So who has a K2 plus? I have an X1C with over 3000 hours on it that is showing it's age and with the firmware updates Bambu is pushing I am going to start moving away from them. The K2 is the size I am looking for and has the CFS(ams clone) and is priced right at $1500.

I am also not happy with the games bambu is playing with pricing and blaming it on tariffs. They were modifying pricing and increasing beyond tariff percentages when things were still only speculated and not in place. I am aware trading bambu for creality is just one chinese for another but I am willing to gamble the $1500 on the K2 that seems to have more ability to modify it's firmware and is less likely to have walls put up around it.

I have multiple X1C's that are running in the farm and I've firewalled all of them from the internet so I can continue to use Orcaslicer on them. My only worry with the K2 is the inability to use Orcaslicer for multicolor as from what I've seen that may require running the creality slicer.

Two of my sibs have K2+ printers. So far they seem happy but I didn't have a lot of other info to go on. Neither are heavy users abd both had minor getting to know the printer issues.

Had a complaint on a print profile I uploaded a long time ago. Its got a couple hundred downloads and no one else has reported this issue. I've seen it before on a model I was prototyping, but I eliminated it with completely different settings, and I don't remember specifically what fixed it. Can anyone better explain what would cause this? Commenter claims to have seen it on multiple printers for this model, but it clears up and finishes the print fine after a couple layers like this. I'm questioning the filament, but it *should* be PLA, nothing special.

I've got a K2 Plus.

It's still shipping at the original price (probably for as long as the stock already in the US holds out).

K2's "Creality Slicer" is just a fork of Orcaslicer. From what I've seen, you can use the CFS with Orcaslicer. Creality slicer is good enough out of the box for me to drop Cura.

There are a couple of warts that you should be aware of before you pull the trigger.
1) The thing ships fully assembled, and there is a pretty good chance it will arrive with something awry (because hey, it's 150 pounds).

On mine, the bed standoffs were broken on one side (both of them):
PXL_20250329_160951033.MP.jpg

I do have a replacement part for it on hand, but I went ahead and fixed it, because I'm used to that Creality Life™ where you're as likely to burn your house down as get a reasonable print. I'm unlikely to change out the part for the new one until I have another failure that requires me to tear it down to that point again. Drilled out the hole for the standoff, threaded the broken bit to full length (m5-0.8, IIRC), then counter-sunk the bottom to accept a short machine screw.

2) the extruder can get finicky. I think unless you put adequate thermal grease on the nozzles, they can get some serious heat creep that will jam the extruder. I fought that for a while, but I think I have it licked now.

Kinda looks like a clog. Temp for their PLA might need to be higher to flow properly. They could also try to slow down the speed and see if that changes anything. Their PLA could also be ****.

I've seen some variations of infill that look like that.

Not getting political, but in the current economic environment, I thought it might be nice to share this list that Tom's Hardware put together of US-based filament manufacturers.

And I finally got my Tetris game (thanks @lilscorpion for the analogy) perfect on my first metric drawer:

I'm still working on my OpenSCAD script to generate some flat trays for my crowfoot and flare crowfoot sockets.

Excellent organization. The dimensions & tolerances are spot-on!

Unfortunately, even without the tariffs, I didn't see anything U.S. based close to $10/kg that most overseas manufacturers offer (pre-tariff).

That's certainly a consideration, if you're buying in quantity that drives that kind of price per kg.

I do most of my shopping on Amazon ($15-20/kg), so I was looking at just not shuttling all of my money to the second richest guy in the world.

I have had success getting that price per kg on 1-2 spools before. A lot are on Amazon or eBay, and fairly well known name brands like Sunlu

I printed a tulip figurine using a 'fuzzy skin' effect. Not really sure what to expect I loaded her up with PETG Rainbow Clear and walked away. At first, the tulip appeared to have major stringing issues. However, on closer inspection the entire surface was textured and fuzzy. Really fuzzy. The effect is amazing. The texture feels & looks amazing. The fuzzies are what really make it. Approx. 6" tall.

If you like it, that's what counts!
I don't think the stringing is from the fuzzy skin though, the pics of the model on makerworld are fuzzy skin. What brand of filament is that? the colour is quite nice.

Other models showed the same stringing effect, although it's quiet reduced using PLA.

The filament is IEMAI Rainbow Clear. When combined with fuzzy skin it provides a totally different look. Here's some earlier prints sliced and printed. No additional effects.

Going to design a couple gridfinity holders for myself. First one was for my Gearwrench 3/8" deep set. There is actually an existing model for this exact set, but it was a bit wasteful in height and the spacing was kind of odd, so i made some new ones from scratch.

Also found this really nice modular Wera setup. The built in slots for saving space is genius by the designer:

Plier drawer is also starting to come together:

I started improving my tool box organization with Gridfinity over the last week. I finally finished one drawer. I'm moving on to the SAE drawer next...

I also printed a full-size Master Sword for fun. My kid thinks it's his, but really, I printed it for me

PSA: If you are using Orca Slicer 2.3.0, have a Bambu X1C and use the cloud services, don't do the latest printer firmware update. Bambu's attempts to secure their platform have disrupted third party developers like Orca, at least temporarily.

I'm not a huge fan of Bambu's cloud services but they are unavoidable for me in some situations. Truth be told, LAN mode isn't all that great either, compared to some other systems out there. Qidi, for all its gotchas, as an example, has been very solid for me over the time I have been using my XPlus.

This is part of my reason to move my major operations away from bambu. Being forced back to bambu studio, or to another mode of verification is not conducive to large scale. If it was a single printer and I was just a hobbyist it wouldn't be a big deal.

I have a K2 plus coming, and 5 prusa XL's coming. I am less than enthralled with what I had to spend on the XL's but it is what it is to make the parts I want to make I need at minimum a 2 head machine. The H2D almost could be the ticket but I don't think I'll be migrating back toward bambu anytime soon.

I think in the next 6 months to a year I'll probably design another ground up toolchanger and scale from there. It seems like a lifetime ago when I was building printers from scratch to meet my demands and then bambu came along and it changed the entire work flow, but here I am moving back.

I recently got a couple of the four color Anycubic Kobra S1 combos for around $600 each, they are like a clone of the Bambu printers we have at work but way less expensive. They seem to work pretty great so far, been running them both nonstop for a couple of weeks without any issues at all. Looks like they are $649 now. Also the Anycubic K3 combo can be bought right now for $329, its a open frame bed slinger but that is nuts for a fast printing four color setup. They are both currently shipping out of US warehouses, mine only took three days to receive.

Bit of a mess, but upgraded from an X1C to the H2D. Really happy with the upgrade. I mainly print ASA/ABS custom parts, so having the heated enclosure is really nice. I've definitely noticed a nice quality increase when going from the X1C to the H2D on materials that do better with a heated enclosure.
