We got sand delivered and went to work spreading it out along with the rigid foam 2 feet around around the perimeter. It's now ready for mud.
String lines were set as guides for the zip strip. I also setup an additional wifi camera inside the garage to get timelapse photos and video.

The interference from the metal siding caused the signal strength of the inside camera to go from strong to very poor so I won't be surprised if I don't get a ton of quality footage. I think I'll add an outdoor wireless access point in the next couple of weeks to provide a stronger signal to these site cameras.

What size are your three openings? I did not see you mention that anywhere.

This is going to be a killer building!
Thanks. Oh yeah, I probably forgot to mention that. Two 10x10's and a 12x14Ft. the 10x10's will have high lift tracks. All 3 doors will have jackshaft openers. I saved money and got a little more security by adding plain lite windows in the garage doors instead of adding actual windows. The garage doors will also be insulated.

I was fortunate to be able to pick up a signal from the house at a window in the mezzanine of mine. So I added a mesh router there for inside the building. That steel skin just kills any wifi or cell signal from outside.

It's slab day. I watched the slab being poured remotely while I was at work and saved snapshots to post. It was about 32 yards, 4 trucks, and one pumper setup. They started before 8AM and finished about 6PM. 4 inch slab with fiber mesh and zip strip for crack control.

As they got closer to the camera I watched how they installed the zip strip. It was pushed down into the mud where the string line had been and then the the top plastic strip was pulled off so that the finished product was buried just below the surface. A trowel on an extension pole then covered the area and smoothed it out.

Me and my 5yo foreman are making a test concrete pad in the backyard. We plan on salt etching it and taping it off so that we can test different Delta Dye stain combinations.

Floor looks great! Any chance of a close up photo of the Zip strip area?

Jay
So far this is the most visible seam.
AAF47D91-E738-41BC-AF7B-4C8A260D99F8.jpeg
You can see here where the strip stopped and physics took over.
5ECFB95D-80EC-4E56-B6D3-A725999704F8.jpeg
It was difficult to find any other seams. Maybe they will present themselves as time goes on. The zip strip creates a hairline crack that goes to the bottom of the slab. You set the depth based on the thickness of the slab.

My foreman and I poured an 8x8 ft test slab a few weeks ago and waited awhile before etching it.

The goal was to test out 8 different colors from Legacy Industrials Deltadye collection. Seeing actual examples of various color combinations on the internet proved to be difficult so we bit the bullet and made our own palette.

Tobacco road is the base color here. Terra Cotta is the accent on the bottom

Next up is Walnut Brown as the base an Terra Cotta in the upper corner as an accent.

Cola is the base here and Terra Cotta is the accent at the bottom

Terra Cotta as a base can be seen in the triangle configuration

I also tried white, gray and crimson but those colors didn't produce any measurable differentiation in color so I didn't post pics of them.
So far Walnut Brown and Terra Cotta are the winners. I still have black available to spray on.

Build is looking good!

Tell me more about this delta dye product. It's just a colouring product for your concrete?
Yes its a water based stain that's an alternative to acid staining. I salt etched the pad so I can test the final look with Polyurea Sealer. I'm waiting for a day above 50 degrees to apply the sealer. I could be waiting for a while .

Yeah, it's pretty nice for them to have that equipment so they can make really long seamless runs. I like the walnut stain too, out of the test samples you did.

Thanks. I'm guilty of not seeing beyond my focal point with this build. The down time between progressive steps is a reminder to see what others are doing.

Story time. I'm a shiftworker so 50% of my time is spent working nights. I've got a 4hr roundtrip commute into Seattle. It ranks as one of the worst cities for potholes. I was heading into downtown to catch a ferry home after finishing a night shift. I wasn't paying attention and hit one of the notorious ones. It's actually a drain grate in the street that has sank over time and been patched in it's sunken state rather than lifting it and patching. The suspension in my car nearly bottomed out and I heard the sound of metal scraping. I had a strong feeling that I was gonna start losing pressure in the passenger front tire.
I got on the ferry and checked the pressure and sure enough the tire was flat after 20 minutes. I commute to work in a Porsche Panamera GTS.
582345C4-6AE0-4F70-9419-84789B9F5550.jpeg
They do not have factory spare tires. Instead you get a can of goop, which I would never use because of the mess it makes afterwards, and an onboard compressor. Sure enough the rim was flared out and a bubble formed in the sidewall.
B47007E3-E218-412C-A53C-54793576B40D.jpeg
I inflated the tire twice on the ferry alone to ensure that I could at least drive off without assistance and got the first available appointment at a tire shop about 30 miles from the ferry dock. I ended up reinflating the tire once more on the trip over to the shop and once there, the tech told me that they couldn't fix the rim. I then had them over inflate the tire so I could get home. So after about 4 hours of crummy day sleep I went back to work and started looking for a replacement. That particular rim was not readily available to be shipped without a high dealer pricetag dragging behind it. So I decided to research what a new set would cost me.
5 weeks later these showed up on my porch.

They are Vossen custom concave hybrid forged wheels made onsite in FL. The color is Anthracite.

Now is one of those times where I really wish I had the garage setup and ready to use.
Ever since we bought the house, most of my detailing equipment has been packed away in a large shed. All of the vehicles have been sitting outside in the elements day and night and I've given ONR(Optimum NoRinse) bird baths on a gravel drive. I considered it a test of my work and the ceramic coatings that are on all of the vehicles.
Well I took over some space in the attached garage and dug out enough stuff to at least treat the new wheels. First I prepped the surface with Carpro eraser to make sure I had a clean surface to start. I then applied CQuartz's wheel specific ceramic coating, let them flash, and wiped them down.

Here are a few pics with them wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. After the garage is functional I'll get the vehicles decontaminated and post proper pics.

It's a bummer that the OEM wheel took such a hit, but man...what an upgrade. Those look awesome. Have you checked in to having it repaired? Just so you could have a spare set or could maybe have a full set to sell. One of my 20s on my old Audi A6 was in in similar shape and a local shop made it look like new.

I've always like the Panameras.

Don’t know if you have heard but there is a way to file a claim with the city for damages caused by potholes. Seems to me that rim would qualify :scared: Although I don’t know all the details of the program. We sure do have some exquisite potholes around here....

I'm definitely impressed. The new wheels are lighter and stronger. I didn't look to see if another shop could repair them. The independent shop I use is a Porsche club sponsor so I let them have the old set. They are staggered F/R turbo OEM wheels.
For me the GTS is a sporty daily driver for those of us over 6'2". It was designed to carry four 6'3" people in race inspired comfort. That's why it has the like it or hate it roofline. I've sat in the back in complete comfort for a 3hr road trip while my wife drove. She has a diesel Audi Q7 and I can't last more than an hour in that back seat. I got it optioned with all of the a la carte options except the ceramic brakes. 90,000 miles of smiles.

I hadn't heard about the program. I'll look into it. Thanks Jay. This particular depression has been there at least as long as I've worked in the Puget Sound Area(2yrs). I'll see what the requirements are.

Thanks. The gen 1 raptor in the background is my other pride and joy. I've got a list I'm working down that's similar to your Pontiac with the stroker. I'll showcase that one later on.

The build hasn't had any updates for a few weeks. I'm still waiting on garage doors. The Pole Barn contractor came back last week to address a flagged framing inspection item. Still waiting on garage doors. Once those are in their work will be complete. The next contractor will handle bringing in the utilities, framing and finishing the loft and inside electrical. I mentioned in an earlier post that they had some engineering and material supply difficulties. Those appear to be resolved so we should start seeing movement again on the project in the next week or two.
I did get some time to get a few small projects done. The wife's greenhouse is up. She backed away from the idea of tearing down my 2 sheds for the moment. Knowing her, she stopped the scorched earth plan so that she could plot a full spousal occupation of my territory.😱
7C625AEE-BD9C-4790-8EB2-D378028FF14E.jpeg
I organized the small shed. I was tired of getting hit in the head with a rake whenever. I went to pull out an edger. For the
Californians watching this thread, the battery chainsaw and trimmer are buried in the back. The 7hp Stihl is up front because necessity is the mother of all inventions.😉

I cold smoked some cheddar cheese blocks with hickory chips. I've incorporated cherry wood into my meat smoking up here but the bayou in me says that some things require pecan, mesquite, or hickory.
182C13FD-2F23-4911-9F66-7C4EAFFD0618.jpeg
I also installed another outdoor wifi access point in this tree to overcome the metal siding interference to the temp camera inside the new building. One tree is growing around the smaller tree so I used the cavity to conceal the wiring and the access point itself. You can't see the hardware without getting close up and looking from my camera's viewpoint. I'll move it to the new building once it's done.

Glad to hear your delays may be behind you. My wife's greenhouse takes up half of the apron I had poured (for other reasons) and then some. But she's using and enjoying it quite a bit. I need to cold smoke some more cheese myself, before it gets too hot. Do you do other type of cheese too, or just cheddar?

Daily looks great on the new wheels, and PS4S are such a great tire!

Fun fact, a buddy of mine used to be the marketing director for Vossen, and he is actually a Seattle native. Now works for a company called Rotiform out of LA.

Cheddar is the staple that seems to get used up the most. I'll also smoke harder cheeses like parmesan, softer cheeses like mozzarella and everything in between. Every once in a while I will smoke butter and it makes veggies and steaks taste incredible. I've never smoked salt myself but have used it in cooking.

Thanks the tires are definitely an upgrade from the all season Pirelli's I had previously. I just Checked out Rotiform's website. Definitely some nice wheels in the gallery.

Not sure if you mentioned it earlier in your thread but are you building a mezzanine with that material? Nice amount of PNW mud you have at your place, will probably be there until mid July :bounce:

Yep. That material is to get started on the shop and mezzanine/loft above. It will be 26x28ft. That mudhole makes me wanna turn some of the land into a swamp buggy course! There's certainly plenty of water available to fill it.

I remember doing the underground tour in Seattle and being like "oh, so THIS is why the roads are so bad!"

They are some of the worst. Like, there are Seattle road surfaces that people from Detroit would comment on.

The freeze thaw cycle exacerbates the problem so the transition out of winter cold temps leads to deeper potholes. Are there any BC cities that come close to what you saw in Seattle?

Thanks to Jayman I found the city damage claim website and filed to get my expenses reimbursed. We'll see what happens.
