If you have a laptop you normally use, a simple docking station with a wireless keyboard with trackpad would would probably be ideal.

I do have an old laptop laying around collecting dust. I honestly havent really needed a computer though. Someday maybe.

Frogtown? Very cool pics!

I'm going to be tackling a bit of demo in my garage for an HVAC R&R and I'm checking in on your thread for some inspiration,

Yeah, Frogtown.

I finally got around to washing the M3 last night. I have been giving it ONR baths in the garage for months but there is nothing like a legit wash. It needed it apparently.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It was kinda cool to see the wax and beadmaker doing its job and helping the water trap and wash away the dirt/pollen. But this was more than a wash, it was the last straw. After getting home a little late, walking the dog, and making dinner, I started to lose light and had to finish the wash in the dark. I need to get on the wash bay project. Time to start gathering quotes. This is the best I could do with the lighting I have.

Need to ad lighting off of the deck. I have a pair of 500W halogens that are very outdated, but light up my drive like a football stadium

I need to play around with that. I think it would work some what but would only light up one side of the vehicle.

Im not sure how the left side of the vehicle would be lit. I might tape a bright flash light up on a few spots of the deck and see how it looks.

I got very little work done this weekend. I did take my wife out for ice cream in the 02 on Saturday, the cup order I slapped together worked great at holding a milk shake.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also changed out the engine mounts and looked over the m3 for a trip this coming weekend with friends to Deals Gap.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I planned on documenting the engine mount install a little better but with the lift it took like 40 minutes. I love this lift.

That cupholder is pretty sweet! But not as sweet as that lift. I need one in the future. Installing my axle-back on the M3 would be much easier with one...sigh. [emoji58]

Woohoo! more e9 details! '70?

So hope you know what your getting into with the E9....Those thing rust sitting in garages. Care to share any details?

It's a 71. Starts and runs great, reverse and first work great, I'll drive it a little more on Sunday. Its clean as far as I have found rust wise, the spare tire well has a rust hole, but the rockers, doors, etc etc are clean. It has some light front end damage and some dings and dents but I'll address that after getting it reliable and drive it a little.

Here is two great sources of for these, Sports Car Restoration in Plainville CT and Sports and Vintage restoration in Bow NH. Both are fluid in slew of early BMW's and SCR also does Alfa and Porsche.

I just sent this to SCR as they do numerous 02's and Roundies in New England are all but non existent and this one is cheap.

Going to modernize the M30? It's pre smog days so no pathetic systems on it so that and early bumpers is a GIANT plus.

I let out an audible "Oh no" when I read you were selling the Wagoneer, but 2 seconds later all was right in the world.

Would love to get my hands on the XJ if I had the funds/space for it.

Did you post that last pic somewhere on Facebook? Looks like deja vu, either that I saw it last night or this morning?

Yea, facebook and insta. I will miss the XJ wag, but I really enjoy the fullsize wagoneer much more. The Chief may go up for sale too, but we haven't decided that yet. :shocking:

Glad your E36 wasn't there, or at least in the picture. Parental advisory would have been needed :lol_hitti

Went to work on the 02 a little last night, and I couldn't help but snap a pic of the gang all together.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The 02 is almost ready for The Vintage. Topped up the trans fluid, checked the diff, wheel bearings feel ok, and just did a general inspection. I have alternator mount bushings on the way, but it should be ready after that.

After that I took the e9 out for a very short drive. As Roger from Chasing Classic Cars always says, "makes noise, smells bad, gets hot, leaks oil." Heres a short video or the drive, those dual down drafts make a nice noise.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It runs and drives and all 4 gears work, that is the good news. The brakes are soft, it pulls hard to the right, the shocks are blown, the clutch needs bleeding or replacement, and there is a fairly loud clunk underneath it. Time to get to work.

I put the e9 up on the lift last night.

Lots of leaks but no damage and very little rust.

I think Im going to put it up on ramps in the drive way and de-grease it this weekend. I know the trans will be pulled at some point, the throwout bearing is making a noise and there are some leaks.

I also finished putting the alternator mount bushings in the 02 and I was finally able to tension the belt properly. One of the bolts was way to long so I hit one of the hardware shelves at work for a correct bolt and nut. Its pretty handy having this access to this.

Got a little work done this weekend. I used the Wagoneer to test the fan for the E9..

I gave the 02 a good wash and wax to get it ready for The Vintage this weekend.

And while I was working on the 02 I noticed the legs on my garage beer table were looking a little shabby so I hit them with a quick coat of paint.

Where do you keep finding those old drafting chair and stools? I've been scouring CL's and flea markets and they want over $100 a piece! I've been wanting to restore one for my garage but I'm not paying a fortune for one.

Hood on the 02 is looking great!

My wife and I do a lot of estate sales and go antiquing. The one on the left was like $25 and I restored it. The other one was $10 at an estate sale.

I had an amazing weekend at the Vintage, its Tuesday and Im still recovering. Friday morning I got the 02 packed up and met with my dad at his house. He followed in my moms wagon. Hitting the road.

The 2002 trunk defying the laws of physics.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The first leg of the trip was from Newnan Ga to the CCA foundation museum in Greer, SC. It was an easy drive and when we arrived we were greeted by tons of awesome BMWs.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We spent a few hours there checking out the museum and looking over all the cars. More photos later. After that we headed up to our Air B&B in Hot Springs, NC. It was actually a pretty fun drive, but traffic in Asheville sucked. I did grab a "selfie" while dead stopped in traffic.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Eventually we made it to the house for a victory beer.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After cooling down, lack of ac in a traffic jam will wear you out, we grabbed dinner and returned to the house to clean the car for the show.

The next morning we woke up, grabbed some breakfast, and headed to the show. It was insane. Here is a link to my photos from the museum and the show.

It was amazing. I am already excited about next year! We relaxed at the house after the show and grabbed some dinner in town. After dinner I walked about 50 feet to check out some of the Appalachian trail. Its proximity to the house will come into play in a minute.

The rest of the evening my dad and I sat on the porch and watched BMWs drive by. It was a ton of fun to just hang out with my dad and shoot the ****. The day finally took its toll on us and we were both in our rooms by 10am in the hopes of an early start the next morning.

Well we got our early start but not as planned. The proximity to the app trail lead a drunken hiker to our front door at about 3 am. He apparently thought we were a hostel and was highly upset we were "closed." We explained to him that he was mistaken but persisted to try to get in the house so we called the police, which did not answer...... After making it abundantly clear we were armed and done with him, he got the hint and ran back to the woods. Needless to say it was hard to go back to sleep so we packed up and left at dawn.

The ride home started off with some of the best mountain roads I have driven, it was a great way to get rolling. We eventually made it home about 11am and I took a much needed nap. Again, the 02 performed flawlessly on a road trip and just needs a good clean up.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We also acquired some parts for the e9 and made some great contacts for some parts we are missing so we started to work on the front end a little yesterday.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Hopefully we can take the E9 and 02 next year.

What a bizarre way to end your trip with that hiker, jesus!
But all in all, it looks like you had a great time with your dad. Nothing can beat a good road trip!

Sounds like you had an adventure. Having lived with the AT as a neighbor for 10 years, I can say that it was the source of several interesting stories. Through hikers camped on our property sometimes, but the worst attitudes came from the locals on day hikes. One night the Dartmouth Outing Club had a campfire and about a dozen students sitting on logs in the middle of the road... on the backside of a blind corner. Not the smartest kids.

I see you've already made it onto the E9 forum and you probably met a good fraction of the community last weekend (actually you probably already knew most of them since a lot of them also have '02s). Let me know if you need to source a part, I've got some spares.

I actually do need some stuff. I’ll put a list together and shoot you an email. Thanks.
