The picture from the Ingles gas station looks like an Ingles in Black Mountain (just east of Asheville), and my ladyfriend is going to Hot Springs tomorrow night for a "girl's weekend" at some AirBnB they set up. Small world!

Ha thats funny. The air bnb we had was an house broken up into 3 apartments. I pulled up and there was a younger couple standing by the road, and I heard "Nick???" as I passed. Turns out he is a guy that I have been talking to for years on facebook but never met. My dad and I ended up making some deals on e9 parts with him.

I'm sure you and I have been at many of the same car events in the recent past. I am usually hanging out with the VW/Audi people since that's one of my hobbies away from Honda stuff.

Huge update but the photos are going to be boring.

Picked up a new shifty boy for the e9. It obviously needs a clean up, not sure why its covered in great stuff. We have the bell housing, so we just need to gather a few other parts, and put new input and output bearings and seals in it. I am so excited, this car with a 5 speed will be amazing.

We are also starting on the Biergarten today. So I hope to have some photos to share when I get home.

So a couple weeks before the tornado hit I had a landscaper out to look at some stuff at my house. There were a couple trees that we wanted knocked down, I wanted a little fill dirt around the concrete pad, and I wanted some gravel poured in the area behind the house near the washbay. Well the tornado hit so all of that was rescheduled. Over the next couple months we got the house back to livable conditions, made some improvements, cleaned up the yard and had a new fence put up. On Monday my contractor came and installed our gutter guards, which essentially finished the house. My wife and I had decided that when the house was finished we could get back to the Biergarten project, so we had called the landscaper back and he showed up yesterday. He started with the fill dirt around the pad, nothing special but it will keep me from breaking my ankle if I step off it washing a car. He then filled some low spots and put down fabric.

51530994011_aa6e1624f8_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then he put down the edging and laid the gravel. I went ahead and moved the bench and fire pit from out of my washbay where they have been sitting for almost a year now.

51530626035_0713682ab8_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After the kiddos went to bed, I assembled the chairs that we had ordered right before the tornado. They were delivered the Monday after the tornado so we had used the boxes to block off the main room of the house since it was full of glass. I was happy to finally get them together.

51529701116_ecccc6bcd9_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And since this has been months in the making, I set them all up and had a beer out there last night. It was too late to start a fire so I stuck a magnetic work light on the washbay for ambiance.

51530626105_23c75c6e65_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We still need to plant ferns along the edging, hang up some signs, put up the lights, build a little pallet fence around the AC unit, and set up the traditional Biergarten table. I have a feeling we are going to spend a lot of time out here.

Nice work on the Biergarten! Have you considered trying to get some hops vines to grow? I'm no gardener, but I think they can be grown in the south.

We do not encourage the green scourge down here. We have a big kudzu problem down here, I just ripped ton of it off the side of the house.

My wife posted these photos the other day.

These were taken almost exactly 6 months apart. Its done. Everything has been repaired and the contractor has been paid, we are done with the tornado... I actually spent the last two days at work reading back through this thread and its been hard to keep from showing my emotions. Its crazy that a little dump that I was honestly hoping to fix up and flip in a few years for something nicer became such a huge part of my life. I met the cute girl next door because of this house, and eventually proposed to her in the driveway exactly where we met. That spot in the driveway is now where our master bedroom sits, well actually the garage but the master is above it. We brought our kids home to this little shack and it will forever be the first place they lived. I was gutted when the tornado hit, and wiped away all my hard work. I am so happy that its finally a memory, now I can go on to make better ones.

Wild how that works out, isn't it? My wife and I started out living together in a little starter house less than 800 square feet. I hated living there. It was small and dark and a little run down, but we put the work in to make it a nicer place. New floors, new paint, fix structural problems, etc. We ended up living there for several more years. It was both my kids' first home. We lived there when we got married. It held so many memories of so many moments for us.

We recently moved on to a nicer neighborhood and a bigger house. The emotion of leaving that place behind was not what I expected. I was a little torn up to be changing houses and leaving behind so many memories. Hopefully this new place will be every shred as big and important for us as yours is for you.

Had a great weekend trip to Clemson for the game. When I got home everything went to ****.. Yesterday I woke up tired and late. While I was making coffee, my mom sent a text saying that their dog was not doing well. They took her into the vet and ended up putting her down. She was a great pup but she was getting old and having some issues, she will be greatly missed.

The rest of the day at work was pretty somber and it felt like people were in horrible moods. I just wanted to go home and hang out with my dog, and the wife and kids. It had rained all day, and I came home to see all the fill dirt I just had installed washed away.

51553640756_7459543fbe_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

A little bit of the gravel had washed away as well. I am trying to get my landscaping guy back out, it seems that he used sand rather than dirt? It will get fixed, I am sick of 1 step forward and 2 steps back on everything lately. Hopefully I can use the firepit this weekend, I need a break.

So last week was pretty bad, between losing the the family dog, work bs, the kiddos not sleeping great, and the 5 speed we bought possibly being a dud. I made it my mission to relax this mission, but I needed to get some work done before I could do that. Saturday we loaded the kids up early and headed to Lowes for supplies. I had to change my plans up a couple times on the fly because Lowes seemed to be out of everything, but I eventually got it figured out. I grabbed some 10 foot sticks of 1/2 galv, I wanted to use conduit but they were out, some zip dies, anchors, etc etc. I drilled some holes in the top of the tubes and hammered them into the ground and attached them to the fence. I had to use the wrong mounts since lowes was out of those, but these worked.

51576528876_83b689c79c_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I anchored the lights to the house with some aluminum clamps from work and zipties, I hope they hold up. After about 2 hours I had the lights up.

51575650002_1f9524280c_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The two strands of lights of course met in the middle of the air so I had to get a little crafty to hold them together. I then wrapped this sketchy contraption in duct tape of course.

51576699123_2b32b05e06_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And the finished product.

51576699198_38da7dd6c6_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I ran out and grabbed some german beers, stole some firewood from my parents, and had a buddy over for cigars and beers.. PROST!

51577138074_c31be15682_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We still have some signs to put up and we have a biergarten table on the way, but its getting close and I enjoyed relaxing out there.

I also did a simple little watch project over the weekend. I had a canvas strap that just didnt really work on any of my watches, and I saw were a friend on instagram waxed a similar strap. So I ordered some canvas wax and tried my hand at that this weekend. I have a few touch ups that I need to do but I think it turned out great.

Nice work on the biergarten, that looks like a great place to relax. Those picnic tables will finish it off nicely. Looks like the perfect place for beers, bratwurst, schnitzel, and giant pretzels, and you're just in time for Oktoberfest!

Love the look of the Sinn on that strap, that's a great combo.

Sorry to hear about the dog, that's always really tough on everyone. Here's hoping this week is better for you.

Not really garage related but it could be eventually. I got the new Iphone 13 pro and I feel like my photos are going to be much better. I snapped this one down in the basement in low light.

I have been on a waxed canvas kick so I picked up another strap for my 22mm watches and waxed it last night.

51587851281_276383667f_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Ok enough with the watches. The e9 has taken up permanent residency on the lift and it will likely not make a show that I planned to go to on Oct 30. Imaginary problems are the hardest to fix... but I digress. I decided last night to get the 02 ready just in case. I have noticed a clunk in the front end for a while, so I decided to investigate. I think when the front end was last rebuilt, everything was torqued while it was in the air, so I set the car on some 4x4's, to loosen and re-torque everything.

51588068508_9a8da0ce09_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I drove it to work today, and it seems to be fixed. The torque bar seemed like it was way too tight..

I am going to try to get the lights back up in the washbay this weekend since its getting dark early, but we'll see.

+1 looks great

It's truly amazing how far phone cameras have come and it's always what I look forward to most when upgrading. In addition to great hardware (lenses and sensors), the work Apple has put into image processing and simulated depth of field is top notch. IMO the pics in your latest post speak for themselves...

I have been really stressed the last few weeks, and I think it stemmed from projects piling up. I decided to take a metal health day Friday and thankfully my wife told me, "between 8am and 5:30pm you do not exist so do whatever you want." I got up early to run some errands and then got some work done around the house. I finally got the lights back up in the washbay.

51600529763_88d91cdca3_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

They aren't fully wired in yet, they are run on an extension cord but they are functional and I can keep the cars cleaner now. After that I got the wagon all cleaned up for Saturday morning. My wife hosted a baby shower for one of our neighbors Saturday, her mom took my daughter for the day, and the boy and I hung out. We loaded up early and hit a cars and coffee. He rode in a BMW for the first time and was awesome at the show.

We hung out the rest of day at my parents house. Saturday night we had some friends over to hang out in the biergarten for a bit. I am so happy that the house is getting back to normal, or better in the case of the washbay area. I'm ready to put the tornado behind us.

Wagon looks awesome.

Looks like the wash bay doesn't have a gutter? If so you may want to consider having one installed before fixing up the soil again.

Thats part of the issue but it also washed away along the edge without the washbay. The landscaper just used a light sand type dirt. I want to bring in Georgia clay, pack it, and plant grass.

Hi, long time no chat. Life has gotten busy... We have been out of town and hanging out with the kiddos. A few weeks ago we got the Biergarten fully set up. I need to get a good pic of it all together but here is the table set up.

51684290103_0f3846c510_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We had a party that weekend and I wanted to have the e9 and 02 under the carport. So I picked up the E9 from my parents house and drove it for the first time since early Sept. It ran like **** but I got it cleaned back up from the vintage trip.

51684017581_2884a8a1d8_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I took the car back to my parents shop and looked it over. We found that one of the carb mounting bolts was loose, and one thing lead to another.

51684014646_341bee9373_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

One of the carbs was hanging open occasionally so we were going to work on the linkage. Once we had them out we noticed how dirty they were and decided to rebuild them.

51684694659_708eeff95c_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Once cleaned, my dad started rebuilding them. He made a float gauge, I hope it worked.

51684014616_b90b24fd0f_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And how it sits currently.

51683227462_7c70b2fbe2_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We are installing a "boost pump" to help it start after sitting a while, its apparently a common mod for these cars. Hopefully it will start today and I will be able to take it on a short drive this weekend.

The 5 speed we bought need a rebuild, and the guy we were going to have work on it broke his foot so its going to be a couple months. The 4 speed is noisy and my dad is nervous about driving it. We are going to try Swepco in the 4 speed in the hopes that it will quiet the trans down long enough to get the 5 speed going.

I am also going to finally start detailing the wagon this week so I am hoping to get some time back in the garage and update this thread a little more.

Snapped a quick pic of the finished(well almost) Biergarten yesterday when I got home. I hope to spend some time around the fire this weekend.

51686244606_f12d26c2fe_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then I finally pulled the trigger on the wagon detail. It looks ok but it did get pretty scratched up in the tornado, I guess shingles hitting it at 130mph will do that. There are a few big scratches on the hood and fenders that I hope I can polish out and fix with Dr Colorchip. After that I am going to coat it with GTechniq Csl. Last night I started the process with a good strip wash to remove the wax, clay bar, and iron remover.

51687563027_358cfbff38_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Tonight I am hoping to tape it off and start on the compounding. Polishing, coating, and all the other stuff should be done by Sunday. In the mean time I decided to use the M3 as my daily. I love this car but the seat killed my back this morning. It may be time to let someone else enjoy it and move on to an E9x M3 or a P-car but we'll see.

Ill get some more pics of the detail process as I work. It is really nice to get some time down in the garage again, I feel like its been way too long. I need to work on the garage itself a little soon, there is some paint that needs touching up and it really could use a deep clean/organization.

The orange chairs are Trex from Lowes.

Worked on compounding the wagon last night. I hit all the heavily damaged areas Meguiars 101 and got most of it out. There is still this one spot on the hood that will not budge but it might be okay after I touch it up with Dr Colorchip.

51690613776_cd70768f2f_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It was a late night in the garage but I should be ready to work on the polishing tonight. I am hoping that will go a little quicker.

It was nice to get some time back in the garage. I cant wait to finish this up and reorganize it.

Spent a little more time on the wagon last night, and finished the polishing. This is the best part of every detail.

51699892585_58caedc870_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Its not perfect but I think its looking pretty good.

51699892805_9ace6894f8_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then I worked on fixing the scratches. Its hard to see in the photos but there was pretty bad scratch here, and the Dr Colorchip covered it pretty well. Its about a 80% fix in my book but I don't want to pay for paintwork and an insurance claim might total it.

51698213367_df43560acf_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After that I took a microfiber towel and a little bit of Sonax Perfect finish and cleaned up the shadowline trim.

51699892750_53e43cf00f_b.jpgUntitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Apparently Dr Colorchip needs to cure for 7 days before I can coat the car but I talked to my buddy at Gtechniq and I may be able to do it sooner. I am thinking probably Thursday or Friday, I will apply the coating.
