I need to pick up a cart soon.

I got my screwdriver organizer in today. Along with my wrench holders.

Then I got bored and decided to black the grilles back out on the 02.

Those wrench holders look like my soft Ernst holders. If your drawer is deep enough, keep the wrenches on top of the notches, instead of pushed into the grooves, for faster access. I can do that for wrenches 7mm - 14mm or so, bigger than that doesn't let the drawer slide in.

I don't have any organizers for my screwdrivers. It appears I just kept buying screwdrivers until they filled the drawer and didn't roll around.

Sorry I havent updated in a while but I have gotten a few things done.

I pulled the passenger door card off the other night to adjust the window and fix a rattle, while it was off I decided to fix the cover that was coming off.

Started on some more maintenance this weekend, so its back on jack stands. I really need a lift.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Started cleaning up the trans. Its obviously leaking a little but for now I changed the fluid, I also changed the trans mount and diff fluids. Ill have to throw some paint on the floor boards, but hey at least they arent rusty.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

What project is complete without making a new tool. I couldnt get a socket on the fill plug on the trans.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I almost forgot, I put the moldings on the front fenders before I went up on the stands.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

On the menu for this week, engine mounts and fixing this. Yep leaking wheel cylinders, no wonder the brakes sucked. Mounts, rear shoes, and front pads should be in by Tuesday. I should have all of that taken care of by Friday.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I also cleaned up and organized the other side of the shop in preparation of moving the white 02 and starting on it again.

New motor mounts went in last night. Old versus new.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Installed.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I couldnt get pics of the other side but they werent too hard to put on so I started on the rear brakes. That was going well until I noticed that I was sent the incorrect wheel cylinders.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

So for now I am in a holding pattern while parts show up. I should have it all knocked out Thursday or Friday.

Please tell us more about this special tool! Was there no room to swing the whole wrench? Is the drain plug a female hex head? Did you push a metric hex bit socket through the box end of this wrench?

Male hex head plug?

I had to put a pipe on the end of it, thats why I cut the end off. I think that could have been the first time its ever been out, at least by the look of the fluid. I couldnt get anything else on the plug because of the trans tunnel.

Hey it's been a while. Work has been crazy and on top of that the maroon 02 sat on Jack stands for a while waiting on parts. But all of that has been settled and I have really been enjoying this nice weather and driving the little beast around. I have enjoyed it so much in fact that I have decided that I really need to get the white car going. Before I can start on that I need to get all the parts organized. So today on the way home from work I stopped and picked up some shelves.

I have one put together and roughly in place.

ababe0b2409abc02f2ff163c7c0b15db.jpg

Now I just need to do a little more planning and get the other two together.

Got the rest of the shelves done. I need to start emptying the white 2002 but I'm thinking about buying a couple more shelves. I really just need to get everything laid out and see where I stand. So far I'm pretty happy.

I like that cart. I caught it on sale a while back, I think it was $70ish?

Are your screwdriver organizers Ernst? I need to put some organization to my screwdriver drawer.

I think they are Ernst. I need to cut the drawer liners so I can use the magnets on the bottom of them. I looked at the carts at harbor freight today and I really don't need one with drawers, I need more of a rolling table for when I'm working on stuff. The hf carts with out drawers, were kind cheap looking. I might just put some casters on a little table I have.

Re: My first post and basement garage build.

The contractor that built houses in this neighborhood back then must have had a thing for weird stairs. This is what my neighbors basement stair case looks like.

This is so cool! I wish I had such stairs in my house. I'd clean them up, and stain/paint them... such a cool and unique feature that your neighbor has!!

Good progress on your basement garage as well!!

Looks like a blast! Hopefully you'll like the new shelves - my parents have a pair of them and have never complained, and they stay pretty loaded up.

Alright, I got it home today. I think my trailer was a little overkill.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Even on the trailer I am still taller than it.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Got it wheeled into its spot in the garage.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Got all the parts out of the interior, I think its going to need a little more work on the floors than I thought.

Then I decided to soak the cylinders with marvel mystery oil, the engine is locked up. I figured it would be work a try. I was trying to get to the engine and the front fell off....

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

After that I cleaned the 10 plus years of dirt off of it.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

The paint is actually in decent shape.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

And of course, I had to set one of the seats in it. I fit......ish. Haha

I grabbed a big screw driver tonight and decided to dig into the floor board rust. It's not great but it's fixable.

I think.

After that I pulled the radiator and fan in preparation of yanking the frozen engine.

60fc3da9ed01e271b5c7976b9e8a827b.jpg

Yesterday I decided to fill the cylinders with marvel mystery oil on the off chance it might free up the engine. While I had the access I figured that I would try to turn it over.

https://vimeo.com/145945727

It looks like I might be able to save it.

I see you work in aviation, is it all GA? I work in commercial but work with some corporate customers.

Parents live down in GA, just north of the city. My dad works for an airline...

Also have an E39 M5 in the garage, i think BMW's and aviation go hand in hand. Nice looking setup!

I work for a large aviation parts company, we have a location here in GA, one in CA, and one in Canada... That might narrow it down.

When I lived there we used to fly down from Cartersville airport in a T6 for the airshow and pick up things from you for the Stearman projects we were working on.
Unfortunatly no longer involved in aviation

Great thread and the mini is cool!
