Just got back from a trip to HF.

Microfiber cloths: Cheap as hell, work awesome for cleaning cars/bikes. On sale for the "Dollar Days" stuff now. I bought a big pack of 10 for like $4 I think. PASS

1/2" Drive Composite ratchet: Got it to go with my 1/4" and my 3/8" drive ones. Same quality as the other two. Love it. Fine tooth, comfortable, and works great. PASS

Anti-fatigue foam mats: Pretty hard to muck up a solid piece of foam that you stand on. Comes with 4 interlocking 25"x25" tiles. Dropped 2 in the kitchen in front of the sink, and will find other uses for the other 2. $9 with coupon, works well. PASS

Wrench rings: Again, hard to mess up. Holds combo wrenches. Cheap, does it's job. No complaints. PASS

Also got some free multipurpose scissors and a anti-slip rubber mat for electronics to put on a dashboard. Haven't used them, yet, but simple enough that they should work well.

yeah those micofiber clothes are great!

I have the 1/2" composite ratchet as well a good replacement to the one a friend threw out by mistake that i got from auto zone about 4 years ago but it was a little longer but the HF one is a good replacement to it which is why I held off so long on getting another 1/2" one.

I just came back from HF myself and I picked up these items..

32 piece feeler gauge (32214)

0-1" digital micrometer (LOL) (item 895) it's not really digital at all it just has a dial window..

Gasket scraper (98507)

and my 5th time going to the store they were STILL out of flashlights and I already had what they had in the bucket.. (leather gloves, scissors, and screwdriver set) So I said I will exchange the flashlight one for the 25Ft tape measure seems ok so far..

I get to test this all out next week.

If you want microfiber clothes. Places like Sam's Club, BJ's, or Costco is the way to go.

I use microfiber clothes for paintball. Using It as a squeegee on mask lenses leaves them spotless.

Great if you already have a membership.. if you don't better go for something in the store to make it worth while!

checking out the micrometer and it seems so far on point I did have to calibrate it

speaking about all this microfiber clothes that reminds me I need to clean the film off the inside of my window

Oh yeah I remember what else I was going to say in the post.. So I went to HF this afternoon and I had a look at the engine stands again.. maybe it was just a lazy person that worked at the store that assembled it or whatever but it seem like both the 750 lb and the 1000 Lb stands all seemed to tilt forward when weight was put on the part that would hold the engine.

Best deal on good microfiber cloths I've seen recently are at Home Depot, Walmart also from time to time has packs of 25 for $10.

Tilt on the engine stands could be sloppy assembly, but I still wouldn't touch the T, and if I was buying another one I would spend the money for the 2000 lb stand. Well maybe I would, kind of split, the 1000 works well and easy to put a big plastic mixing tray on the base to catch goop, but I also have an itch for a NICE stand with a gear drive on the rotating mechanism. Easy to store, vs easy to use.

i've got 'em. there good but would have got the 6 tons due to height and support. They have a larger base and more sturdy ... A friend gave me a set of 6 tons, and that is what I use now most of the time.

I've even thought about these badboys b/c you can really get a vehicle up in the air if you need... 1 2 t o n ! ! Like a Peterbilt...

I have a set that I've been using regularly for the past couple of years. No issues at all. They hold my Saturn and Subaru up just fine. I'm actually thinking about getting another set.

I wonder why all the folks who had the jackstands fail haven't posted about it...

http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-inch-extendable-ratchet-98831.html
ive used them to break lugs, hammered on the back to bite rusty bolt heads; its tough as nails! i wonder why no one else uses one?:shocking:

The design is overkill, if a car is over you when they fail, they kill you.

As far as I can tell jackstand accidents 90% are due to poor placement, outright failure seems to be from gross overloading or failure to detect some basic defect in a stand.

The choice for most car users between 3, 6, or 12 ton jackstands is the desired height.

It's always nice to have the option to go higher. I did the clutch (well, slave cylinder and clutch) on my pickup a while back and just BARELY got the transmission out while using regular 3-ton jackstands. So I'm getting the six-ton just in case.

Hopefully I won't need them any time soon, though! Here's the 3-ton for $12.99, though.

BTW I'd hope that even if one jackstand fails, enough of it would remain so you'd have a fair chance of getting crushed just a little. I had a wheel pop off once (don't ask) and the car just kept on going, dragged the dust shield for the brake disc a little. So you might be all right.

Yeah, but I don't have a membership, and the closest one isn't any closer than HF, which is 45 min away. I just needed a bunch to clean up a new to me motorcycle I'm buying.

25 for $10 isn't really any better than 10 for $4. :lol_hitti Regardless, good to know. I was already out there so I figured I'd grab them. Meant to get more of the little flashlights (love those suckers), but didn't remember till I was in line already.

I'll probably have to pick up some jackstands too.

none of my HF are very close..

Or what I see you are in CT as well.. before the store in Orange, CT opened I was driving 25 miles to Saddle Brook, NJ plus having to pay for tolls returning.

:)

I bought both the 3 ton aluminum and 3 ton steel jack stands a couple of years ago as cheap back ups. Over the years I've had tires blow out on the freeway four times and each time has been an adventure changing it.

The last time was outside of Baker, California (On the way to Vegas) on the soft shoulder with 18 wheelers screaming by. The cheap scissor jacks that come with the cars are flimsy at best on solid ground. I now keep the pair of steel jack stands in my Caravan and one aluminum jack stand in the trunk of the big car as insurance/support in case I ever have to change a tire on the side of the road again.

I'm on the other side. There's one outside of Hartford and one outside of Warwick, RI that I'm about equidistant from. Not cool. 45min+ away.

Two six ton jack stands for thirty bucks is a super deal!! I have a set I bought "on sale" for $39.99 - and that was a great deal. For the average home owner the six ton's are the only way to go. The three ton's are just too short for most things....

For me I just couldn't get beyond the color of those stands, they are a great deal at the price, but to me the "just at 25 wings and this is the color of my piss: orange yellow color was a deal breaker. Ended up w/ the 3 ton high lift crapsman stands.

I actually broke a jack stand yesterday. Well, kind of. The little pin that goes through the handle onto the level broke. Stand still works, I just pulled the lever out and have to manipulate the switch with my finger. Should be an easy fix. Don't know how I did it, either. Wasn't weight, it was under a VW chassis which is like 100 lbs top. I think it was because it was a very old stand and that I cranked that handle one too many times.
I figure since I've been using some of their stuff for a while now, I'd give some firm reviews on it.
Metric hex sockets: PASS
I put those 12.9 hex head bolts nearly everywhere on my recently car project, and used these things to install them. Very tough. The biggest bit I used to install a very large bolt for the diagonal arms, torquing to God nows what, no problems. If your into cosmetics, I found they rusted a little inside, which is a rarity for anything in my garage (I have sand blasted metal lying around that looks like new even after a year).
http://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece-38-and-12-drive-metric-hex-bit-socket-set-67880-html.html
Box wrenches: PASS
Bought these to take the nuts off my car's struts, but tend to grab them over my Craftsmens because I always misplace the size I need. No slip, no rounding, works perfect. Like the hex bits, my only complaint is that they have rust a little bit. Need to stop leaving my tools on the lawn :)
http://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-metric-offset-box-wrench-set-32042.html
These two items I have rode hard and put away wet (literally, note the rust) and can take the abuse. Highly recommend them!

So basically you probably paid 50% more for the same Made in China stands when you could have purchased the HFs and a can of paint.

I gotta agree with the harbor frieght orange on some of there stuff. I bought the 20 ton press and it sticks out like a sore thumb in my garage. I'll have to buy some purple drapes or something to return the feng shui to my garage.

Any input for the Pittsburgh 12 piece SAE / Metric Speed Grip Combination Wrench Set 93512? Its a copycat of the 6 point metrinch. So far, I have seen one review saying the 3/4 wrench rounds off too easy. Any input? ....And yes I have searched this thread too. I dont normally shop at HF, but trying to fill my tool roll for my jeep with decent stuff at low cost. I've cruised flea markets and online for great deals on quality tools, but these wrenches are intriguing in that they are both SAE and metric.

6" Digital Calipers...Pass
Deadblow Hammer....Pass
Wire Brushes...Pass, use one for BBQ pit too.
Battery tester....Pass so far, but has a real cheap feel
Small trickle charger....works great, use on lawnmower batteries for fishing lights and aerators. Lasts for hours! These work best over standard battery chargers. Great buy!

Maybe you should rethink that.

I put some value on my time, so unless I could have gotten them from HF for significantly less than the 19.99 I got the for from Sears, AND I could rattle can a finish that is as durable for less than the difference between the two sets then you might have an argument.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950159000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

vs.

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog/product/view/id/831/

The two stands are pretty close in construction, and also in price. Pretty sure that the 19.99 I paid for the Crapsman stands is less than the sale price on the HF ones right now....
