What are your plans? Fiberglass patch, riveted panels, welded panels?

Do you have a sheet metal brake?

I plan on welding in new patch panels. My dad has a brake, roller, english wheel, etc etc but I also have access to a 14' brake at work. We also sell sheet steel.

Cool mini project. I'm sure that you've got plans for it, but if you want some inspiration, check out Project Binky. These guys take fabrication to a whole new level.

Awesome Ill check them out.

I look forward to your progress. I've had several cars without complete floors and I've never went all in and welded in sheet metal. (I currently have a slowly rusting away E34 that could use some love but I just can't justify the cost).

Here's hoping watching you will inspire me to fix mine.

Pretty cool indeed!

Do you get the same warm fuzzy from being there that I get from just hangin' out in my basement garage?

I will find myself sitting down there on an uncomfortable stool watching a formula one race or something sipping a beer, when I have a nicer tv and a comfortable couch right upstairs.

Its probably a waste of time and money but it will be a good learning experience. I havent welded in years so it will be a refresher for me.

I love your garage. I read the whole thing today. It made me miss my E36 M3, which I lost due to a stupid driver this April. Good luck with your future plans.

I'm back! Had some wifi problems at home. Caught up on your thread last night. Where did you go?

I searched the thread and noticed I only preached the virtues of tool cart once. And it came up while I was gone, so I'll do it again.

Yeah, the HF one looks kinda lame. It's still oodles better than not having a cart. But kinda flimsy, and the paint quality (last I looked, a year or two ago), kinda blah. I bought a Craftsman cart off ebay for about $63 delivered, new in box, and love it. There's no point in paying retail for Craftsman, and ... ooh, it's on sale right now!

Craftsman 31" 2-tray service cart, model #59238, $79.99 knocked down to $66.49.
http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-...p-00959238000P?prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4

Of course, always check local CL and ebay before pulling trigger.

Also on sale right now at Sears, a plastic version of these carts.

Craftsman 34 1/2" 2-shelf heavy duty service cart, model # 59732, $179.99 knocked down to $91.79.
http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-...p-00959732000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

I have bought and assembled one of these, too, but don't use it. It's for m'lady's business, for use with produce and in the kitchen. I was very, very impressed with the quality of this one, and while it looks big, I measured, and it's only slightly bigger than the red steel type cart. It has bigger casters and rolls verrrry smoothly. She and her employees love it.

If you are the type to do the buffing of the fancy BMW -- and I suspect you are -- then a plastic cart might be a better idea, if it bumps into a car not going to do damage. And it would be handy place to put your orbital polisher down in the middle of a job, keep your polish and wax and whatnot handy.

OK, that is all. I hope all is well with you. I hope you're not suffering from Old Car Overload right now. I know I am. :D

I've been good man, the last few months have been a blur. Ended my relationship with my girlfriend so she moved out. Now I'm actually dating my neighbor, she's pretty awesome. Work has been nuts too. I got a new shop dog. Meet Hofmeister.

That being said, I should start to make some progress on the cars soon. I need to do some maintenance on the m and the 02 over the winter and I would like to start on the mini floors.

As for the carts, I've been looking for a plastic one on Craigslist. We have those at work and I love them.

I'll try to post on here more, work is settling down now.

A basement full of old European cars, yet still handy with the ladies?

I didn't know it was possible... I thought I was just a freak.

OK, I'm a freak, but that's besides the point.

I haven't done much in the shop but I did throw a little super bowl party on Sunday. I moved my big TV and surround sound to the basement and set the other TV on the puppy bowl.

Cooked up some pregame snacks, the smoked chicken and ribs were going in the smoker.

And the early arrivals enjoying some grub by the fire.

My buddy showed up in his 16v swapped rabbit.

After that the beer started flowing and I didn't take many pics. All and all it was a good time and it was awesome to watch the game while sitting near a fire.

I like your buddy's Rabbit! Also, those hot dogs look mighty tasty. Mmmmm.

Any progress with the Mini?

Havent touched it, I was actually just sitting at work trying to find a value for it because I am tossing around the idea of selling it. Maybe my mood will change when it warms up.

Haven't been on in a while but I got the basement a little dirty last night and I figured I would share. It all started when my girlfriend and I stopped at an antique sale yesterday and she spotted this.

I have been searching for an old tv like that for probably 4 years, I had to pick it up. Before we went home I made a few stops to get supplies, I knew exactly what we need to get. It begins.

Mounted a cheap rope light.

Perfect glow, I didn't want it too bright.

Cut panels out of birch plywood I got for free from work, one it warps or gets a chip it can't be used in an airplane.

Hof helping by picking up the trimmings.

Time to stain, and drink beer, but mostly stain.

Now my favorite part, using a new tool. It goes, "tukkiss!"

Panels and shelf installed.

Here is a shot from last night when we finished it up.

That's an awesome bar! Woodford and Bulleit, too... mmm.

Ill let you in on a little secret, the Woodford and Bulleit are Coke and water... They were almost empty so I killed them off and had to put something in it for the photoshoot. :lol_hitti

Here is a finished shot with all my girlfriend's decorating touches.

Its been a busy couple of months since I last checked in. I had to go to Sun N Fun to work, it was 14 days on the road and a ton of work. The only redeeming qualities of the trip were the massive amounts of beer consumed and I got to go on a little ride with team aeroshell again.

A buddy of mine wanted a tv bar so I fixed up another one for him.

I also picked up and re-finished a stool. It sold on facebook 4 minutes after posting it. :lol_hitti

I made the gf a little magnet bottle opener for her fridge.

A few days after that, she picked a bench vise up for me at an estate sale. I might keep her. Ill post more pics of the resto.

My dad picked this up, and if I help him move it I can get his old craftmans air compressor. There will be more update on that too.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

And Hof got a new collar, yes that is BMW motorsport cloth.

Lastly, I have listed the mini for sale. I just dont have the passion for it like I do for the 2002's and I would like the shop space back. But stay tuned, there may be another project in the works.

This is one of my favorite threads on GJ. You've really done a nice job with your shop.

BTW, if you like Bulleit and Woodford Reserve, I recommend Buffalo Trace and, if you can find it, Johnny Drum 101. I think Drum is one of the best reasonably-priced (about $30) bourbons made. Sadly, my local place no longer carries it.

Thanks, I love Buffalo Trace. I havent tried Drum but Ill keep and eye out for it.

I started on the vice last night, this is the first time I have ever successfully used ez outs. I had to drill out all the but three of the screws.

Who knew that craftsman used ms24693 screws back in the day, good thing too we have them at work.

For next time...

Got an impact driver? I've had pretty good luck getting vise jaw screws out with one. Use a pick to clean out the screw head first.

That TV Bar is awesome. My dad has one sitting on his porch that I've been contemplating something similar for. It may still work though... could make for a permanent Nintendo Duck Hunt fixture.

Really nice work and love the bar TV idea...Hof looks at lot like our dog Chase - how big is he? She's 21 lbs of bird and squirrel chasing terror! She's a rescue and was told she's a Jack Russel/Beagle mix, but I don't know...

Great stuff.

Ahh...closer to my cousin's larger doppelganger version of ours...her pooch is right about the size of Hof and too thinks he's a lap dog.
