I have 4 sets of these http://www.car-dolly.com/index21.html standard model #1016's, and they are great.
I currently have the 944, and the race car on the trailer (see picture) on them, and I can move them around fairly easily by myself. To move the trailer, I just crank up the front (tongue support) wheel and push it around in stages.
I believe that for $165 a set (bought in multiples) they are an excellent value in a USA-made aluminum dolly.

If I had the time, I would do some kind of matrix of all these different units with their pricing.. this has been an ongoing thread for some time and it would be nice to get all the units, their features, and their lifting capability in one place to review.. I too would like to get a set, but which ones?

Dana

I have 2 sets of GoJacks & I love them, they are worth every penny. Just make sure to confirm tire width, I need to order a wider pair new car I just purchased.

I tried the HF skates that Ramblur uses & I did not have good luck moving them. They did not roll for **** & I did grease the casters during assembly.

I also use one set of Car Skates & one set of Car Dolly skates. They are also very good, but do require a jack to use. Also if your floor is cracked be careful because they can hang-up pop out which may damage a rocker panel.

My cars are 2300 lbs. to 3000 lbs & use tires that range from 205 to 285 width.

If you need to move cars often, by the GoJaks they are great.

I have the HF dollies. The go on sale several times a year and I got the set of four for $80.

My son has a street rod project S10 in my garage and it is on the dollies. I need to move it every now and then.

The HF dollies I have are solid enough, but I can barely move a 1968 Firebird, with no engine or transmission, across a smooth floor with the help of an 8 & 10 year old.
Even then, it's everyone push until it gets too far out of line, then move to the side to push it back in the direction you want it to go.

I think it would take at least 3 - 4 adults to be able to easily push the car were you wanted to go.

I've got a set of Car-Dolly brand dollies on the way now & will comment on them when they arrive.

The Car Dollies came in.

I ordered the #1016 "Upgrade" set. They come with the roller axle bearing wheels as well as ball bearing casters.

Featuring:
1. Ball bearing swivel caster wheels.
2. Steel wheel housings.
3. Roller axle bearings.
4. Hard, non-marring wheel material.
5. 6000 lb weight capacity.
6. One brake per dolly.
7. Grease fitting on each wheel.
8. Floor to wheel elevation of 3 1/4”.

Assembly was easy and they look great.
There were only two and a half things that I thought could be better, but they are minor issues.
First, there is only one brake caster per dolly so when you put it together, remember this.
---> First & 1/2, with only 1 brake per dolly you need to pay attention to how you place the dolly under the wheel so that you can reach the brake if needed.

Second, greasing the caster is not the easiest on some. About half of the casters were very easy to grease and took about 3 pumps each. The others would only take about 1 pump and push the grease out of each end of the axle. I think that this problem will solve itself after the dollies are used a bit & "loosen" up.

I put the new Car Dollies under the same car I had the HF dollies under. I had to lean against the car pretty good to get it moving, but it is a huge improvement over the HF brand. After I moved the car around a bit, they seemed to loosen up and I had no problem at all moving the car around by myself.

Overall I would rate them an 8 out of 10.
HF dollies get a 3. :monkey_po

Where:
10 = You lean against it & it starts rolling.
1 = One person can't move it at all.

Back from the dead... a few of the websites in this thread are no longer available.
I was looking on ebay and found a set that looks somewhat similar to the hydraulic ones but at a much lower cost.
The company is T Motorsports
http://www.t-motorsports.com/produc...l-jack-body-shop-tdolly121box/?view=printable

a pair of 12" hydraulic dollys is $119, but I found their store on ebay selling a set of 4 for $149 + 100 shipping.
http://cgi.ebay.com/4-HYDRAULIC-VEH...tZMotors_Automotive_Tools?hash=item5ad4cf607b

They also have other set of (4) 12" auctions with a rolling cart included for $249:
http://cgi.ebay.com/4-HYDRAULIC-CAR...tZMotors_Automotive_Tools?hash=item1c0e07744d

Set of (4) 9" w/ cart, $238 + 109 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-HY...QptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_3275wt_816

Here's a different seller selling what looks like the same dollys w/o the TMS stickers for $275 + 116 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-HY...ptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_5809wt_1201

Here's a different set of (4) 12" hydraulic dollys, Atlas Move-It Dollies $349 + 116 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Movi...QptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_3361wt_802

Also here's a knockoff of GoJak 9" wide with a ratcheting system, pair for $165 + 50 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Go-W...ptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_4466wt_1198

Also they sell just the storage rack for $29 + $29 shipping on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STOR...QptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_2743wt_824

So the best deal is to buy the set of (4) 12" dollys from T motorsports auction and buy their storage rack from a separate auction and save $40 vs buying the 4 dollys & rack as one purchase.

I had a recent conversation with a tow truck operator and he said to only use go jacks. Reason was that they have a ratcheting mechanism rather than hydraulics and are therefore much more durable. The hydraulic ones he's used all eventually leaked rendering them useless.

Update: So far the Ebay "T Motorsports" ones have been serving me well.
The first time I used them, one of them squirted a little fluid out of the release valve and made a lil mess but that was the only problem. My concrete floor is not that smooth so big cars need 2 people to push.
I'm a little nervous about stuff from China, but at 1/4 the price of GoJaks I am happy with them.

I'm hoping to get a set of Go-jacks soon which will be stored until my garage is built. It's a slightly used set of four including a stand for storage for less than $450 (but in GBP£).

I guess I got lucky. I have a set of HF ones and can move my '61 fairlane by myself without that much trouble (all 160 lbs of me).

I have ones from PA, Canada's HF, plus just a bought a set from Canadian Tire. The first set roll easy, the second set even easier. I think it's more to do with the cement than anything. We used to have a set of theose MaxJaks, that slip under the tire and lift the car with a couple pumps of the foot pedal. Now those are the cats *** - but cost much more!

I as well have the second set under my 65 mustang, and they do not roll well at all, have to move front or rear one at a time, casters ****!!!

When referring to the Harbor Freight dollies, which ones are considered ****? These:
http://www.harborfreight.com/media/...ab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_2045.jpg

or these?
http://www.harborfreight.com/media/...eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_643.jpg

Or all of the above? I have a set similar to the second image and they're rubbish for a 1965 Mustang with engine and full interior. I'd like to have something that could handle the load.

I thought I was the only one who couldn't move his car easily with the HF dollies. I just thought my a$$ wasn't big enough (then I thought, no, that can't be it). What I found was that when moving the car with the dollies under the tires, they fought each other and I needed to remove the wheels anyway.

Anyhow, this is what I did...

I ended up framing them together with wood, not the L-iron you see here, but the upshot is, that it made moving the whole car easier (not easy, but easier) and I can raise it as needed using the bottle jacks (that orange lump). Not exactly a lift, but it will have to do.

My buddy has the go-jacks at work - he loves them and I must say they work great - however for me - they are too pricey - so I made a set of my own. They roll OK , but not as nice as I'd like - so I may rework the wheels to add bearings.

They are only about 1/2" off the floor -so you drive right up onto them. At the moment the wheels are locked because I only need to roll that car sideways, but I always figured my next set would be the same way except with a flap of straping to drive onto with the skate - skating away!

I bought Jegs dollies a year ago and like them so well I just bought another set. Great dollies. Heavy duty but move real easy and the casters swivel easy too. My truck just floats around. Go to the Jegs website and look at the video. They have a handle on them, which I didn’t like at first, but now I use the handles.

Resurrecting an old thread here but that's why there's a search function, isn't it?

In this past Sunday newspaper's HF insert, there's a coupon for their Mover's Dolly, Lot No. 93888, which alleges 1000 lb capacity, for $7.98 each, limit 6. 18" long by 12-1/4" wide.

image_11835.jpg

I made a set of wheel skates of a similar design using 250# capacity swivel casters which were on sale at N*******n T**l for $10 a set of four, and they work well enough for my unfinished '48 Chevy. If you only used the casters, this would be a better deal, but the complete dolly looks like it might work as-is.

Plus, you can always use the 20% off coupon and get one for $6.38. :)

Cheers -- Gary

Something else they work for, scaffolding wheels. I put my 4 post on a set and can push it all over without having to lower the lift. A bit unstable like this, but I ratchet strap one post to something and it's fine.
I also put up a pic of filling in the center of the lift with plywood because I can!:)

I missed this post when it first came out, so I'll add my 2 cents to the resurrection. I LOVE my GoJaks. They have a ratcheting mechanism so no seals to fail or leak down. Slide them around the tires, a few pumps with the foot each wheel and push it wherever you want.

I have 2 set of Roll Masters, but alas NMW has been long out of business. But last year I found Roll Glides from Red Hawk Automotive (http://www.redhawkent.com/1433165.html) The design of their dolly looks to be a heavy duty clone of the original Roll Master. I got a set and I am happy with them.

As an added benefit, I move machine tools with theses. Something you cant do with Go Jacks.

I need to get a set for the #73. I would like an American made set, but I think I will look for some second hand. If anyone has an extra set, hit me up with a pm. I am a racer, so I am on a bit of a budget. I'll post in the wanted section as well.

http://www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-1500-lb-capacity-vehicle-dollies-67338.html

Just picked these up last week. On sale right now and with my 20% off coupon and the wife had one too, we ended up at $55.00 per set out the door. Need to build a "dollie" to store and move the dollies now. Should work perfect for my 74' Bronco, 4 wheelers, Polaris Ranger, farm implements, etc.

I was a little disappointed with the set I bought. They don't roll or swivel easily. I guess the chinese have something against using grease. I spent a couple of hours disassembling each caster and greasing the **** out of them. That improved their performance considerably, but they are still **** over rough surfaces.
