Finished cleaning the T Roadster and its trailer so back to the XP and to test the new radiator hoses and check the fittings. All looking pretty good now.
Tomorrow I will get back onto the F4 and get all the LPG equipment removed and ready for the Auto Electrician later in the week.

I am also going to remove the strait gas system from my BBC C10 pick -up going back to petrol . done with LPG ,

Hearing a few doing just that as the quality of the LPG is
 :headshake .
Well nothing good to write here about it. Mind you mine is not a straight gas as it is Diesel / LPG or what most call fumigation. My International is petrol LPG and that runs better on petrol now than LPG.

Brian, I see you joined in 2009. Why has it taken you so long to post ? Where are you ? I would like to know so I get an idea on the quality of the LPG. Out of state from me I hear is better.

Hey Simon, I just caught up on your updates to this thread - sorry to hear about your LPG problems.
I've procrastinated for years about fitting LPG - because I reckoned that as soon as I fitted it to something, the government would start taxing it like they do with other fuel  (the main factor that made LPG so cheap was the much smaller amount of taxation on it).
It's a shame to hear that the quality has dropped to such an extent.

I've read a couple of articles recently about the Davies Craig EWP (electric water pump) - it seems to be getting good reviews.
I like the new top hose on the Falcon too.

After removing the rubber hose I worked out what I needed to do to stop air in the top hose and made it up as follows and with a little more hose and a twist it now sits lower than the top tank on the radiator.

First, what is the Jim Beam catch can for ?

Second, what was originally in that can ? Whatever it was we have nothing like that around where I live !

Third, it is too bad that your supplier does not sell a 90° elbow. It would make you life a lot easier.

The LPG Industry is no longer as active as it was when the rebate was in place so that is part of the down fall with what I have done and for many others. As for the quality of the fuel well I do not understand why we do not have more complaints. I have heard so many over the last few weeks.

The Davies Craig Pumps are very popular and to date the one fitted to the Falcon has done the job very well as a boost pump for the mechanical pump.

OK,

1. It is not a catch can it is a cover over the coil. Simply hidden under the hose as you see it.

2, Can contained Jim Beam and Cola. Do you not have Jim Beam in cans in the USA ?

3, The top hose is a new product. It is on the car to test it. The fitting in the middle I make and sell as a drain fitting only this one I fitted the small elbow to take the heater hose from the Electric pump. I did have rubber hoses fitted to the top hose but kept getting an air lock in them.

Edited note: Jim Beam Can.

LPG tank and lines are off. All fittings and sensors have been removed. Brass bungs have replaced the sensors and a bolt we cut short has replaced the inlet of the LPG into the air cleaner fitting and none of it look out of place. All that has to happen now is to remove the wiring and the ECU etc.

The small electric water pump (EWP) has been fitted in place of the LPG converter and it looks good. It will be wired up when my Auto Electrician does his work later this week and most likely we will use the switch that isolated the LPG to activate the EWP.

The LPG tank that has come off the F4 as I mentioned before will now most likely be fitted to the International so it will have a longer range of travel and most of the hoses will be reused.

Interesting (and unfortunate) your dramas with the lpg setup. I run the 351 clevo in my f250 on straight lpg, and highly recommend it, I've found it great for both cost and performance... However I have had poor running and economy at times on a particular tank of lpg, but 99% of the time it's been from a 7-11 or other cut price supplier (and I've had similar issues with petrol). Haven't had any dramas with lpg quality from the local BP or Caltex, so I always fill up at one or the other. I personally am a big fan of lpg, hope we don't start having the issues here that you are reporting with **** fuel there.

Slowly advancing. The LPG ID tag has come off the firewall easily.
I also had to remove the LPG stickers off the number plates.
mNPQ0waPlv7fX7v7sklQUvA.jpg

These are meant to be riveted on as you can see by the image above.
I looked at mine and found they had been glued on :headscrat. Problem with that is not legal and when they came off they destroyed the number plates or defaced the plates enough not to be legal anymore so I have had to order a new set of Custom plates > HOTFR-8.

Still thinking about a small water tank to go back in the same location as the LPG tank. Not sure how I will do that yet.

Actually I have heard the quality of LPG in NSW is better than here in VIC.
I agree with you 100% about location of the places you purchase LPG. I would never buy petrol, Diesel or LPG from a place with a small turn over. Always buy from AMPOL, CALTEX, BP and SHELL with a good turn over.

Mind you I am set up to run blended Bio Diesel but have not found any local outlets to buy from.

The LPG ECU is out and a few other items as well. Also found the probe for the Air Con Sensor hidden behind the LPG ECU  so another reason why the Air Con has not worked as it should. Still removing much of the wiring loom.

One Shop has let me down with many of these things .
Any way closer to being able to say this is behind me and I move forward again.

First, Jim Beam is not nearly as popular in the US as it is in Oz. Second, you have to buy your J.B. in a bottle and mix it with your favorite cola (there are some real "die hard" cola brand people here !)

I think Jack Daniels (a Tennessee Whiskey and not a bourbon) is more popular.

I can understand that. ;)

We nearly have all the wiring out now so you would never know it had LPG.
New EWP fitted into the wiring loom and saved a lot of work.

Good to hear you got it sorted.

Well almost, just a couple of things to tidy up. Shut the door after all that today and took the T Roadster out to an event. Was good to have some fresh air in the face after a busy day. Left the T on show and will go back for it tomorrow.

Once I mount the EWP in the F4 and get a new set of number plates I have too front up at Vic Roads again to show it no longer has LPG now that is going to be fun as they lost it when I changed the engine some time back as they did not know about Diesel LPG. Any way all should be good now. I will be looking for Bio Diesel again now for the F4 and I have old LPG tank off the F4 now to mount up on the International Truck. Ongoing projects. ;)

Having fitted Cool-Flex hoses to the F4 I had hoped the EWP I had would have fitted up easily. With covers over the rubber fittings I found the hoses wanted to come off all the time and that is not a good thing as the covers do not allow the clamps to push firmly onto the pump fittings and mount on the pump the right way.

View media item 44804
To get round this I have made up some short fittings using brass adapters so the Cool-Flex hose clamps to them and then the short length of rubber hose then clamps to the Electric Boost water pump.

View media item 44801View media item 44802This will allow for some movement of the hoses near the pump when mounted.

One of the other things of interest here is the fact Cool-Flex has ceased production and as yet I have nothing to work with in heater hose size as per the earlier photos I posted with new type of hose I have trial fitted to my Falcon. So the photos above are the solution that will resolve this and with the LPG converter out the EWP will not fit in place.

I just happened to have one of those brass adapters here and had to buy another. Must have doubled in price since I got the first one. Pump is on and mounted up so now I await a new set of number plates and then I can visit Vic Roads and have some fun with them again over the Diesel LPG after now removing the LPG.

No great way of mounting that small pump unlike the one I have installed in the XP Falcon. At present this one I have cable tied the rubber hose to the original mount for the LPG converter and that looks like it will work well.

Still trying to work out how to put a water tank under it and I may look to see what is on show at the Castlemaine Truck Show in a weeks time.

Called into Vic Roads yesterday and that was late on Friday. A very busy place. So busy the lady that served me did not even want to inspect the vehicle to see the changes and was happy to take my word for it so she could deal with the next customer.

I had time to kill so had a cruise round Bendigo as I was in the city for another event at the same time. A show & shine for many before the big Bendigo Swap Meet.
Without the LPG tank many look very confused by the engine.
View media item 44896As you can see it was a big night and many vehicles and people in attendance.
Due to the ground clearance of the F4 I was parked over a nasty gravel hump to save some of the lowered cars from finding the hump and bottoming out on it.

Well done with VIC ROADS, sounds like it couldn't have been easier. I think there is a clear message all there, go there when its busy!

Works for many things except when you have an appointment and I did not need an appointment for this situation.

Will you be going to the Swap??
To much to do at home. I had an open shop day last year that went over well.
I have not been to the Bendigo Swap for some years. Has been to dusty in the past.

I am heading to the Castlemaine Truck show this weekend. I've been busy polishing wheels and cleaning it after the outing last Friday to Vic Roads and the night event in Bendigo.

Hopefully I will post photos in a new topic on that event after the weekend.

Having cleaned the F4 I was reminded about the upcoming feature in the magazine and then told of the weather forecast for the day. I got the F4 away just as it started to rain and then it blew dust all day.

I took the International to the show instead and ran into the Editor of Australian Custom Trucks Magazine who was happy to hear the F4 is clean and ready for a feature photo shoot. Sounds like it may happen this week. I will be back at the truck show tomorrow.

Hi

I can't see some of the pictures on the older posts. My question is how well did that 6bt fit? I have a 52 I want to put a Cummins in but was thinking 4bt. If a 6bt fits well, then bigger is better.

Sorry but the older photos got hosted on anther site that changed the settings. Depending on the chassis you use a 6BT will fit but the 6 is much heavier than the 4. If you are lucky to find a Darlington built 4BT then go for it. It would fit very well. Darlington built 4BT engines are not easy to find here in this country and I want one for my next project .

Back in post 474 I showed what I was doing with my XP Falcon and the top radiator hose.
View media item 44398The hose section on the right I found with the Electric Water pump fitting was to heavy and with to much weight on it moved more than I liked.
So I decided to remove it and look at other options and in the past I have made right angle outlets on radiators like I did when I built the radiator for the F4. I could not do that with the XP so this little fitting I made in Stainless steel as an adapter.
View media item 45528That allowed me to make it all up to look like this.
View media item 45529View media item 45530I still have a short section of the Copper-Flex hose fitted at the thermostat and have taken much of the movement out of the top hose by adding the little elbow. I need to test it all again and then tidy up the clamps.

I am waiting on sample heater rubbers to arrive so I can add a section of Copper-Flex heater hose into the system as well.

I think that you could improve the appearance of that plumbers nightmare by making the whole run out of SST pipe and by making your 90*s with 221/2* segments. Just saying.

Nice bit of welding on the stainless, let us know how it all works out.

I have to admit I got the local exhaust shop to make that up for me as my welding skills are not that good.

Problem being there is the different size fittings required with the components used. Once I have some heat in the engine and it is all tested I will tidy up the clamps so they look better. The fitting for the Electric water pump is a different size (1 3/4) to the elbow (1 1/2) I have just added.
