I crushed thorough a good portion of this thread. Some where along the way it turned into bimmerforums.com! LOL. Great garage and cars. I love older BMWs, they had such character E46 and earlier. I was just talking to my wife yesterday that we should get an E30 and fix it up. We dropped off her F31 diesel today to the shop and there were several hanging out in their lot just begging to get fixed up. Fate I guess. I'm just starting getting my attached garage sorted out since we bought last fall. I was thinking of doing an M stripe like you have and fade it to a Brumos Racing stripe (stable mate) but was vetoed by the frau. Just wall art.

Any way, I enjoy the thread you have going. Love the 2002 and you can't go wrong with an AW M3. Below is my contribution for us Bimmerphiles

Great shot! You're making me want to bust out my Canon 40D and start getting back into some non-iPhone picture taking!

That is the most important thing. Glad to hear it, man...fantastic!!

That's a really cool idea. Where did you get them made?

Happy cinco!! Us and a few of our neighbors all hung out in our yards outside with the kids, adults with adult beverages and kids on all their various bikes/scooters/balance bikes/etc. Love my wife more than anything, but it sure was nice to socialize with other human beings for a change! :lol_hitti

I had the plate frames made at some online custom plate company. I may do a run of them. I am getting excited about the kids. I know it will be tough in the beginning but when they come online they are going to be a lot fun.

Yum, great to hear about future minions.

PS I bought it.

I kinda miss bimmerforums. It seems like forums in general are dying off, m3forums died recently. Sorry to hear about the F31, my buddy just got a diesel Msport and I love it. I cant wait to see how the stripe turns out.

I will have some pics later, they are putting the carport up today.

165,000 miles and needs a new fuel pump now, not too bad IMO :dunno:?

Oh... you meant that there were several e30's at the shop. I read it that there were a bunch of diesel bmws waiting to get fixed. I think I am going to end up with an oil burner f31 at some point. Or just steal my moms. :lol_hitti

Ummm, i just want to circle back, your first car was a Porsche? WTF, and you still have it, holy jeebus! Speaking to your point about Matt, i know all car fans wish they could re-own an old car. I have a few on my list, unfortunately for me they aren't simply sitting under a cover at some storage facility hahaha, wink wink.

I really need to get it up and going. Its been out at the airport years, its going to need a lot of love.

I was expecting this to take longer, but the guys got the carport up in like 3 hours.

Now I have to start trimming it out and work on the pressure washer room and lighting. I am very excited.

I got home last night and did a test fit with the Tahoe and the wagon. They fit perfectly.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And in wash mode.

The original plan was to enclose the rear and side facing the yard but I kinda like it open. I may scrap that plan. Right now I am planning out the lighting, I think 6 led lights like I have in the garage and designing the room to hold the pressure washer. Plenty of room to wash, I cant wait to get it together of the next couple of weeks.

I agree on the openness for the most part. It will keep it lighter in there too, even though youll have lighting added. I wonder if LED strip lights would produce enough good light to work? Something easy and waterproof.

I have limited experience with carports, but I wonder if enclosing the back of it would help strengthen the structure. There doesn't seem to be much from pushing it over. No cross bracing anywhere. Ive seen some with cables or steel rods for x-bracing.

Looks great, I bet you're happy. I like it!

I am really happy and it came out much nicer than even I was expecting.

I found some indoor/outdoor lights that should put out enough light and at the correct "daylight" temp for detailing. I may add the wood trim like I had planned on the back, and I am sure that would help with bracing. It was a concern for me but its wind rated to like 120 or 130 and we dont get massive amounts of snow or anything. Its sturdier than I thought it would be.

Better start searching they are becoming increasingly difficult to find. There was a time when my dealer would just put their trade ins in the back for me. I had 9 at one period. I have the M logo in the back of the garage as well.

Oh man, was not originally liking the idea of the wash rack but seeing it in your yard has changed opinion. Looks great

Well you got me to get a steamer. Trying it out in the house and tile first. Told the wife it would clean and sanitize around the house as well as some car detailing. :)

Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

Technically, these steamers don't get hot enough to sanitize. Just a heads up. But you will love it. I use it way more than I thought I would.

Smart! Key is getting the wife on board. Then the rest is gravy! [emoji23]

I'm trying to get mine on board with a Raptor but its not happening. :lol_hitti

I did a little playing in the washbay this weekend. I wasnt able to wash in it, but I did dry the car off.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

My original plan was to strip the outside of the carport with stained wood strips to dress it up a little, but as I wash drying the car I realized that might not be a good idea.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Since I had to go from a 20x20 to a 19x20 due to codes, I kinda need the extra space to get all the doors open on both cars when they are parked. Thankfully the carport actually came out pretty nice so I dont think it needs to be dressed up. I also worked on the plans for the lighting and pressure washer room. I am actually going smaller than I intended with the room for the pressure washer but I will be able to get everything I need in there and still have room for loading the kiddos in the Tahoe. I think its going to be great. Once the pressure washer is moved, I will have space in the garage where it was installed. I need a little more storage for polishing supplies and I could always use a little more counter tops so I think am going with this cart/work bench from Harbor freight.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I looked at it yesterday at the store and I think its going to be perfect. Hopefully I will have some more updates this week.

The carport really did come out fantastic. And agreed, I don't think it needs to be dressed up all that much. Looks fine, as is!

So the M3 had the typical trunk latch cracking.

49885828108_aabe88297e_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I ordered a re-enforcement piece since it was cheaper than making one. But first it needed paint.

And the final coat of black.

49886660002_1ab90ec084_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then I installed it. I think it came out pretty okay.

I also finally got a cargo mat for the wagon. Rubber floor mats should be here in the next day or so. I gotta get the interior protected from the twins.

49886660302_c6a8be67db_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Speaking of the twins, we found out the gender(s) last week, and my wife made her announcement on social media yesterday. Nothing crazy like most gender reveals, but cute. I did my version last night as well.

I should have been packed up and on the road to the Vintage with my dad this morning but sadly it was cancelled do to Covid. I'm pretty depressed about it since I likely wont be able to make the rescheduled date but driving the 02 to work today helped a little.

Sad I'm missing the show, mostly because my dad and I have so much fun there but I hope to get started on the pressure washer room for the wash bay tomorrow.

Funny how we enjoy things that as a kid we might not have. I turn 54 this year and it's how old my Dad was when he passed 27 years ago. I miss him, Enjoy as much quality time with your parents as possible.

Great looking pictures as usual.

We did end up spending some quality time together, we worked on the shed for the wash bay. It was a pain getting the anchor lags into the wall.

Testing the bucket shelf.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And our stopping point. Both shelves in and the roof is on. We need to get some aluminum roofing like what is on the carport and some beadboard up. Then on to the doors. I also need to paint the inside before I set up the washer. I am hoping to have it close by next weekend.

I celebrated by going to the bar last night(it was first time its been open since the rona) and had a beer and watched a live sporting event. I missed this so much.

I worked on the shed doors last night.

After that I put the twin's cages together.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

On the way to work this morning I heard a little thump. I thought it was weird but I ran over a shredded the other day so I was worried something on the under tray broke. I pulled over and didnt see anything. A few miles down the road I heard a slight *ping* noise and the thump went away. I figured whatever was broken fell off and I decided I would get up on the lift this week to check it out. Then this came on the dash and it started pulling to the left.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The weird thing is that my car doesnt have TPMS so I dont know how it knew I had a flat, but I had a damn flat.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I tried to air up with my portable pump, since this car came with run flats it doesn't have a spare.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I was hoping to air it up enough to limp it to my parents house which wasnt too far from where I was stuck, but no dice. I had to call my dad to go get one of the factory wheels from my garage and a jack. Rather than getting my light low alum jack from my house he grabbed his heavy *** monster jack from his house, it was too tall. He then had to run back home to get some wood. All and all I spent about an hour and a half at this gas station with rednecks laughing about the broken Beemer. I finally got the wheel mounted up, drifty boi style.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Thankfully my dad let me take his Jeep to work and hes going to drop the wheel off at the tire shop. The sidewall took a beating but hopefully they can patch it and it will be fine, but I may need to order a new tire. It only has like 5k miles on it.

I wonder if it is the Xdrive sensing the pull and difference in circumference. It may use the same light for low pressure and wrong tire size.

My car is RWD. Apparently its an early TPM system based off wheel speed. It doesnt give you much warning. I noticed a slight pull, slowed down, looked for a safe place to stop, and then the light. Tire is shot, I have to order a new tire.

Well that's a great point and oversight on my end. ***** about the tire.

My E46 M3 uses wheel speed sensors for TPMS as well. I wonder when they switched to using actual pressure sensors.

It's called FTM and mine shows the same light but I don't have a flat. Still reading about it.

You have to reset these when ever you air up the tires. Press the button to get the light to be yellow and start driving. The computer will calculate the rotation and go off in a couple of rotations. When there is a difference in rotation you get the red light. You will also get the red light if the wheel speed sensor starts going out.

Ill have to play around with it, right now I am just hoping they get the tire in before the weekend.

I got the doors hung on the shed last night, but forgot to take pictures of them before I put the tarp back on. Here is some router action though. :lol_hitti

Ill get better pics tonight. We were going to start on the siding but there was some rain coming in so I worked on another little project. I wanted a key rack for the garage. I have a few 2002 valve covers in my parts stash so I slapped something together.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I basically got some 1032 2" long screws a few nuts and some washers and secured them through the holes. Everything is easily reversible so it could still be used on a car. I think it came out great.
