Well that would be some time ago now as the Chev stayed in the USA a few years ago now. Oh it is a 55 and not a 57.

Here is a link to it on You Tube in the US now >

Rod has built a new toy since that with a similar engine >

I have to say the Merlin Engined 55 is what made me say if Rod can do that I can fit a Cummins into a 1948 Ford

(edit FMD, another blooper, just seen a comment below referring to Blastolene)

That is why I no longer subscribe to US magazines. I have just finished reading the next July Issue. I have no idea why when we as Aussies subscribe to magazines from the US they are slower to arrive than those that appear in the shops.

On another issue it appears size and weight stop me from entering many shows with the F4.

thats just daft, year of manufacture should qualify it - its not as if you're driving a magiruz deutz troop carrier...

Royal Exbibition Building Melbourne - Heritage listed by the National Trust. Timber floor. Underneath is storage for the Melbourne Museum. Sadly a fork lift went through the floor a couple of years ago and the weight limitation came about and put in place by the National Trust. Now how does this affect me and the F4 you ask ? :headscrat Well by not getting into the Melbourne Hot Rod Show I am not seen by Maquires etc. and then not invited to interstate shows.

you'd think that the issue would be distributed weight.

maybe they should be looking at ground pressure/distributed weight - after all a fork lift is a concentrated mass, small footprint.

whats the weighbridge say?

It is not what the weighbridge says it is now the ruling that heavy vehicles like Fork Lifts can not be on the timber floor. This has been set by the National Trust and Heritage Victoria due to the history of the building. :( So for me I just say they have set a rule and my vehicle is too heavy.

Many other events I can attend and also ideas for new vehicles :)
Main thing for me with the F4 (Beast) is to simply enjoy it at any event I can get it to. :)

Simon, this may be a silly question, but i will ask anyway, what kind of milage does hotfr8 click going down the highway while driving on the wrong side of the road ? what trans ?

Is Dongfeng some kind of joint venture with cummins ? Lastly, what are you building these days ?
sorry for all the questions.

There is no such thing as a silly question only silly answers :lol_hitti

I think I posted that here some time ago. If I recall I am using about 13 or 14 litres of Diesel per 100k's and 3 litres LPG per 100k's and I think I did do a translation to MPG's back when I posted that. I can tell you I am extremely happy with the figures. Does not matter the side of the road I use as the fuel economy is still the same :lol_hitti Gearbox is a C6 with a full manual shift kit and US gear overdrive and that has all been posted before.:bounce:

Dong Feng is Chinese for East Wind and the East Wind motor Company build Cummins Engines under licence for Cummins. You can not pick them appart from a US built or UK built Cummins except for the Chinese lettering on the Engine block ID tag. Yes I know it is Chinese but Cummins Qualitiy is still the same. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongfeng_Motor The link will tell you much more.

At present the F4 is still stored in the work shop so nothing on the go at present but if I can find a 4BT I would build something like one of these.

The second one (extended A Cab ) has just had a write up on the HAMB forum as it was driven to Bonneville recently.

4BT's are like Hens teeth here and I do not want to use the newer Electronic engine because of the price and the fact I prefer the old 4BT as it is not complex.

I love the cummins rat rod in the first video, sounds exactly like my rig.

Do you want me to hunt down a 4bt for you, we can get it shipped easy enough. The 4bt was a common engine in the bread and chip delivery trucks, they can still be sourced. If so, let me know. I agree, no electronics and a p pump = bulletproof.

is the c6 stock or did you beef it up due to the torque ?

Getting ready to order a pac brake exhaust brake for the desert tank, kinda excited about it.

I do not like the term Rat Rod. Both vehicles just have that CUMMINS note.

If I end up doing that I will be looking for two or three as I want to have a good engine and the 4TB is not so easy to find here. If it comes to that I will be on a plane to the US myself with my own Cummins connections. I prefer to wait and see what I can find here first. Also I need workshop room :(

Full Manual Shift kit and the gearbox was built from the ground up by a mate here with the Torque convertor to suit etc. Fully beefed out. :)

 Sounds like fun. I was thinking that route with the F4 but to date I still have not towed the enclosed car trailer that is fully electricaly braked.

The name of the video is cummins rat rod, now you are starting to sound like the guys on the hamb.

Exhaust brake hotfr8 and you will rarely ever need to touch your brakes.

Yes I know it is but to me it is a Traditional Hot Rod in the true sense of the term. Diesel is just not the normal thing as to what most os us expect in a Traditional Hot Rod. If I sound like a HAMBer then it is because I am. :) A few on the HAMB can think outside the norm even if it is not the accepted thing with many others on the HAMB. I can count a few HAMBers playing with Diesels and Cummins 6BT's & 4BT's are the engine of choice. :) 6BT's in bigger Ford trucks like mine and a Jailbar etc. and the 4BT's in the A's etc.

Still thinking about it. The enclosed car trailer will pull up the tow vehicle at present without touching the brakes. As I stated earlier I have not towed the enclosed car trailer with the F4 but it will pull up the C1300 International easily and that is a heavier truck.:)

Biscuit Tin, thats random. How about on a vegamite jar ?

Coming to a store near you, hotfr8 kitchen products and vintage restoration tips. Our new biscuit's have a nice butter and cinnamon taste with a slight hint of diesel

Please stay tuned to our website for new products coming in the near future from hotfr8 industries, like our new line of european mens swim wear and lots of products made with Bacon.

We here at hotfr8 industries have a passion for all things old and rusty, fashion and the culinary arts. Thanks for supporting us.

Very cool simon, congrats.

These Tins are collectors items here. Any Rodders that collect anything collect these tins due to the limited production run. Some times to get one tin you have to get six from the supplier. I think the run is 500 and after that you can not get the same tin again.

sounds just like a cummins should.
The rig at about 2.29. one hell of a turbo whistle threw the exhaust:thumbup:
Lastly, those big bull bars on the front of some of those rigs are huge, are those for when the roo's jump in front of the land train while barreling down the road in the outback.

Besides driving on the wrong side of the road that was cool. Your truck fits right in there. I was surprised to see so many Peterbilts and KW over there. I just looked at a 300 series Peterbilt yesterday for a business venture I am hoping to start.

:) Not sure what it is with that truck as I do not know what he did with the Engine. I think you are talking about the truck with the Indian on the door. most trcuks here do run with the Bull Bars mostly to protect from Roos and cattle etc and thet even goes for those rigs mostly on the Highways and not just the road trains.

Kenworth, Peterbuilts and Macks are all popular here as well as Volvo, Scania and many of the others even the old Louisville now Sterlings.

That there is a big turbo and an open exhaust. A very nice sound if i do not say so myself. Certain vehicles have a very specific sound that i love, and that is one of them.

All the land train vehicles i see have those giant bull bars { as we call them in the west of the U.S } that are huge. As well i notice all those trucks have Light force lights on them, there are some guys that run the light force lights in the desert racing world here in the U.S, but they are very expensive here. They are bright HID'S as i have sen them in person. Do you have any experience with the lightforce lights ?

Anyway, the truck looks good Simon. What do we have in the shop these days ?

Truck with the Indian head painted on the door ???

I do not know anything about those lights but I do know they are good and on the road trains they would save you hitting Kangaroos, Emu's, Cattle or even the odd wild Camel in places like the Nullabor (Perth to Adelaide) and the roads to Darwin, Adelaide and Broken Hill etc.

Still have the F4 in the workshop until I find or build a new Garage for it. I have ideas for another 4BT (Hens teeth here) powered project but not rushing that as I have an enclosed car trailer that needs work and a coat of paint as well as a few other smaller projects. Need to get the enclosed car trailer cleaned up so I can use it with the F4 or the International. The International still needs a few jobs to finish but I am waiting for warmer weather so I can do those jobs.

I've had Lightforce 170's and 240's on my 4wd's. Both had HID conversions.

spectacular beam but I ended up putting light blue filters on them as they were highly reflective when hitting billboard sized road signs.

the 240's were giving me close to 2km reflected light.

The thrown military technology of the USSR.

The only post you have made on this forum apart from under your own topic about your own garage and you post links that have a virus warning ? What is the relevance to my topic and the links you posted ? I deleted the links becasue they look suspect to me.

kind of struggling to see what this has got to do with F4

It has NOTHING to do with my F4 and in fact I have reported the post as SPAM as my computer gave me a virus warning on both links. Looks like some one slipped through the cracks and is posting things we do not like.:( I am also wary of his one friend with one post.
Still will see what Admin or the Mods do as his logon may have been hacked. Benefit of the doubt.
