Love this space, and love the cars. There are very few cars that look better than a clean white e36 M3.

Do you find a lot of noise going through the roof into the house? When I use power tools in the garage it's almost deafening in the rooms immediately above. Are you considering a ceiling with insulation etc?

Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing what you do with the floor.

subscribed.

The floor and ceiling will be addressed soon I hope. I plan on renovating the bathroom upstairs so I dont want to box in the pipes yet on the ceiling. Thanks for the comments, I really havent done much lately as for updates.

This is how I spent my weekend. I was supposed to go to caffeine and octane(cars and coffee) but I noticed my pass front caliper was sticking a little. Then I noticed my rotors and pads were getting thin so those came off. Once those were off I felt like the wheel bearings were a little tight.

There goes some of my flooring budget.

Do you live alone? There's also a safety component to not having sound insulation... someday you may want somebody to hear your cries for help!

Of course, the safest thing to do is be safe, but still..

I'll have to take your word for it! It's so murky and dark in the wheel well I hope you had a nice LED headlamp! OK, this may be a camera trick, my phone camera gets very distracted by lots of white. Let me say it again, I like white paint for more light around the shop!

Oh, and since this is GJ, I must ask: What's in the orange can?

Decent stuff. The vendor came into work a few months ago, and when he found out I would on cars and airplanes he gave me a few cans.

My newest project will be fixing this.

I got rear ended yesterday by some waste of space texting. He actually hit me and then rolled into me again. Im hoping my paint guy can look at it this weekend and write up and estimate so I can dig into soon.

I picked up a tv my parents had laying around. Its nothing special but it will be nice to have a set in the basement. I ordered a tilting and telescoping mount so I can move it where I want. I am also going to run it from my directv box in the bedroom above, I can use the directv app on my phone to change the channel. I am just trying to figure out where to mount it.

image3.jpg

If I mount it here on the wall it will look good, be out of the way, safe, and central to where I work the most. Cons, are that it would be behind me while I am working at the bench and I would have to find somewhere else to hang the print behind it.

The other option I was thinking about would be here on the center brick wall(chimney), represented by the X.

e9335cfb-262e-4542-b97f-bc6c74849541.jpg

It would central in the room, out of the way for the most part, very safe, easy to see from the bench and outside(say if I were washing the car.) Cons are that I would have to move the fire extinguisher which I like being central in the room, I would have to wire a plug closer to the tv, and I would have to mount it a little lower do to the gas cut off for the fireplace(represented by the arrow.)

I am leaning toward the second option, but if anyone has other ideas I would love to hear them.

Sorry to hear about that. How much damage are you thinking, its hard to tell on the pictures. Bumper salvageable? Looks like the "waste of space" (lol) was at least going slow. My wife and I were rear-ended a few years ago in my old VW Golf and it was like 7 grand in repairs.

So far it just looks like the bumper cover, I am supposed to get the estimate done tomorrow but I havent heard from the shop yet. Imagine that. Once I get the estimate I will take the bumper off, realign it and buff the scratches because I have an event next sunday that I want to take the car to. After that its getting ripped apart and hopefully my parents neighbor can get the parts I want painted taken care of before the following weekend. I am just hoping to get it taken care of before Sowo in May.

I've always wanted to go to SOWO. It's a 16 hour drive for me tho.

Good luck on the bumper fix. Just adds character until you get it fixed!

Is SOWO the event that's up in Helen? Always heard Helen is a little wacky so I can see that event taking off. Are you going to next months Caffeine and Octane? If I can get my truck up and running that Saturday I'll be there. Hoping it's just a clogged fuel filter or my gas evaporates out while it sits. Didn't get any time to mess around with it last time I was home when it wasn't running.

Yeah it's the show in Helen and I'm going to try to make it to c&o. It seems like something comes up before every c&o that makes me miss it.

Helen, GA? Very nice little town! I’ve passed through there on my way to visit my Uncle Harry.
http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_county_reports.asp?state=GA&county=White

Now, in response to something MPower5266 just said, I’ll tell a little joke here.

A pirate walks into a bar in New York City. He’s got a parrot on his shoulder. Bartender sees him and says, “Hey, Mac! No pets in here! City health code!” The bartender turns around and clonks back towards the door on his peg leg, muttering.

Five minutes later, the pirate returns without a parrot on his shoulder, but with a notable lump in the front of his pants. The bartender says, “OK, buddy, c’mere. What’s in your pants?”

The pirate grumbles and pulls his trousers’ waistband forward. The bartender leans over and looks down in them.

“What the hell? You’ve got a steering wheel in your pants!” and the pirate says, “Hyar, and it’s drivin’ me nuts."

Thanks man. I got the TV mounted now I need to wire a plug near it and hide the wires.

View from the bench.

View from the other side of the shop.

And then I can pull it out from the wall and turn it so I can see it from the driveway when washing the car.

I also moved my fire extinguisher since the TV kinda blocked it.

I went to The Mitty on Sunday and picked up a new poster for the shop.

I even got to do a few laps on Road Atlanta, I really need to build another track car.

Picked up a new jack today.

451dd7dba2b31c39f368bd5ad21dab08.jpg

I know it's from hazard fraught but I needed a new one today to work on the m3 and it's just as well built as any of the jacks the local stores had. For $83 it seem to be worth the risk since I always use stands.

Did you buy the extended warranty? That's the one time I've done that at HF. Their wee aluminum jack had a reputation for seal leakage. It was mildly frustrating, as I'm rarely an insurance guy* because I felt like I was rewarding them for their incompetence.

I bought an Arcan at NT that's a little bigger than that this winter, and I wouldn't say "picked up", hoo boy, what a monster! While I'm a eurofoofoo at heart, the missus keeps me backed up with work on big, body-on-frame monsters.

Will this get your Jeep high enough?

I haven't tried it on the jeep yet but I imagine it would get it high enough to pull a wheel off. I don't even need to lift the jeep to do an oil change, that's really nice.

It looks like the basement is going to get a new short term resident. Yesterday my dad and I went to look at a 1973 Bmw 2002 and he ended up putting a deposit down on it. I hope we can pick it up one night this week, we are waiting for the owner and his son to find the title. But its going to stay at my house while I change some fluids and get it freshened up. I cant wait, its going to be a fun little driver.

Wow! Looks to be in great shape. Nice score.

Its about a 7.5/10 but we will fix all the little piddly stuff and it to a 9 or so. Hes just been looking for an entry level investor car and these things have been on the move.

German roofcat TUV approved; rated for 150 km/hr.

I just have to make sure shes in the same spot every time I get the car inspected.

It made it back to the house and it seems to be playing well with its sister.

I put it up on the dollies and notice something stuck behind the drivers front wheel. My first repair, "weave removal."

Well it's official, I am out of room.

I never thought about that. I could get like 10-15 of those down there and still walk around. I could also get a couple of isettas in there too. Haha

Your layout is amazing to be able to move those cars around like that.

It looks easier than it actually is. It's nice to be able to get them in there but I had to move a ton of stuff to make it happen.

At least you have the option of doing so! It also might help with your more permanent plans for your space as this shows you what potential it can have and what needs to be done when you get more cars in there.

Seeing a Malaga 2002 brings back fond memories. I had a 2004 in Malaga, until it was totaled by being rear-ended at a traffic light in Brooklyn by a Lincoln Town Car (NYC Black Car). Lost my fully restored 1972 Bavaria in the same year, stolen from the sidewalk in front of my house. Those two events really soured me on living in Brooklyn.

Your dad is very lucky to get a 2002 as clean as that. They are starting to really go up in value, so it's getting really hard to think about modding them. On the one hand they really do respond well to some basic tweaks, on the other, you want to preserve the value. There was a time when originality didn't matter on 2002s, it was just a fun, somewhat inexpensive car. Unfortunately those days are numbered. Perhaps the solution is to keep all the mods reversible, and hang on to all the original parts.

These days, I have trouble living with a car without air-conditioning, and we certainly know that even though few 02's came with it, and it could easily be added aftermarket, (all 2002 air systems were dealer installed!) The problem was that the cooling system was barely up to the extra load of running A/C, and it sucked valuable HP...of which the capable 02 needed every bit, (given how good the suspension was).

So have you put up a vapor/fume barrier yet? I started reading this thread and got 7 pages in and have not noticed it yet.

Nice Vermillion 02 did you goto Vintage fest over the weekend?

It's too far from me so I did not.

Here are my two M3's and a 3rd E30 shell in the back of the garage. Need to go finish looking through this thread.
