting it before I gift it to her.

Got the tool carrier finished. I dyed the wood purple so that the wood grain is still somewhat there. I think she’s going to love it.

I’m going to build a tablesaw outfeed table this week but unsure of what size it should be. Either 4’x8’ or 4’x6’. I feel that 4’x8’ is rather large but would be nice to have for building things on. Will post pictures when I start.

Started the outfeed table. This will work as an assembly table and also as storage for some tools on the bottom.

The table has one leg that’s a little high. Need to figure out a safe and precise way to cut that down. Any help would be appreciated.

It worked out nicely with the 1.5” stock push stick on the rip fence. Made a quick and easy support.

Got it finished today. Put the wheels on and then shimmed one leg so that it doesn’t rock and it’s level.

Built a stool for my garage today so I can sit while I fiddle with things. You’ll notice that I had to disassemble and flip the seat over, then reassemble so that the “pretty” side of the seat is facing up.

Just read the last page of your thread to catch up. There is more than one idea to steal I think. Have you thought about adding an electric outlet box with an entension cord so you can power the tools stored underneath?

Are you going to add any finish to the stool?

I have thought about adding power to the outfeed table. Don’t know if I will at the moment.

The stool will stay like it is for now.

I think the next step is cabinets and storage for paints and lubricants as well as other power tools (pressure washer, shop vac, welding machine).

I am going to start building some wooden storage cabinets soon. I'm aiming to hopefully get a lot of the larger stuff in them and maybe a dedicated on to my yard tools and gas powered tools.

If y'all have any ideas on how to build some, PLEASE let me know.

Got the cabinets started. Not sure if I want to do sliding doors or hinged doors. I’m going to use them without doors and see what works best.

Also got the tablesaw enclosed as best as I could. Appears to be working really well. Just need to hook a vacuum up to it.

Got the shelves installed and loaded up. Had to order the sliding door track and it won’t be here until Wednesday so maybe I’ll start the doors on Thursday.

Yes sir, it does. This one is mainly for supplies. I’ll soon be building a closet cabinet in the opposite corner to store my welding machine, pressure washer, car ramps, and vacuums. I have a lot of my tools on an old repurposed bookshelf. It’s nice having them out in the open for use but it would look more organized if they were covered.

The cabinets look good in the corner. I have some questions about the construction.
The framework is 2x2 fastened to the wall and 3/4 plywood for the sides, partitions and shelves?

Underneath the cabinet in the corner I see wood scraps. Are you elevating that so it’s doesnt attract ground moisture or was it just during the construction phase?

How big will the closet be on the other side for the vacuums?

And first picture in post #57 next to the security team member shows a full length window or door next to the garage door or is it an illusion?

Thank you Captain. Yes sir, 2x2 frame with 3/4” plywood construction. It’s pretty strong! I’m 200# and I could sit on the shelves but didn’t feel any flex in the cabinet. Here’s a link to the plan that I used(modified for size):

That wood is contacting the ground. It is something I need to address. I’m not sure if I want a rolling lumber cart as I don’t have a huge garage and need one. So my idea is to build a fixed wall mounted lumber rack. This is the plan I’m going to use:

The closet I’m thinking will be 96” tall, 48” wide, and 32” deep with maybe 3 shelves which would include the base.

That is the security manager, Pepper, and she is laying in the garage door area but next to a man door. It isn’t a mirage. Haha. I’ll post a picture of the front of the garage below.

Yeah we will see what happens. That worktable is also my outfeed table which has wheels on it so I can move it. In case I ever want to park a car in there. I’ll need to put wheels on my tablesaw so that I can move it too though.

Got the hose and connectors in for hooking up the shop vac to my tablesaw. It works well so far. I’ll probably still have sawdust on top of the table saw but at least it will keep the majority of it from flying all over the shop.

Very nice. The dust above the tablesaw is one of the hardest ones to capture. There are several how to make above dust guards on youtube and many aftermarket ones you can buy. The sharkguard seems to be one of the highest rated. I have yet to make one for mine yet.

I saw the sharkguard and it does look very nice. I think the sawdust on top may be something I can live with for now. I’m going to build. Cart for the shop vac so that I can move to the drill press and other tools when needed. One of the more aggravating things is finding and buying connections that fit handtools like the jigsaw or orbital sander. Is there a place that sells a variety of different sizes? The shop vac is a 2.5” connection.

Couple of things.

Do you plan to upgrade to a full dust collection in the future? If so I recommend using plumbing parts from Lowe or Home Depot. You can make most fitting work with a little bit of tape.

This drawer is full of all the different plumbing parts I used. Just take one of your vacuum ends to the store with you and see what fits.

If you don't plan on a bigger dust collection. Rockler sells a lot of adapters for 2.5" they are just expensive. And if you are going to spend the money might as well upgrade to a 4" or bigger system.

I used a 2.5" system for several years before upgrading to a real dc. It worked just fine on most tools except for the jointer and planer. They produce such large chips the vacuum can't keep it suspended an moving fast enough.

Here is the DC box I made to hook up several tools to my Thien baffle and vacuum. Worked great.

You can see my vac behind it and the barrel to the left. I made it using plans from Shopnotes magazine.

I have pondered getting the Harbor Freight dust collector but I don't have the need for it yet. I want to get a jointer and planer in the future but I don't have either yet. I do agree that the shop vac has issues with picking up the larger chips.

I like the idea of using plumbing parts, I just wasn't sure if they made reducers in a wide variety like that. I like Rockler but don't see myself investing a bunch of money into plastic couplings to fit my power tools. I also don't want a 2' piece of pipe hanging off of my jigsaw while I'm using it either though. Haha.

I appreciate your input. You have a lot talent and experience with this stuff. I'm going to be going to Home Depot today to get some stuff for wiring up my welding machine. I'll stop by the plumbing aisle and get some stuff for the jigsaw to try out. Thanks Bret.

My dust collection is very similar to Bret’s. I used 2 1/2” plumbing and ran it along the ceiling. My garage has a low ceiling and I felt running 4” or 6” pipe would be too big in my small area. The 2 1/2” may be able to run behind your plywood walls. It would be slick, but be awful if one gets plugged.

Your garage is looking good and you seem to be moving fast. How many cabinets are you planning?

It would help to have a more gentle bend (preferably a Sweep fitting) on the bottom of the TS. Minimizing the amount of flex hose will also help on efficiency.
