Thanks. I took 0000 steel wool to the front of the caps and they shine up fairly well. They have some minor dents and one of them doesnt really want to shine. But I may throw them on a buffer and see if I can bring it up with some Tripoli.




I'm kinda **** about my truck so in the end I may just get some repop 1955 truck caps. We'll see.

If using Tripoli, recommend you follow this step with jewelers rouge on a separate rag wheel. This additional step will make the wheel covers really pop!

Drizzly here today and I felt lazy. I put the handles & hinges back on the red box I posted above. Waiting for a chrome Chevrolet script emblem from eBay and I need to spray some rattle can bed liner on the inside to finish it. I may look for a latch. It'll only be for a few cleaning products & towels if/when I ever take the truck to a car show.

Also threw another coat of water based poly on the plywood work surface I posted yesterday.

Ha! No Picasso with a brush but I can do an ok job with a rattle can sometimes. Another couple coats of primer, more sanding and more red would have made it better but i’ve already spent enough time on it.

Another coat of poly on the bench top tomorrow if I get "a round tuit"!

Finishing up on my dad’s old box I fixed up. The inside is/was rough as hell. I decided to just spray it with bed liner and call it good. I expected it to be heavily textured - it wasn’t. But oh well. It still looks better than before. The latch and "Chevrolet" script emblem came today. I'll install them tomorrow.

Oh and just to prove "we ain't in Kansas (Pasadena) anymore" here are a couple sights we never saw when we lived there.

The peacocks are moving East - our direction. They've made it about 1/2 mile closer since last April. It's Spring and this one had it's tail fully spread and was squawking LOUD I assume to attract a female? But I didn't get my phone out fast enough to catch it. Guessing they'll reach our neighborhood next year.



We refer to this guy as "Juan Valdez" - you have to be old enough to remember the old Folger's Coffee commercials to get the joke. They always had a guy in sombrero with a donkey talking about "mountain grown" coffee. Anyway, this guy walks these two donkeys like they're dogs. There's even an area of wild grass he stops to let them graze. A neighbor tells me he has four of them and walks a different pair every day. Good on him! They're very tame, don't mind dogs or people and just walk along. I really like seeing them.

Plenty of peacocks around the arboretum in Arcadia. I'd think some may migrate to Pasadena but likely just the way east end. It's a hoot to drive through the neighborhood across the street from the arboretum and see the hens with their brood following behind.

Yup, just 2 blocks west of us there is a block that seems to have their favorite lawns. 6 or 8 of them under the trees every afternoon. I guess the homeowners don’t mind. I hear they poop big and everywhere and I know they scream their heads off. That’s why I think they’ll be on our block in another year or so. We already have lots of coyotes, raccoons, skunks, oppossums,....but ZERO cats!

Looks like a chicken. Do you have wild chickens there or did he get this from someone's yard? There are a LOT of peacocks in the neighborhood so there must be some reason the coyotes don't get them. Maybe they're particularly good fighters? Big claws or they gang up on the coyotes? Anyone know?

We have coyotes here and one day my girlfriend caught one walking our backyard block wall - I assume looking for our 10 lb toy poodle? Now I have to go out with the dog EVERY time to make sure he doesnt become lunch. Just the other day a hawk dove down deep over our yard. I assume for the same reason - could they pick up 10lbs?

I think an adult hawk could carry him away without a problem. I think a coyote carried off one of our stray cats the other night I'm surprised he hasn't been back for more.

We have no cats in my area either but the coyotes run through my yard quite frequently in the mornings and there are a family of hawks living in my front yard tree. I have 2 large dogs, a Rotty and a Doby Pit mix that control the squirrel population and rabbits.

We have had possum, racoon, bobcat carcass brought to us by the wrecking crew from time to time.
I'm up against the mountains across the valley from you.

Waited for it to dry out some and resumed working on two planting borders. Below is a duplicate post that I put in the "What Did You Do IN Your Yard Today" thread:

Doesn't look like much yet but represents a couple days of hard work. Turning over the "clay-ish" soil full of rocks, folding in several large bales of soil conditioner to break up the clay - and it does somewhat. Planting 60 of 80 day lily bulbs in these two areas surrounded by four flats of dianthus annuals. These borders get HOT in the summer so I needed something that loves the heat.

Weird. I've been to Seattle maybe 3-4 times not counting our family trip there in 1963 for the World's Fair when I was 8 years old. Every time I've been there it pretty much rained continuously.

Yesterday I planted the daylily bulbs from Costco. They're a VERY good deal. Each box has 40 bulbs, ten each of different colors. Only $38 per box!

We planted 60 in 2 different borders in the front yard but the remaining 20 (the plain pink ones) I planted in the back in a narrow border. Doesn't look like anything now of course but dark spots in the ground.

We have over 100 rose bushes around here and in January we always cut them back and they start blooming in April. I love to ride the golf cart around picking roses around here.

Don, yes I cut roses back in late Jan/early Feb every year. My brother-in-law is a retired landscape architect and he taught me about a lot of garden stuff years ago.

The prior owner of this house put in white roses all around the backyard but he was a never-does-any-yardwork-himself kind of guy so they'd never been cut back. They were all leggy, etc. I did it this Feb and fed them and they have come back SO healthy. Shiny leaves, strong branches. They're going to bloom really nice.
