Dan,

Here’s a current thread if you haven’t seen it for hanging garden tools.

Just found it last night and got a couple ideas I'm mulling over. Thanks!

.......She has spent the GDP of a small developing country there

........You didn't stand a chance in that place Dan..... Resistance is futile.
So true. I wasn't even in there to begin with. I was parked out front in my truck with our 5 & 9 year old grand daughters but it was taking too long, they got bored so said they needed to use the bathroom. We were drawn in and my girlfriend was already checking out. The minute she saw me she said she wanted me to see something I KNEW the hook had been set and I was being reeled in.

Actually, I like these pots and they ARE a good deal but of course we didn't need to spend more a few days before Christmas particularly since I'D just spent 3 bills taking the girls to Old Navy for some play clothes. We have clothes in their room at our house but they are growing SO fast none of them fit when they come over every few weeks. Plus being 4 years apart hand me downs never QUITE fit the younger one! Still, "Papa" will give them anything their hearts desire - I just don't go out of my way to say it out loud.

PS: To those rolling their eyes at the Papa statement. I re-read what I wrote. They are sweet little girls. They say please and thank you at all times. I get hugs and kisses without asking and they take my hand in parking lots and crossing the street. Our pups love them and they love them right back. Plus they are the daughters of my own "baby" my now 41 year old daughter, the light of my life. What else is money for if not to use for your loved ones? I have been truly blessed.

About THREE WEEKS AGO(!!) I was watching tv and a deal popped up for a 40% mark down on an electric bike.
I admit I don't have any need for one. I have a mountain bike and a carbon fiber frame roadie bike neither I ride much anymore. My fat old *** oughta be riding the heaviest steel single speed bike ever made! And riding it a lot!

Anyway, for some reason the site didn't want to accept my debit card. I tried several times and finally gave up. Didn't think any more about it. Impulse purchase quashed..... I thought.

Today this showed up!

I'm going to carefully unbox it and see how much is to be assembled. If not much I will assemble, ride it a bit and see if I'll keep or return it.

PS: There are SO many brands of eBikes and I don't recognize ANY of them. It's not like the days of Schwinn, Huffy, etc. Yes, REALLY showing my age ha ha

The box this one came in might be sturdier than the last shed.
So true, so true. It's so heavy they put plastic reinforcing things in the sides so you can lift it. I re-used some of those earlier on this thread when I put a 1/4" plywood surround above some of my equally ****** melamine cabinets inside the garage. See page 7 of this thread.

No, there's not that many boxes up there anymore. I've purged some stuff but there is still some. Need to put my small table saw and my miter saw up there now to open space below the main workbench. The original idea was to keep the garage from looking crowded. So much for that!

NyQuil and QVC are never a good combination.
Pretty much EXACTLY! It was a total impulse buy and I thought I was saved from myself when the site wouldn't accept my card. It kept asking me to input that three digit number from the back of the card which I did over and over, no dice. So ok, I'm off the hook....or so I thought.

STILL haven't opened the box but I will today. Didn't all the cool kids ride new bikes up the street at christmas time when we were kids? I never got a new bike until I was much older.

The e-bike I was talking about yesterday.

The tires are huge and it’s heavy. This step through style, the fact that it folds up, and the overall look screams OLD GUY but I’m not on board with the extra-dorky looking seat backrest. Gonna get rid of that for sure.

It came almost fully assembled. Even had air in the tires. Just pedals, handlebar and seat had to go on. The battery had nearly no charge. Took several hours to full charge it but I’ll get my first ride tomorrow. It even came with a helmet but my melon is so big I can’t use it. I wear a size 8 ball cap. Possibly a 7-7/8 right after a haircut!

Ok well, the battery is fully charged, the key is “On” and I checked the fuse, even swapped it with the spare provided. Electric motor won’t work! Annoying as hell.

Took the battery out and put it on charger again, green light indicates fully charged.

Yesterday I tried riding it a bit and it had almost no charge but it DID work. Put it on charger several hours and now it won’t work!

Of course I called “Daymak” and they’re closed Christmas Eve through Jan 8th. Poor kids that got one of these for Christmas and now can’t ride theirs.

I feel like there MUST be something super simple I’m not doing that I may have done accidentally the other day when it did work a little but who knows. Thinking on it with my old man brain.

Are you pedaling the bike when you're trying to make it go? Some of them need to be pedaled to get the motor to assist.
No, not this time. But the other day when it had very little charge the horn DID honk and i got the motor to drive it for maybe 100 ft before it went dead. Either the battery is bad or I’m missing something super simple that i somehow did - i guess by accident.

Big if but IF the battery is good then there’s something keeping the power from getting to the motor. I checked all the cables and they all appear undisturbed. All still connected. So who the hell knows? I’m sure it’ll be embarrassing when they tell me and then i tell you folks.

Ok, so I win the STOOPID CUSTOMER of the YEAR contest.

Turns out the key has to be “On” AND the electric speedometer thingy at the same time. “Owner’s Manual” doesn’t say anything about that. I kept doing one or the other.

Then while riding I thought it was VERY slow. Turns out you have to press a “+”
symbol on speedo up 25. It’s pretty fast - over 20 mph. All in all it’s a good bike.

Internet says “Daymak” has been around 20 years in Ontario Canada tho box says made in China. But the welds are great and the paint finishes are excellent they just need someone who doesn’t own an e-bike to revise their instructions!

Just back from 10 days in Mexico. 6 in Xcaret, 4 in Isla Mujeres. Such warm, beautiful places. Very friendly people. With my daughter, son-in-law & 3 grandkids. I feel blessed my daughter WANTS to go on vacation with her "Pops". Loved having the kids with us. They're 9-1/2, 5-1/2 and 1-1/2. When last there the oldest was 2 and a tiny cutie. She's getting big fast! No, we were not there just to be babysitters.
Noticed some cars are SO rusted out there. Watched 2 guys parting out an old Beetle with an axe!

A lot of wildlife in Xcaret. Monkeys, iguanas, deer, capybaras and something called coati's. All were friendly. Deer ate apples from my hand. A monkey walked into my daughter's room begging for (or expecting to swipe) the apples & bananas they know the maids leave in each room.

HIGHLY recommend Xcaret to anyone going to Mexico. It's the garden of eden. Yes, THAT beautiful! Going into Xcaret Park is pricey so use a hotel that is all inclusive. Where we stayed WAS owned by the park 8 years ago when we first went. Found out ownership changed and it is no longer.

I could have sworn I posted this on the "What did You Buy Yourself Today" thread but now can't find it. Oh well.

Picked up this flashlight at Costco the other day. $29.99 and claims 5000 lumens. I am truly impressed with it. It's about the same size as my old 3 cell Maglite and just as heavy duty. It could be a self defense weapon in a pinch.

BRIGHT AS HELL!!! It has 3 brightness settings but all of them are very very bright. It comes with rechargeable batteries and has a port for a charging cable AND it comes with an insert that carries 10 AA batteries too! It's not going to replace anyone's multi hundred dollar flashlight but for the average guy like me to use around the house and yard and camping it's a very good value. Highly recommended.

Kay, Didn't see your post til this morning. I'll do it tonight. Driving home later tonight from about 250 miles away at our son's home on the Central Coast.

EDIT:

Got home from Central Coast about 9pm. First pic is the flashlight on "full power" - though I used it any number of times while in Atascadero. 2nd pic is after two "clicks" so it's lowest power setting. Still as bright just that beam is focused more narrow. FYI: The crown of the flashlight can be twisted to make the light much bigger but not any more tightly focused. So you can't get a sharp long distance beam. It's a flood light in weather mode. I wish it would focus to a long distance beam but oh well. STILL a good value. And yes, I see the listed price but it was $29.99 at my Costco in Glendora, CAIMG_1927.jpegIMG_1928.jpeg

A rose by any other name is ...now a stump.
(Apologies to Shakespeare)
All, not exactly a stump but severely cut back. This is standard for roses in mid January to mid February....at least in California. You're in a warm weather location. Don't you have any roses? Do the neighbors and don't they cut the back then too?

Not entirely, Dan.
Some of us are still breathlessly awaiting an update on bolting down the pergola....😉
Ballbuster! Ha ha. Do you think if I procrastinate long enough maybe I'll be too senile to remember the bad one and won't have to remove it!

On an entirely different subject: Our homeowners insurance - Mercury - has asked us for photos of the house to show "defensible space". We topped the ficus tree hedge that surrounds the backyard/pool and had the front yard trees trimmed & thinned so they would not extend over the roof. Now they have come back and made MORE demands.

Our insurance agent says she's going through this with a number of clients whose homes have never before been considered a fire danger. Based on the photos I provided Mercury is asking us to thin this or remove that (the hedge),

Basically, they either don't want to insure ANY home near open lands like ours OR they want us to denude the property of all landscaping plants. Agent has other companies we could use but the cost would be double. The house has lightweight concrete roof tiles - not flammable. And all exterior walls are smooth ("Santa Barbara" stucco) or brick - again both are not flammable. Feels like a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth ahead just for them to deny us anyway.

Insurance - "Give us a LOT of money for a VERY long time but don't ever ask us to pay anything or take any chance cause we'll cancel you". Bastards!
