kind of struggling to see what this has got to do with F4

You may like to edit your post and take out those links in the quote considering the original post has been removed as SPAM and to save others finding out the links are not safe. Most would not know what you and I got to see last night and it makes me wonder about that member on the forum and why he has only posted in one topic until last night. I also suspect his one friend having only made one post yet he is a regular visitor to the forum. As I said earlier I do give the benifit of the doubt but Ryan as Admin must have to deal with so much rubbish.

SIMON, what's been happening in the shop ? we need pics of your current projects.

I have no room to do anything in my works any more and at present I am awaiting planning approval to extend. Everything is on hold until I get a yes :dunno: or no :dunno: from council.

Also awaiting to see what happens with Council elections as I believe most will go out at the next elections all over an Aquatic Centre and how so many rate payers do not want it. Best stop at that because the subject gets politcal.

With the extensions in go slow mode at present and as a few have asked what the next project will be I have revived this topic.

I shut shop today and visited a Laser Cutter in Ballarat an hours drive from Castlemaine. I had to see about getting some work done as they are going to cut the Aus-E-Brakes for me now if all works out (you can see them on my website ot there is a photo in the Sheddwellers topic). From there I went on to Laverton to visit Cummins and hours drive from Ballarat. Cummins have been a great supporter of the F4 project and have once again looked after me.

Whilst at Cummins I again advised them I was looking for a smaller 4BT or 4BTA engine for the next project that has been nicknamed DoomsDay only because I want it to be non electronic and no computers. Sadly as I expected these little 4 Cylinder Engines are not so easy to find in Australia and yet Cummins do have an Electronic version available here but simply not what I want. So no progress on a new project as yet.

I also visited the local Supplier for Evans Waterless Coolants so some progress in another area before I headed for another hours drive home to Castlemaine.

OK, I haven't been here in awhile and the biscuit tin is blowing my mind! "They" would never be that creative in North America. You also have a LOT going on!

I can add I have to adjust the Prodigy electric brake controller fitted to the truck.
l.jpg

That way I can tow this with the truck.

I did a trial tow on the weekend with the trailer empty and it looks awsome but I need to adjust the Prodigy brake controls.

I am back into this project again. Looks like it is never completed. This time I am having problems with the Air Con again. Has been gassed twice since it has been put on the road and looks like it has lost all its gas once again. Now I have to work out why this is so. Not sure what it will involve as last time we found missing O rings in the system so have no idea what to look for this time. As the Air Con system is a specialised field requiring some one qualified in that area I do not know what we will find. Mind you when it is working the system pretty well blows ice out the vents.

I still have to sort out the electrical brake controller and have been waiting for a nice day to set that up again.

I assume that you've tried tracing all the interconnects to see if they're bleeding gas or air somewhere?

you don't have a dodgey cooler? (compromised fins etc....)

I was told the gas has a (green!) dye in it so you can trace with a black light. Tried that and nothing. Cooler was new at the time and the cooler is big, like they use in harvesters etc. Could be a split in a hose or still missing an O ring. Actually the cooler looks like new still and as it is under the chassis at the back it is well protected. The other problem I have is it has been so wet here until recently I have no had the vehicle out so nothing shows on the floor for leaks either.

I doubt I need any fans. It has 4 all up. 1 Radiator, 1 Transmission and 2 on the Air Con. Mind you they are the best brand and the same can be said about the electric water pumps.

 That's the truth. I am sure it will be something simple but to find it .

what brand fans?

one of the things I like about the davies craig is that the fans I have are japanese (and made in japan, not license built in china)

Pressurize the system and spray soapy water at all the joints and on the compressor. Look for bubbles, once you see a small stream of bubbles you've found where your system is leaking from. Dye works but you have to wear the correct glasses and have a bright UV light and trace the entire system.

I would have to check. I think the radiator ones are Davies Craig. Transmission I think is Derale and the Air Con could be anything Agricultural.

Thanks Josh. Have done all that. Just off the Phone and the Air Con guy wants to drain the system and fill it with Nitrogen. Leave it pressurized over night and see what we find.

Simon, does the foldaway step fold up underneath? Given all the suggestions in Dons thread re: the sleeper, is yours set up as a sleeper or a passenger compartment with seats?

Yes Rob the step folds up underneath the sleeper. Luckily I found many more photos in the last few days that I can share an update. Hard to believe the F4 has been on the road now for four years.

View media item 35253Looking in from the sleeper door you can see the lap seat belts. Factory Peterbilt and all I did was fit new lap seat belts.

View media item 35254This is looking in from the front cab so you can see the centre cushions can be removed to use the back seat or have it as a sleeper.

The F4 has been on the road over four years now and I still can not get the Air Con to work as it should. It has been gassed twice now at least. Found a leak this time under the dash so I have started to pull it apart to fix the problem. Just when the weather is getting warm here and I need it.

To add to this a new magazine has just asked to do a feature and I have had to turn them down whilst the truck is torn apart to find the Air Con leak. www.australiancustomtrucks.com.au

I have all the under dash space open now and the Air Con system has again been pumped full of nitrogen. Leak confirmed with a hose under the dash on the low pressure side of the system. Fairly obvious on inspection that the hose is not crimped correctly so it will have to come out and be fixed or replaced.

:soapbox::( I have just about had a :tantrum2: as the workshop that put in the Air Con system made a few (err many) mistakes that have taken nearly four years to find and resolve. Missing O Rings in the past and now this badly made hose. The same workshop also did the LPG system and left me with many bugs to sort out with that and then would not sign off on it for registration and left me in a spot back then. :argue: and I have no reason to argue about it now as I now it would be a waste of time. That workshop will never get any work from me again and he has shot his reputation with many as well.

Hopefully once this is fixed we should be right. ;) :rocker:

A truck you can drive to the strip, stage, burn the tread, bust a few quarter mile records, take a nap, watch your footage, eat lunch, run again, then show it off. Great looking truck

Thanks, I just need to sort out the Air Con and I could do most of that and will be even more fun when I get the car trailer sorted out to tow behind it.

Have been cursing the Air Con installer. Found the poorly crimped hose and hopefully now it is right to go back. Sure explains the odd oil stains on the floor as it must have run down the hose inside the cab then out with the wiring through a rubber grommet to drip onto the floor. Yet to nitrogen test it again for the 3rd time so hopefully fixed.:sad:  Four years to resolve this issue.

Rob, Found a photo so you can see it folded away.

 Back working on the Air Con today. Tested with nitrogen and failed again. Yes another hose has not been crimped correctly this time one at the back under the chassis. I hope we can fix it on the vehicle other wise it becomes a bigger job.

Poor quality workmanship by a supposed qualified installer. Also annoyed the last place that gassed the system twice did not check for the faults.

I have to get annoyed here as it is one of those things I can not do myself as you have to have a qualification to fit and work on vehicle Air Con systems here.

Well done, sounds like some pretty poor workmanship.

You will need it this week for sure. I just had a peak at the weather for the weekend, the B.O.M. are predicting a little cooler with rain and thunder storms.

Poor workmanship.........:rolleyes2 I bet he never even tested his hose fittings when he made them up. I have heard he has done the same to other trucks and farm machinery and I can just imagine a ticked off farmer going through what I have wanting to Harvest in this heat.

Took two of us to put all the under dash back together and I have just finished some of the other jobs. Back on the road again after a grease and a few other checks ready for the Summer events.
