I vote for E9x M3, but I'm biased :) Love my DCT for daily use. Have the Cobra if I need a manual itch to scratch. Which I did yesterday before the game.

In addition to Nick, I've been toying with the E90 M3 idea, as well. Would obviously prefer a 6MT, but for daily duties and occasional drives for the wife, a DCT makes a lot of sense. I've owned an E90 (non-M) in the past and loved the platform, and I personally prefer the look of the E90 M3 over the E92 M3. The proportions just look right to me on the sedan.

I love my wagon, but they are bringing decent money on BAT so I am kinda tempted. The other option is to keep the wagon but sell the Chief, xj wag, my 2002 project, and maybe my 944 and get an e92 m3 manual. If I got an e90 m3 daily it would have to be DCT, so the wife can drive it. That scares me a little because she said the wagon was fast after the intake swap. :lol_hitti

Man, as much as I love the wagon, I think getting rid of those 4 other vehicles would be a tough pill to swallow in order to pickup an E90 M3. My vote is to see what you can get on BaT (like you said, they're fetching decent money) and keep the other rides.

That said, did I not know you had a 944???

umm.. more info on this 2002 project for sale?? :D PM is fine..

Its the 74 that I crammed into my basement. The biggest issue I have with selling it, is that I have had like 10-15 people interested in it and I don't remember who was first and I am bound to make someone mad.

I honestly don't see myself ever getting the 02 and Chief on the road, and the XJ was an investment from the beginning. I think a clean e92 would be a better long term investment car than those 3 combined in their current shape. The 944 would be a tough sale, it was my first car and its currently sitting with a snapped timing belt. I have everything to fix it, but its not that fun compared to my m3 and more prone to breaking.

Non Turbo 944, sell it now while market on them is still decent. The 02 if it's clean shell it should pull decent money being a southern car. Imagine someone would swap on early bumpers and maybe a M42 or a built M10 would be quite fun with it and a modern 5 spd.

How has progress been going with the E9?

The 944 has sentimental value more than anything. The 02 is clean, I repaired a lot of rust and its pretty close to being ready for paint.

The e9 goes to paint Monday. Not a full glass out but the dents and damage will be repaired and painted, I will try to save what original paint I can.

Fair points. You may have reversed my thinking, then. Curious to see what you end up doing. I'm trying to wait until later this Spring to make a decision on my course of action. I've gone back and forth between a new M340i, E90 M3 (DCT), E30 touring (still want one, but might wait until my garage addition), F80 M3 (prices on the early models are getting somewhat affordable).

I'm willing to trade you a 944 Turbo straight up for your 944. Mine has zero miles on it too, still in it's original garage.

I have been looking for one of those... my Target and Kroger have a terrible Hotwheels selection.

So a few days ago a woman on my local BMWCCA facebook page posted about "finally getting rid of the ugly alum trim in her wagon." I asked her what she did with the alum trim and she said, "its in the trash." After a few messages she agreed to box it up and ship it to me for free. I offered her money or even a donation to her favorite charity in her name but she said, "pay it forward."

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It needs some cleaning, and one of the pieces needs the mounts repaired but the price was right. I'm not sure if I like it with my interior but I might put it in and experiment with wraps on my wood trim. Im thinking matte black to match the steering wheel trim or piano black. Or I may end up liking the Aluminum, it matches the shifter, door releases, and rings on the cluster. What do you think?

Oh, I just commented this on IG, lol.

As I said, as long as it's not "wood", you're good to go (in my book at least, I hate "wood" trim). Nevertheless, I'd go with the matte black finish, the aluminium finish on a tan interior doesn't go that well (for me, of course!).

I like how you can't even leave the daily alone, even though you've got loads of project cars :)

Haha, I mean if I didn't get this for free I probably wouldn't be messing with it. I think I am going to try the alum for a while and play with some wraps on the wood trim. I like the alum but it does look a little off with the tan. Maybe it will grow on me.

It's funny you asked about the 944, this popped up on timehop today. This is the most recent picture I have of it. Haha.

I have been looking for one of those... my Target and Kroger have a terrible Hotwheels selection.

I was out in CA last week. Mattel had a corporate office with a store attached right across from my hotel in El Segundo. That was the only 944 in the store. And I picked up the only Ford GT-40 they had for my son too.

I have 3 Walmarts locally that usually have huge selections of Hotwheels so I'll keep an eye out for one for you. I don't spend a lot of time looking at Hotwheels anymore since my son is 14 now. He doesn't "play" with them anymore, but we do like to look every now and then. But I enjoy the hunt so I'm happy to help you out since you offered to help us out when we finally get a chance to head up to Osh Kosh for the Fly in. Shoot me a PM if there are any other current HW cars you're looking for.

I posted on IG as well (03BeastCharmer). If the car sits in the sun the aluminum gets very hot on the center console.

The more I look at the aluminum trim, more dings and scratches I notice. I think Im going to wrap the aluminum trim and keep or sell the wood. I put a piece of the door and its way too light for my liking.

It matches the handle. But yeah, I'm on the same page. Way too clear for a tan interior.
Matte or satin black :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That's the fun and beauty of vinyl wrapping. Not expensive, changes the car/part completely, and you can easily hit Ctrl+Z if you don't like :)

That was cool. Nice find! Kudos to asking about a charitable donation in her name.

My wife and I went to Birmingham on a little anniversary trip this weekend. We pretty much just went antiquing and brewery hopping. I finally found a gas pump sign with the #3 on it for the garage, its also BMW blue and white which is extra cool.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We also made a quick stop at Barber on the way home. If you haven't been I highly recommend it. I did my best to snap some pics with my phone.

I also have a small update on the e9. Its going to paint and body today, my dad is currently taking it to the shop. I hope it makes the vintage but I am nervous that it wont.

We found pretty much the last body guy in our area that will work panels rather than replace them. He's basically retired, doesn't want us to tell anyone who he is and doesn't want more work. He only took the job because he thought it would be interesting.

Sounds like he will actually get the work done, and the result hopefully will be excellent!

I hope so too.

The wrap I ordered for my interior trim came in and since I had some free time last night I decided to give it a shot. I started with this piece. It came out ok but I messed up the cut around the chrome piece, but not bad for a first attempt.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I peeled that off and decided that one of the door trims would be easier to I popped one off and gave it a go.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It needs some work on the edges so I will probably redo this one but not bad. I did the other rear door, no photo for some reason, and it came out better. So I popped one of the front door trims off and wrapped it. This was my best piece yet but it was a pain. There is a downward and inward curve that required a lot of heat to get it laid down right. Even though it was a little difficult it was my best piece yet.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I went ahead and used the rest of the vinyl to wrap the passenger front door and it came out even better than the rest.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I have some more wrap on the way to do the center console and dash trim, I think I am going to like the way this looks.

Looks great. I wish I could keep the insides of our vehicles that clean. Can you please share the wrap and heat gun you are using? I'd like to make some upgrades to the interiors of our vehicles but have never done any wrapping before. Thanks!

Looks great! I had contemplated that for a couple previous cars, but thankfully for my patience i ended up selling the car prior :) Nothing like wood accents to date an interior.

The wrap is cheap and I dont know how it will hold up but I didn't want to mess up and trash a bunch of expensive wrap.

I used a hair dryer for the stuff I have posted since my old hand me down heat gun died. I did just order a new one though. Got it last night.

One of my favourite garages Nick, don't see the basement section too often anymore. What do you use that space for nowadays?

Looks good!

My all time favorite trim wrap (and maybe even overall) was a wrap that someone had done on a black 2011 335xi M-Sport I test drove, it was a black anodized brushed look to cover up a wood trim in a black interior. Cool car, but I wanted a N54 RWD manual and ended getting one with diamond pattern aluminum. (Hides marks better, than the brushed aluminum, but I don't think it looks quite as good.)

My wife has mostly taken it over for her antiques. Its clearing out a little now that she has a booth at a shop thats really doing well. We have to take stuff to the shop weekly and she is buying more often. I hope we can quit our jobs and open our own shop someday. :lol_hitti

I like that but I don't trust myself to get the lines right. The stuff I am using is from the same company.

Speaking of wrapping, I did the dash parts last night. I will probably have to redo them since I was a little distracted and I made some mistakes, but I am happy with the look.

Up next is the center console and probably ordering another roll to re-wrap the dash parts.

Got a little more wrapping done.....very little. I re-wrapped the ashtray cover.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And then attempted to wrap the center console but had trouble and wasted a roll and a half of wrap, I had to order more. Since I had some small scraps I did the emblems on my wifes Tahoe.

Then Sunday I did an oil change on the wagon and rotated the tires. I went with LiquiMoly since I have buddy that works for them, he recommended the flush and additive.

I used the recommend Castrol oil last oil change, and burned about half a qrt in 5k miles. I'm hoping the LiquiMoly does a little better.

1 qrt per 10K miles on my vw engines is pretty normal for me. I don't think your oil burn is out of range. Cars are looking great as usual
