I was just about to yell 'WHERE ARE THE PICTURES???' until I read your last sentence:D

But who am I kidding? I'm such a slacker - I still need to get the the picture of my Craftsman circular saw up on your thread - maybe I'll remember to pull it down from the rafters tomorrow.

Great job on those boxes...what a score. Love the theme you are pursuing with you garage.

Shaun

Thanks Shaun but the only thing I did to the box on the right in the picture was pull out the credit card LOL. Soon as I saw it it was mine if I had to to borrow on the home equity loan again LOL.

When I installed those new wall cabinets I wanted to use my old tools. For drilling the holes I used my vintage Dunlap 1/4" drill with a keyless chuck and my vintage drill bits in the "Crown" case. For installing the lag bolts I used my Craftsman 3/8" drive speed handle, almost as fast as a cordless power driver but better control since I can feel the pressure to turn it.

A Craftsman radial arm saw popped up on Craigslist on my road just two miles away. Advertised for $25. I really don't need it but went to check it out. When I saw it had the cabinet with two drawers I had to have it LOL. Plus it had the casters. The humidity has gotten the to raise/lower mechanism and it needs some cleaning and PB Blaster to unstick it. It also came with a radial saw clamp, length gauge and miter in the original boxes. It's a little later than I usually like but hey it was cheap. I didn't even try to dicker on the price but I only had $20's and he didn't have change so he let me have it for $20. It's model number 113.19770. I will get the recall kit and put it to work!

My major advantage is I am an early retiree. 26 years with the Air Force, retired 4 years ago, longest job since was two weeks as substitute teacher for a high school body shop class that a friend taught. I also do "background extra" work for the movies they shoot in Shreveport area, been in about 14 so far. I check Craigslist several times a day and do the Estate sale/garage sale thing every Friday morning. Most guys have to work on Friday mornings, that's when I have found some of my best deals.

Bluebolt I love your boxes! There was a two-chest red/brown like the one you have on the left on ebay over the weekend (in my area) that I really wanted to get - but it eventually went over my budget. Sure like the looks of that one. When I get impatient, I spend more than I want to, rather than waiting for the "you ****" deals to come to me. . . .

I know what you mean Bluebolt. My Electronic Radial Arm saw I bought in 81 has been unused and piled with stuff since I built my house in 91. It just came
with legs but my brothers had the 2 drawer base so I swapped them before I sold his saw. I almost have a place for it now. It's going to need a good going thru.

Great find on the boxes! I have two sets of craftsman boxes the one one the left is a set from 1980 and the roller box on the right is from 1973, I'm looking for a top chest for the 1973 roller, it doesn't have to be a 1973 but i definitely want it to be gray and red to match the bottom and would like it to be in good condition, any one have one lying around for sell?

Stopped at a local flea market on the way to my Mustang and Ford club meeting. First I picked up a 1940ish Craftsman top and bottom roller for $45. Kinda rough but has that cool art deco styling. It's still loaded on the truck, pics tomorrow. Then I picked up a little Waterloo handcarry tool box for $15. I had taken a quick look inside and saw a vintage metal Craftsman drill angle adapter and a Craftsman razor knife with the Crown logo and figured that was good enough. Finally I found a 1940ish Craftsman machinists box with some tools for $20, the box is missing the front panel and one drawer.

I got the boxes home and went throught them. The Waterloo box had a handful of USA sockets and wrenches, a Sears magnetic tool bar and some Irwin wood bits.

The machists box had some vintage Craftsman knife and hacksaw blades in the package, vintage Craftsman screwdriver bits, some Dremel bits, 4 USA made toolbox latches, a 1/2" and a 3/4" Greenlee punch, 2 S-K vintage knurled sockets and other odds and ends. Anybody got a drawer and a front panel for the machinists box? No slides on this one, just pull the drawers right out.

Here's the Craftsman roller and top I picked up for $45. The bottom has some extra metal added and the wrong casters.

Wow, you scored a FANTASTIC deal on that top and bottom chest. Phenomenal. I probably got mine for a little under 10 times that:)

I bet it will make a fabulous restore as well. Just be sure to take it easy on those sprayed over tags. Some guys have had good luck with boiled painted over tags, but it would definitely pay to do your research so you could salvage them. I'm betting drilling out the logos to then reattach once everything is repainted would work well.

Congrats!

Picked up some more mid 60's vintage Craftsman power tools yesterday. $300 for all three about 100 miles away. Back roads of NE Texas, would have been a nice drive if it wasn't cold and raining LOL.

Craftsman 113.24261 bandsaw, complete including original accessory stand, 3/4 HP 1725 Craftsman Crown label motor. Tried to plug it in and realized it was set up for 220, need to rewire it for 110.

Craftsman 113.22541 9" disc / 6" x 48" belt sander. Has the pedestal stand upper part still bolted on and the motor mount for the post but no base or post. The fence is missing, I can still get a new one from Sear Parts but will probably make my own. Motor is a Craftsman 1/2 hp 3450 rpm motor. I have the sanding disc but it is not in the picture.

Craftsman 6 1/8" jointer / planer. The data palte is missing but I believe it's 113.20621. Missing the blade guard. The pedestal base has an entire corner cracked off. The motor is a Craftsman Crown label but the ID plate is gone, looks identical to the 1/2 HP motor on the sander. The motor feels kinda "rough" too when you spin it.

Alright I have enough projects time to stay home and get some work done and quit going to flea markets and estate sales for awhile!

I need to get these tools operational. Today I worked on the planer, I actually have two identical ones. The one in this picture I am going to use parts of the pedestal base to build a new one for my other one which is in much nicer shape. The cracked base with a corner missing is just not usable so I need to fabricate a new base. Height of old one was 28" to top of tubes plus the top pieces that bolted to the planer. The tubes are exactly 19" apart and are 2 3/4" diameter, same as a 150 drill press. The tubes were rusted in place on to the base and I had to cut them off short so I need to factor that into my plan for a new one. I want the base to be a bit larger than the old one for stability and I want it to have casters and adjustable feet. And looking decent too LOL.

I have various pieces of 3" square tubing. Time to start fabricating!

Well obstacle #1, I have a lot of large hole saws, 2 1/2", 2 5/8", 3" but no 2 3/4". Have to go pick one up tommorrow.

My 3" square tube is about .120" wall thickness which works out to 11 gauge tubing. Should be plenty strong for this application.

The old base was about 31" long by 11 1/2" wide. I am going to widen it out just a bit to 15" which is about the width of the jointer itself with the pulley sticking out the side along with the upper metal plate and handle right by it.

The base will be in an "I" configuration with the long piece about 34" long. The jointer itself is about 41" long with the fence handle at one end and the knob at the other. The fence knob and fence could easily be removed for easier storage. The short legs will be underneath the long piece so the adjustable feet will be close to the floor. The casters wil lbe mounted to the long piece and with 3" casters everthing should be in the right proportion.

Well it's too late to cut metal, the neighbors would not be happy!

Well I got version 1.0 of the new base done. Fairly simple but quickly learned drilling through the welded seam *****. Hard on drill bits. The long bottom piece has 2 3/4 holes drilled in the top to put the tubes into and the bottom has has 2 1/4 holes drilled into it so I can access the bolts that hold the tubes at a perfect 90 degree angle. Not as cool as the original base but much sturdier. Will see how this works and then do paint later.

Have been looking for an older Craftsman router at the garage sales for an upcoming project but no luck. So I bought one off Ebay tonight for $40 bucks with shipping. Here's a pic from the Ebay ad. Now I will probably find one nicer and cheaper LOL. I know the picture is small, it's an older USA one with the "you guessed it" Crown logo.

Did you find another router? What project are you working on? I am jealous of all you guys finding the old Craftsman tool box sets. I haven't seen any for sale in my area. I have even tried SearchTempest and looked as far as 300 miles with no luck.

The EBay router is my first router ever. Just got it, will post better pics. And just found another early 70's Craftsman grey/red box bottom roller. Full of old Harley parts.

Sweet deal on the bottom roller! Old Harley parts can pay for a lot of Crown tools - unless you have an old Harley and then it saves you money.

LOL I am not getting the Harley parts. Buddy of mine into old hot rods and Harleys has been using it for parts storage since the 70's. We are looking at doing a trade on it.

So I am still working backwards timewise. This is what I found today at garage sales and pawn shops before I got home and saw the box leaning against the front door.

The first sale I went to had lots of tools but nothing I really needed. However the little restored Wilton vise for $6 was hard to pass up.

The next sale had lots of tools but not much I needed. The large open Craftsman wrenchs for $3 each were a good deal though.

At the next sale some nice old ladies had a few tools. From front to back, Plomb wooden handle scredriver and socket, Klein wire strippers, unknown wrench, Blackhawk socket, Bonney sockets, long extension and sliding bar on the left, Wright sockets on the right and the socket rack, mirror, all the sockets and the Crown label box are all Craftsman. $14 total.

I havent stopped at the pawn shops in about a month so hit those on the way home. At the second I found the following Craftsman: 1" =V= combo wrench I need to help complete my vintage set, a yellow nutdriver I also needed for a set and 1/4 flex driver. $10 total

I wanted to go to a particular palce to eat lunch and I knew they had opened up a new place nearby. When I got there found a pawn shop next door I had never been too. After lunch I stopped in and found a Craftsman 1/4" ratchet with the "V" lever sitting out on top of the tools just waiting for me. Picked up that and a stubby Craftsman phillips. 75 cents for both!

Finally stopped at the last pawn shop on the way home. Not much but found the last Craftsman nutdriver I needed, the brown handle 7/16". The counter guys were sitting down eating. I asked them how much and they said just take it!

Good haul! I had to tell you that I picked up a nice vintage Craftsman Industrial 1.5hp router on Friday. She is a beautiful full aluminum model 515.25030. I did overspend on it. I gave $50, but I can't find a nice old router around here for a lesser price. I knew you were looking for one, so I smiled when I got it.

Yea I really overspent today. Bought a 1974 gray with red drawers 12 drawer top and 9 drawer bottom along with a 4 drawer late 70's red with black drawers 4 drawer intermediate chest. Had a few tools in it but not much. Price, well lets just say I could have bought a new low end Craftsman ball bearing top and bottom for about the same money. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow. The top box is not in my 1973/1974 catalog, the closest one is the ten drawer box, where there is one deep small drawer in the drawer there are three in mine. Emblem in different place too. It did come with all three sets of keys though!

Hit one other sale, picked up few odds and ends there, still have to go through it.

Havn't had time to work on the garage but did pick up a few more pieces.

Picked up a early 70's Craftsman bottom roller toolbox along with a later 1990's top for $60 for both at local garage sale. Sold top for $40 on Craigslist :). Repaint in the future.

Picked up this early 80's USA made Craftsman 12" band saw model 113.243310. Now I don't really need another bandsaw since this makes #4 BUT this one has the factory speed reducer accessory model #113238961. Reduces blade speed approximately 22 to 1! Has two belts and a chain to reduce speed. Current plan is to use the speed reducer for my 60's bandsaw so I can do metal and sell the 80's saw.

Awesome, I have that same saw including the speed reducer! I had the saw for a while and bought the speed reducer from a guy at school back in the late 80's. That was my go to metal cutter before I picked up the green HF4x6.

Well I did my annnual Pate swap meet pilgrimmage in Fort Worth with my friends from Slick 60's, an internet forum for 1961-1966 Ford trucks. Took a LOT of extra tools I had and was busy selling instead of walking around and buying for a change. Did quite well selling tools :) I did walk around a little bit and found a few deals. Picked up a 1975 Craftsman top box for $40, a 3 wheel bandsaw with motor for $35 and a 1963 Craftsman bottom box for $40. I love the handle on the bottom cabinet! On Sunday as we were driving out we drove by a few vendors still there and I scored a 4" Wilton Bullet vise with a 1-70 code on the slide. A bit beat up, retainer screws wrong or missing, end cap missing, but works smooth, jaw inserts look good. Asking price was $75 but I got it for $40!

And here's my pictures, late as usual. I have about $480 total spent on these boxes and tools.
The Snap On in picture 7 mostly got sold at Pate. No exact figure but figure I probably got $100 plus out of that drawer.

Sigh, I am truly addicted to garage sales lately. Hit a few sales Friday, drove 30 miles for sale that started at 7 AM, got there about five minutes before, very few tools left. Went to another that had a lot of woodworking tools, mostly Harbor Freight suff. Some 70's and 80's Craftsman but nothing I didn't already have. Picked up a few odds and ends including a Hazet Assistent for $10. It was an early one with the single middle tray and the lower case "a" in Hazet. My VW buddy offered me $60 sight unseen. He grabbed it so fast I never got pictures LOL. It had been repainted and the casters weren't great so I think it was a reasonable price.

So heading home, 1/4 mile from my place and I see a sign for a yard sale not far from me. It wasn't in the papers or Craiglist. So I figured i would check it out quick but figured out anything good would be long gone. Get there, not much tools. I ask guy if anything else and he says there is some old tools in the back shed he had never brought out. Find a few older Craftsman pieces when he mentions there is a whole wooden box full of tools. End up buying the box and tools I had already picked out for $30 plus $5 each for two old Emerson fans, both of which worked.

The box was made of plywood but was put together nicely. The corners had strengthening angle pieces and a top tray with nicely done dividers. Craftsman in the box is pic 3 and includes an underlined Craftsman angle tool with redish bakelite plastic handle, a Craftsman "60" hacksaw, a Dunlap red handled keyhole saw, Craftsman chalk line, drill bit, "push" screwdriver and an "expansion" drill bit in a crumbly "Crown" pouch.

In the picture of the tray is a Stanley hand drill and small draw knife on the left, a Lufkin divider, Millers Falls plane and drill bits on the top right, Irwin drill bits below that, a Pabst Blue Ribbon bottle opener and 3 Stanley angle tools of different sizes in the lower right corner.

The last picture is miscellaneous tools the coolest of which is the Proto red handled drill, the angle of the drill chuck can be changed, the handle angle can be changed and the knob on the handle comes off so you can store bits inside. The hammer/pry bar combo is a Bridgeport, the dividers are Lufkin, the ice pick is Coca Cola, the big hand drill is a Worth and the mini tubing cutter and flaring tools are Imperial.

What a great Thanksgiving! The gentleman I got the newer bandsaw from called and said he found the manual for the speed reducer! He scanned it and emailed it to me, will be a big help! Since I know there was some interest in this speed reducer I have added the 7 pertinet pages.
Thank you so much for the images of this manual! This will be so helpful, as I just picked this bandsaw up. I went ahead and combined all of these into a PDF for anyone else that may find this useful.
