Dan, that is a great outdoor space. Looks like it has always been there and that is a good thing with a remodel/addition project. I've always wanted a nice covered patio area, I hope you have a Merry Christmas

That covered patio turned out NICE, Dan.
Enjoy the holidays out there!

Nice work on the patio, Dan. The tables turned out great. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thanks so much for the kind words, guys. It looks as good as it does because it was in the plans already from the architect that designed the whole house remodel 5+ years ago before we bought it. Well, except the design had a ceiling in it which we didn’t want out there. I think it’s more appropriate like this.

You guys and ALL the GJ’ers have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, etc and be safe out there. The light at the end of this tunnel is finally visible and we don’t want to lose any more people while we’re (hopefully!) accelerating toward the light! Best, Dan

It's been very enjoyable getting to know you a little better this year
Enjoy your new home.
Merry Christmas

Don

Merry Christmas Dan.

Billy

Thank you guys! I always say the guys and the ladies here are "friends we haven't met yet" and if we lived down the street or around the block from each other we'd eventually stop by to look at each other's projects.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Great project Dan. Im a fellow Glendora resident, that sure looks like "the springs" area.. small world. You're gonna have to change your GJ name.
Keep up the good work.

Hi! Nice to find another GJ'er.

Yup, I only heard the other day this neighborhood is called, "The Springs" and couldn't figure out why for awhile til the neighbor told me....apparently I'm not the sharpest tool in the box, huh?:bounce:

Merry Christmas!

It's a great house Dan, and a great area. Looking forward to more pics.

Thanks! Yeah, we're happy with it.

We never intended to move, especially after retirement. But we knew we were about to pay off the Pasadena house (95 years old house!) and were going to do a lot of work to it: floors refinished, windows replaced, paint inside & out. Plus it wouldn't be long before we should re-roof!

EVERYthing would have to come out, there'd be contractors coming & going so moving seemed less traumatic.

Received this today. I've got a Craftsman shopvac installed on the wall in front of the garage for vacuuming cars but it's a bit of a hassle to use elsewhere cause I have to take it off its hanger along w/accessories and extension cord.

This will allow me to clean up a little easier....I hope! Good reviews on Amazon except the hose doesn't last indefinitely. Our contractors had the DeWalt version and they loved it too except for the hose. Oh well, I'M not going to last indefinitely either!

Thanks Kay,
It must be a woman's sensibilities. Or my girlfriend's and yours at least. I always prefer wood to be natural or a nice wood-color stain.

I'd like these better if the blue stain took more evenly - which was why I tried the pre-stain sealer. But my girlfriend keeps telling me the splotchiness - is the even a real word? - Is the way they're supposed to look. Glad you like them.

Tested the Milwaukee box style shopvac ^^^ and  Highly recommended for moderate cleaning jobs.

During Christmas Home Depot had 2-3 full pallets of the little Ryobi pressure washer I've had my eye on - only $68! Fine for occasionally washing pool deck and truck/Jeep undercarriages.

Recently detailed my '14 GMC for paint correction as Passenger side got scratched by freshly cut shrubs at daughter's neighbor. She lives on a VERY narrow street and I park as close to curb as possible and didn't notice sharp cut shrub branches til too late. Of course it rained the other night and light dust became mud on my fresh detail job!

Used the Ryobi w/foam cannon - 1st I've used one - and it worked great. Waxed her afterward with Collinite 845. Too late with sun going down to get a pic but I'll add one later. 7 years old but she still looks good from 5-10 ft.

Truck looks good Dan. What's this collinite 845?

Thanks!

It's this. $18.50 for a 160z. bottle. At ambient temperature it's semi solid. I soak the bottle in hot water and it become liquid. Wipes on easily and you put it on VERY thin or it's harder to buff off. I hadn't used it on this truck before now because I hadn't done the paint correction it needed. It was done recently so the paint was as good as it could be.

Shine is fantastic and supposed to last a long time. I use it on my '55 but it is never outside, never "hose & bucket" washed so no way to tell how long it lasts on it.

Also posted these on the REST of the hardware storage thread.

I've reduced how much stuff I store a LOT in the new house but still have managed to almost fill this up (and more). Clearly (pun intended) I made a mistake in picking clear label tape. I'll swap it out for black or white at some point. Wish I could find the same size but half depth so I could double the amount of smaller items.

That's similar to my method. I use the clear shoe or boot boxes from Container Store. There's about 4-5 sizes so easy to customize the fit.

Hi Roger,
They aren't exactly shoe box size. They're larger than that and also have some "feet" on the bottoms that fit into shallow slots on the top of another one.

I need to measure them and see if there's a name embossed on them so maybe I can find others that will "work" with them. We have a Container Store in Pasadena. Haven't been there in a long time but I remember their prices being pretty high.

Dan, storage looks great. Yes container store is pricey, however their shoe box comes in three sizes, one is a high heel, one regular size and one half sized. I use them as they have been making the same ones for years and I am **** about matching.

Yeah, I’m kinda **** too about wanting things to match. Hoping to find smaller boxes that will fit right into the same slots the current ones have.

They have shoe box size and bigger. The regular shoe box is too small for most things. Men's shoe box is a good size. They have a boot box, and a small square one as well. Yep, Pasadena store is where I usually go although Costa Mesa is not bad. Better (free) parking at Costa Mesa.

Always go to "The Boat" or "The Hat" for lunch when we're up that way (my wife is from Arcadia). And, usually check out the Rockler store.

I've done a lot of small stuff recently in my new garage. Still getting rid of stuff and finding old things that were dad's. Some I've tossed, some I've cleaned up to use but some just have sentimental value. NOT "tool polisher" level. Just rust removal via wire wheel/Ospho.

Also (like Dad) someone else's trash yielded a couple small projects. A couple stools - I forgot to take a Before pic of one but they looked much alike but was missing a cross bar. It's more comfortable straddled so I used a piece of broomstick and left it sticking out on the sides.

My old Harbor Freight creeper actually works fine still but had faded to almost pink. No bueno. I wondered if it would hold paint then remembered I had the bonding primer I had used on the melamine cabinets so decided to give it a try. Sanded, primed, Rustoleum Regal Red and a Craftsman decal and now it looks too clean to use!

While I'ver been on my little....ahem...."vacation" I also finished enclosing the storage space above some cabinets.

1/4" plywood & 1x1's screwed into the ceiling. HF rare earth magnets hold these sides in position. Hand hold idea came to me when we got a new microwave oven. The box was so heavy they put plastic hole reinforcers in the cardboard. They were easily removable so I re-used them with 5 min epoxy to hold them in place. All painted to match - well, sorta. The cabinets were premiered white before painted gray but not the plywood. So if I get around to it, I'll repaint white then gray again to TRY to get a. match....I hope! Maybe I'll put some garage art up there too.

Glad you're back Dan, that creeper does look too good to use. Turned out very nice. Cabinet enclosure really finishes off that corner of your garage.

Thanks Jay,

None of my tools get used much anymore so the creeper will likely only get used for some oil changes. Most of my tools are now used to work on or clean up other tools! So damn dumb I guess.

Looks good, yea I had a week trip too :)

Is it "good" that I'm glad I'm not the only one? My little "trip" was six weeks though!

Nice work on the stools. I remember the one you recycled a couple years ago in the old garage too. Did you do any more projects during the “vacation”?

That stool I did a couple years ago I just redid again but in red. It loosened up so I tightened up the screws, painted it red and applied a giant 7Up sticker to replace the worn Polly Gas one. I had since found another one quite similar and made it match except with a gasoline sticker on it. I kinda like the old petroleum brands. I have a Gilmore Gas trash can too.

The project I need to do is install a work surface across the tops of my large HF box and my Craftsman box and also remove the casters on them and replace with a fixed 2x6 base. The problem is the Craftsman is a stack with a short mid box and a top box. I can't have those since I bought metal pegboard to use as a backsplash above them. I've got to figure this out. I'm sure I'll post pics once I do.

Dan, ... for when you are back... I had several intermediate craftsman boxes... I took 6 of them... put 3 in a stack... then put 3 in a stack behind them... on a wooden pallet with casters... made a 20 drawer roller... with a nice double 3/4" plywood top... shimmed oh so perfectly to sit nice.

I sold it or I would take a picture of it for you. You might want to consider something like that for the upper craftsman boxes.

Hello ladies & germs!

Bunch of stuff been going on: FINALLY got our PVC gates installed. These should be the last pics of the patio room work. I'm happy the color matches the house pretty well. Brought our boat home from 250 miles away at son's house. We nearly lost the tread on a tire. New ones on Monday. These are so bad I don't trust driving it to the tire shop. I'll pull them and take them. The RV & Toad #1 (infamous Fiat) will be home and back there soon too.

Spent a day washing/waxing boat, addressing a wiring issue on the ski tower. When tires are on it'll be totally covered with a sun sacrificial tarp.

Spent today sanding & painting exterior window sills on the due South side of the house; they were beginning to peel. Trying not to let anything get out of hand in this house. Also got my first vaccination shot today at Cal State LA. There must be 100,000 traffic cones to guide cars there.

Now my wide HF box is alone with a small top. Still need 3/4" risers under the plywood and make a short backsplash. Wall Control metal pegboard seems to work well though I'm not that impressed with their hooks. Regular pegboard hooks work better for me with Pegitz rubber peg locks. Not sure where the Craftsman wall cabinet will go. Possibly get another one and put above the pegboard or put it above my sink. The heavy weld/persuasion table will be refinished and my large vise mounted to it (I think)
