Good, they all loaded. Any ways this is the slh80 I was asking for info yesterday. Did some trading on it, a little more then probably should have but I am happy and they say that's all that matters. Right? Lol. The grip is a little warn and the cover.plate shows some use but its a tool not a diamond. Lol. This replaced my Mac vr15.

I definitely believe the 3/8 dual 80's will be next on the list. Thanks for looking!

Spend a few bucks and get a new soft grip handle and you're good to go.

You can hate the prices, but you can't hate on those Dual 80's. They deliver.

One thing to watch with the early 1/2" dual 80's, the cover screws are known to loosen up. Many have luck pulling the screws and putting lock tight on them and never have a problem again. I for the life of me could not keep the bolts tight on my 24" flex head. Even 680 bearing mount didn't hold them. Blew the guts out I don't know how many times because if I didn't check it every time, they were loose. SO changed the design with screws threw the top because it was a known problem. When the new style came out, my dealer replaced the ratchet under warranty for me. Outside of that, they are great ratchets and you very well may not have the problems I had.

This one was priced right. Did some trading for it so I don't have any upfront cash into it.

Can you link me the new handle? And possibly how to? Is it straight forward slip off press on?

Thank you VERY much for that. Is there a way to date these? None the less I will check the cover plate to check the tightness, or lack thereof if the set screws.

Part No:

F80-2 1 Coverplate 6.50 USD
FH936-12 1 Handle, Soft Grip 10.80 USD

To replace handle bring pot of water up to boil on stove. Dip handle into water for some time to soften.
Then remove handle by grabbing hot handle with towel.
If handle is difficult, repeat.
If still difficult, repeat heating and then place ratchet in vice and gently pry off handle with two small pry bars.

For new handle, I drop in same hot water for a couple of minutes, then pull and install on ratchet.
If it's fussy, use a small soft head hammer rubber tipped to coax handle on while it's warm/hot.

It's a no muss no fuss process. Except the missus may get mad about putting dirty tools in the pots and pans.

LOLZ.

BTDT.

:)

Yes.
There is a single digit year date stamp number in a funky font stamped into the recessed ring near the part number in the chome of the handle above the soft grip.

It will be some where from from 0 to 9. The font determines which decade.

I got bitten too. Just bought a brand new S80A dual 80 for $55. I like your long handle with soft grip which mine doesn't come with.

Thanks a lot, again lol.

As far as date, all's I see the model number, patent number and something that looks like a hexagon with two semi circles inside. 0 maybe? 2000-2009?

Geoff, thanks! I hope so as well.

Old tools, wow, that's a screaming deal IMO.

Maven, those look very nice. I really hope to add some 3/8 by next summer.

If you know someone who deals with a snap on guy on a regular basis give it to him to exchange for the new style and get a brand new shiny one

Here's the date chart:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14884

2006 was first Dual 80 issue unless they made them in late 2005 for 2006 sales ramp up.

2006 and early to mid 2007 had USA stamp on head.
By 2008 it was gone.

Actually, that's the exact chart I found. Lol.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately I don't know anyone that deals with a snap on truck, or any truck for that matter.

I pulled the handle off of a swap meet find last weekend. Took longer in hot water than I thought. In fact, I was about to give up and say the previous owner glued it on. Next try it budged a little, 5 min later came off with little effort. 10-15 minutes once the water was a rolling boil. Replacement should be here this week from Snap-on, fast shipping and free just for the handle.

In my house, we know that pots and pans that are retired from kitchen service are sent to the garage. There they get used for all sorts of things like this (or draining gas from a carb about to be cleaned, cleaning paint brushes in, etc).

If you are looking for the 1/2 handle then dont order the FH936-12 that is for the 3/8 handle

the part for the 1/2 handle is SH936-12

SH936-12G is the green handle
SH936-12O is the orange handle

Correct.

Derp.

For som reason I thought the Op had an F80HL and not an S80
.
Yes, what I listed was for the 3/8".
If you have an S80 (1/2" drive), then you need the above.

My bad.
