We spent the first night in the house last night, what better way to celebrate than some solo cup champagne.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Me and the wife did just that with the family in our new house. Funny thing was as I popped the cork on the bottle, it shot out of my hand, hit the ceiling, came back down, and hit the Mother in Law square in the head.

I thought it was hilarious.....

I havent really done a build thread on any of them, we have been working on them very infrequently. The wagoneer has run, we are in the process of getting the body put back together. I am hoping it will hit the road soon. All the jeeps are at my parents house, my dad has a nice little drive in basement shop as well.

That being said, the jeeps are getting put on the back burner for a few weeks while their new home is being constructed. I might do a thread for this project as it progresses but construction just started on a 30x40 steel building at my parents house.

Wow. Just wow.

Any particular reason you did not put steps in for the deck or is this potentially in the future?

Space mostly. I knew it was going to be a small deck and I didnt want to lose that much room. There is plenty of egress and its only a 10' drop if I needed to jump, and the trash cans are right there so more like 4. Plus the dog likes hanging out there and I didnt want to worry about him running off.

I hear you about losing space. A gate could keep "Hof" in safely. I read the whole 47 pages today :)eyecrazy:) and can't believe how much you've accomplished since you started the thread. Makes me wish I had more than the 10x20 detached POS but it is a little inspiring to improve what I have. Bet that first :beer2: was real nice.

Thanks for taking time to read my thread, I am amazed that people actually care about my ramblings. Stay tuned, Im hoping for some garage progress in the next week or so. You should start a thread about your shop, Id love to watch the progress.

Also that beer was amazing.

This could prove to be motivational, but my house was erected 100 years ago as I was informed by an independent tax assessor. I suppose having eyes on the project probably wouldn't hurt. I have all of the materials to improve the wiring from my house, just need the permission from the boss (a.k.a. wife :fingersx:) to dedicate many hours to doing it right.

Looking forward to the updates. I was particularly happy reading the part about you having met your wife. Glad she decided to keep you.

Finished moving everything out of the rental house and into the new house last night. I also got the deck tv fully set up.

Made a little shelf for the box.

Then I cracked a beer and put the hockey games on.

After beer 10 or so I tested the flood light in the back yard.... its bright and I bet the neighbors hate it.

If you cant tell, I basically took the night off. I am beat. I intended on installing the butcher block in the laundry room but after doing all the measurements, running to lowes for supplies, setting up the saws, etc etc, I noticed all my extension cords are missing. I think the workers used them and mistakenly took them but with 10 different subs its hard to tell who took them. I emailed the builder for a credit and Ill have to pick some up this weekend.

Maybe they will drop off cords too. I've noticed some contractors throw away perfectly good items during cleanup because they are lazy and know it is easy to replace and charge customers for them...

Alright.... back at it last night and I started by knocking something off the "honey do" list. I installed some butcher block in the laundry room.

Before.

After.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

My wife was so excited that she offered to help get the garage ready for epoxy this weekend. I needed her help because she has already been down there and moved in this anxiety attack..

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Those are all antiques that we buy and resell, and I was hoping they would be organized as they were moved....they were not. So I kept my damn yap shut and worked on cleaning up the basement a little to make room for a few things we needed to move out of the other garage.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Early in the build we received this monster of a cabinet for the laundry room. It was obvious it wasnt going to fit so Im not sure why they moved it in to the house. Its 2 feet wider and 1 foot taller than it needed to be. The builder was nice enough to leave it in my way, probably because its solid wood and weighs a ton. Its terrible but my dad wants it for his 30x40 so I need to store it for a few weeks. Getting it in the basement was going to be a task but thankfully I came up with a solution.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Cabinet and 2002 for scale.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Speaking of the 02, it was next to make the move into the basement and well let me tell you........ IT DOESNT F$&#ING FIT!!!!

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I measured that thing probably 15 times and I was wrong every time. Im not sure what I am going to do but I took Thursday off work to start on my floors. I am looking at possibly cutting the door frame a little.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Or I might take the door down all together. Or just tarp it outside until my dads shop is done. I like the idea of the garage finally being code so I may just leave it and move it to my parents new shop, but I really liked the idea of easily working on it at home after work. I guess I have some thinking to do.

Looks like you could just pop the trim that is catching the trim on your bimmer on one or both sides. Alternatively, you could cut out the 1-2" section of trim on both sides and then replace it and few would be wiser except everyone here.

The other option could be cutting out the section of wall to the left of the door, adding some hinges, and then make it so that you could occasionally widen the passage. I'm certain with some creative finishing, you wouldn't be able to tell that the wall can be opened. Quick fix is probably cut small sections of the trim until you can figure out whether you need to make the passage permanently wider.

After looking at the photo again, makes you wonder if you could squeeze the car in using some winching straps and carefully tightening it so as not to cause any permanent change.

So I did a thing.

IMG_1975.jpg

And now it fits...

IMG_1976.jpg

There are plans to hinge the whole door, but in due time. So now that the new garage is empty, I cleaned it really well.

IMG_1979.jpg

My dad even jumped in to scrape.

IMG_1978.jpg

Once it was clean, I grabbed my favorite battery killer and dusted.

IMG_1980.jpg

Then wetted it down and applied some acid etch.

IMG_1983.jpg

Here's me almost done with the etch and thinking that normal floors might look fine.

I can only do 7 attachments on the app, and it's still better than Tapatalk. Anyway, now I need to let the floor dry out and I'll be ready to mask off and put down some primer.

IMG_1985.jpg

Bonus almost dry shot.

More to come this weekend.

Can't wait to see how your new floor ends up. Eventually, I am going to start my own thread to solicit the help I am going to need to make my small shop better. Wish I found GJ sooner. :(

Last night, I taped up the trim and ran dehumidifiers in the garage to pull all the water out of the slab after etching. As my dad would say, it was "drier than a buckwheat dog turd."

Today was going to be a big day so we started with some "f@#$ing pancakes" a little homage to one of my favorite threads on here. Sakurama's Mid-Century Moto Mecca.

Great thread if you haven't read it.

Then it was off to work. I have the floor primed and ready to paint the epoxy tomorrow.

I'm a little nervous about tomorrow, I hope I like the flake colors I picked out....

Well, pilgrim, you could test the flakes somewhere, but what would be the fun in that. Did you decide to localize each flake color to stripes in specific spots or just going for the free-for-all?

Hope it goes down well!

It’s going to be a free for all in the flake department. Although I never thought about doing stripes, that would have been cool.

My dad and I took the plunge yesterday afternoon and put down the epoxy and flakes....

IMG_5772 by mpower5266, on Flickr

Its perfect!

IMG_5765 by mpower5266, on Flickr

I didnt want to over do it with the colors and I had a few clumpy areas but I think it turned out great. This afternoon I ran to Lowes for supplies and picked out the colors for the m stripe and bottom half of the wall. I cant wait to start painting next week.

IMG_5775 by mpower5266, on Flickr

After that my dad and I put down the sealer with grip additive. I do a lot car washing and I dont want to slip and fall. Here is its when we laid it down.

IMG_5772 by mpower5266, on Flickr

And after its cured for a couple hours. Its flattening out a little bit which is good.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I even got a decent tape line, and I am terrible at taping.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

So far I have been happy with Armorpoxy, I just hope it holds up as well as it installs. Thats all for the next couple days, I am going to give it a little extra cure time and get started on the walls probably Wednesday or Thursday.

Looks very nice. Very jealous of your addition. It's just incredible.

The floor and your selection of paint colors are perfect! I can't wait to see the end result.

I'd like to do Honda Red and Kawasaki Green in my garage eventually, but I'm afraid it would look like Christmas so I have to figure out a cool way to segregate the colors but tie the two together so it doesn't look disjointed. I have a couple of ideas. Maybe I'll have to add H-D orange and Suzuki Blue so I have my bases covered and it won't look too much like a Christmas Village.

I think your flake colors look great. The whole theme looks great. What color walls are you doing?

The only negative I ever have about flakes after helping a friend work on his car with a floor with flakes is you will cuss trying to find small screws.

I had the same thought, but didn't want to say it out loud. I think the best solution for finding small screws on that floor might be to just attach small magnets to your tools so nothing drops.

I am doing light grey about half way up, then the m colors(1-1/2"-2" wide each) and then white. As for working on stuff, it will be a pain if I drop something but this is mostly going to be for parking and detailing, my dad's new 30x40 is where any major work will be done.

Garage floor looks good. Interested to see how the ///M stripes turn out. Looks like your going for a more classic color scheme. Isn't the current light blue a little darker when I see it on the race cars?

Oh nice like the sound of the paint scheme. Can't wait to see it all complete.

It will just be a display and detailing garage then just ignore me.

Its kind of an in-between.... The vintage colors were light blue, purple, and red. Light blue for Bavaria, Red for Texico (they had a racing partnership at the time) and purple was the mix of the two.

BMW_batmobile_3.0_CSL.jpg

The current scheme the same but the purple has become darker, and pretty much navy.

BMW-340i-M-Sport-Package-M-Stripes-9-750x500.jpg

I got samples from Legacy and Armor and neither of them had a purple that I liked so I got as close as I could to the colors.

Great job! I bet your enjoying all the natural light in the new garage. What kind of wall stripe layout are you planning? Something like what I just did in mine, or something different?
