Hi Dan, I really like what you have done with the garage it looks great. I like the wheel hose/cord reel idea to, the wheel came out great. The tape truck is really cool and I see you have about as many paint can openers as I do. its funny the last few times I go get paint they give me one of them but no stir sticks. keep up the great work its turning out Awesome.

Thank you guys!

I'm gonna be off work early tomorrow. I hope to mount that mag for long edxtension cords, polish/paint the deeper one for air hose. Then, I REALLY need to get off my **** and build the face from for one of my cabinets. More to come...eventually!

I did an admittedly quickie job today on the 2nd daisy mag that I'll use for air hose.

1st I painted it a lighter primer gray thinking I'd like it better - I didn't.
DaisyMag2-After2.jpg

So, I did a quick reshoot in the darker gray I used yesterday.
DaisyMag2-After3.jpg

I don't have a 2nd plastic center cap, and necessity is a mutha', right? I had some leftover roofer's aluminum stock. I traced a circle on it, used tin snips, then my bench grinder to get it round +/-. Above its unpainted. Here it is after I primed and sprayed it with the same metallic paint I used on the plastic cap. Its not as nice I agree but I'm telling myself its like the flat caps that road race cars used to use.

You may have to put some clear coat over the primer if you intend to leave it that way.

I'd be concerned about that IF I were putting them on a car but for storing hoses and extension cords I don't think I care.

Trouble is, these look pretty good to me. They have me wondering if I should search for another cheapie and see if the truly bad one can be salvaged by TIG welding (I guess?) and turning it down on a lathe? I can always find SOME kind of rim for the hoses/cords.

That is a fair point if you only intend to keep them for hoses. Still I was thinking of the presentation and keeping them looking good.

Even a steel wheel with a Hub cap would look ok if just for hoses.

I just read through the whole thread....Man you've done some work! You really opened up your space with the structural mods and looks like you're well on your way to a great space to work. Do you have any recent pics of the overall garage? I'd like to get an idea how it's all going back together.

It's been a few weeks since you posted it, but never be afraid to take a diversion as cool as that Cobra....one thing I've found about GJ is those diversions can lead down some pretty cool paths...and with all the car guys here, it's hard to go wrong with something like that...thanks for sharing.

I suffer from this same dilema:

Back on Subject:What do you guys do to keep yourselves "on task"? I'm just terrible about doing 90% of a project and taking f o r e v e r to finish the other 10% and I feel myself doing that now. I need to get the face frame built and mounted for the red cabinet in post #44. I need to make some doors for my large storage cabinets, etc. Instead I'm off painting shop vacs and posting Cobra pic's!

I don't know if it's a remedy, or part of the problem, but I like to keep several projects going at once and when I get stuck or run low on motivation on one thing, something usually pops into my head on one of the others. This leads to lots of partially finished things, but keeps my (self-diagnosed!) A.D.D. busy. One thing that always seems to get me going to finish things up is a gathering at the shop....a deadline (even if self-imposed) is a pretty good motivator for me.

Sorry for the long post, but you're doing a great job....keep up the good work!

Highly unlikely that's a genuine Daytona coupe Cobra, they only built 6 of them & they sell for upwards of $4M a pop... One crashed at Laguna Seca just this past weekend OUCH!

However, having said that, there is one locally. The guy that runs the Galpin Ford bodyshop (Jay something) has (had?) one.

Altho they only built 6... 7 of them survive.... Huh?

Years ago one was totaled in a wreck, it ended up in two piles from which two cars were rebuilt. You can imagine the lawsuits over that deal....

I even have the hubcaps! Up in the post #85 photo you can see I've got a few '52 Chevy caps hanging on the wall. But its actually HARD to find early Chevy rims anymore. But I agree that steelies w/small cap and a beauty ring would look good.

Thanks so much for taking the time. I'd been thinking of editing all the "yada-yada" about my yards and just leaving the garage stuff. Yes, removing that wall has really helped.

The reason I posted about motivation is because of EXACTLY what you posted. I go off on tangents-other projects. I still haven't painted the backside of the overhead I-beam even though I have the paint. I partially trimmed out the beam end where it meets the wall but didn't finish the paint because I needed to do that trimming out!

Im intentionally not posting overall photos cause I need to build a cabinet face frame as well as some doors for other cabinets and then paint/hang them all. And last, I need to finish putting everything away. As you can see instead of posting about these rims or about Cobras I oughta be finishing the basic reset...DOH!

Great job on the garage reset! Your hard work and dedication is inspiring:thumbup:

I thank YOU guys. Posting about the things I'm **** retentive about is the only reason anything ever gets done! Thanks again for the kind words.

Finally done with this projects - kinda! Not all that sure I like the look. Opinions appreciated. I MAY put both rims below the light switch, not sure.

Sorry for the small photos. Photobucket was off line doing maintenance all evening.

That may be a good idea. I need to think on it. I told you guys I'm bad about being able to visualize these things. Sometimes I've got to take a photo and look at it.

A little diversion this past weekend but since I posted photos of my patio earlier I may as well post this:

I (finally) ran the conduits and wiring for my exterior patio fans. Damned near electrocuted myself in the process but that's another story.

FanInstalled.jpg

A little hard to see in this photo but I'm pleased with it.

Haven't posted anything in awhile...because I haven't DONE much in awhile. Too DAMN hot in L.A. lately.

Anyway, I had this small garage fridge and though it was in good condition I felt it was blah. Did a quick sand and wipe down, primed with Rustoleum light gray auto primer and painted with Sunrise Red. The graphic is from a guy on eBay. He made it a custom size for me so it would fit the door to suit me:

Also, I found this deal on Craigslist:
StudWelder-Before_zps93fec8b6.jpg

$25 and it was a little bangd up and dirty but worked fine.

I cleaned it up with a Scotch Brite pad and some degreaser.
StudWelder-After_zpsd64ebfa7.jpg

I haven't bought any studs for it yet nor the puller-thingy (yeah I'm a pro, lol) and I don't truly have a need for it but for that price I couldn't pass on it.

Hi Don,

Yeah, supposedly 97 degrees in Pasadena today.

No idea on the stud "wedler" - I laughed when I read that Chinese label. I have my old '55 Chevy truck but it really has very little body damage. At least the kind that is fixable by a stud welder. I've got some rust repair to do though. Thanks for the kind words on the fridge. Just a little diversion.

I'm sure I've already stepped over the pc line into near-racist territory by even noticing but you'd think if you were gonna sell products in another country you could find someone that was fluent in the language of the country you're gonna sell in and ASK THEM TO PROOF READ YOUR FRICKIN' LABELS!!!

I found some FREE cabinets on Craigslist, so I picked them up to replace open shelving I've been using to keep various supplies.

Here's an old (bad) photo of the open shelving these cabinets will replace.

SuppliesArea.jpg

Here are the cabinets as I picked them up:

FreebieCabinets_zps652de070.jpg

I primed them with Kilz (no pic), then rolled on some latex Krylon Classic Gray (what else!) Satin today. It goes on nice, loses the roller texture well but tends to run even with a light coat. Label says "Recoat after 6 hrs but before 24 hrs" - DOH! Now I've gotta do it before the game tomorrow.:(

CLShelves3_zps925e58e0.jpg

The cabinets are missing their outer doors but I plan to make replacements.

Nothing to really show but I got the 2nd coat on today just under the 24 time limit at about noon today. Then I went in to watch the pre game show.

This Krylon latex REALLY hangs on to your skin. If it holds on to the cabinets as well it'll be great.

I had the day off today so I removed the old open shelving and installed/leveled the "new" cabinets I posted about above.

Obviously, I still need to trim out the cabinets and complete the painting. I would have worked on that but I got off on a tangent - natch - putting a lot of the contents back in so they wouldn't be all over the floor and wiping all the dust off/applying labels:dunno:

I still have to make doors and right now I'n leaning toward glass in the upper doors - kinda dumb, I know. I'm probably overdoing it.

Oh yeah, thanks Duck for the kind words. I made doors for them but I'm unhappy with them...or where I've mounted them. When the doors are open it really block that relatively small passage between my garage and my workshop. I'm considering a total rearrangement but haven
T really decided how things will work best. Thanks for bumping this old thread back to the top too.

I think your garage rocks my socks. Congrats on a super job - and quit putting yourself down. You DO have an eye for this sort of thing

Wow Lito, thanks for commenting on my old thread. My garage and shop are both absolute messes right now. Lots of cobwebs and disorganization.

I hate to admit it but I've totally slacked off. I'll get back to it soon now that I've been shamed! Lol
