Not to be pedantic, but $20 really is 50% more than HFT's $12.99 coupon price. And I'm surprised you got them that cheap at Sears.

So basically you probably paid 50% more for the same Made in China stands when you could have purchased the HFs and a can of paint.

Hmmm... for eight bucks in savings you would:

1) buy the orange stands;
2) spend the time to strip/sandblast them;
3) spend six bucks for rattle-can paint;
4) spend the time to paint them;
5) clean up the mess.

Not worth it to me.
Tool color doesn't matter to me (orange, yellow, black - who cares?), but faced with that decision I would gladly pay the eight bucks difference.

Just my 2 cents...:thumbup:

I want my jack stands a bright color that jumps out at me (and anyone else that walks by) - not color coordinated with the drapes and carpet.

Or, with $12 jack stands being $12, do what most people would do - plop them on some cardboard in the yard, hit them with primer and spray paint, stick the cardboard in the trash, and be done.

Tools aren't meant to be pretty and as long as they're not pink, color doesn't much matter to me, but I don't think many people who spend $12 on jack stands are going to sand-blast and strip them before a repaint.

I know a person that repainted the 1 ton shop crane from the orange to highlight yellow and purple but it was more for fun but looked decent..

I really don't care however what color it is.

I think I heard about one person that broke one I can't remember if it was here or another site but the sand stuff fell out, but that's the only one I heard of.

I could see maybe cutting the plastic on a deadblow if you hit something sharp, but I've used them to pound on the side of a wrench with no issue. I've seen them in shops that look like they have had a LOT of hard use and sometimes have had the heads taped up with duct tape, but I don't know if thats a repair or for some other reason.

Seeing more, and more about the dead blows. Has anyone broken one? Where did it break?

Mine failed. The hard plastic label on the side popped out of the slot. :willy_nil

:D

The face of mine is all cut up from hammering on fenders and such, but I've utterly failed to make it fail. The cuts haven't gotten to the guts yet. :thumbup:

Electronic Freon and Halogen Leak Detector..

Marginal pass

I've had this for a year it's odd.. this is my first one but just turning it on it seems too sensitive..

like blowing at the tip is enough to cause a increase in the level..

I broke my SnapOn if that counts. Honestly, it's not significantly better than the Pittsburgh dead blows (although I LOVE the SO ball pein deadblow).
Blasphemy, I know, but this is one tool that HF got right.
The handle got all wiggly where it connects with the head, but the rubber overmold kept everything together.

My Pittsburgh deadblows are the older black style. I can't wait until I break one, and can replace it with orange. The orange is non-marking, unlike the black.

FAIL #93819 1hp dirty water pump. may be discontinued now but I had 3 fail one after the other, pumping 'clear' pond water. The failure was run time not FOD / 'dirty' water.

i'll give the orange 750# engine stand a pass. rolls easy, also can rotate the motor with ease.

How do you adjust the governer on the 2 stroke generator?

See attached... :thumbup:

You don't have to take the tank off. It's on the right hand side under the tank when looking at the outlet/control side of the generator.

Anyone tried the new gray jacks? the Pittsburg ones, item 68056 looks pretty sweet too me.

Ive got one of their aluminum jacks and an older orange jack from them and they are badass and never failed me. Id just like a higher rated jack for larger trucks and such.

I must of screw something up then because in order to get 116V under load I had to screw that screw all the way in.. if it was left at the factory setting somehow I caused it to only put out like 86V

I feel forgetting to pick up one from HF I did check them out last time I was in the store.. lucky for me I have to go this friday to pick up the 1 ton engine lift so I might as well pick one up.. I killed a cheap autozone one I had.. somehow the screw came out and it just all fell apart.

having said that... in about 3 weeks from now I will be pulling the heads off my car.. for some odd reason Subaru uses a 12 point bolts for the heads I'm not sure if I should go with the HF socket or look for something else..

You can do those head gaskets without removing the engine FYI. Having done about 10-12 of them, I'd personally rather remove the engine but it can definitely be done without.

Do you have a torque wrench?

If you had a DOHC motor you would spend more time cussing then the less time it takes to pull the motor..

on the DOHC you have to pull the cams anyways and you would have a problem getting the head bolts out.

and I have at least 2 Tq wrenches.

I'm still pulling the motor however

it's good I never got to do it on my week off from work since my town thought it was a good time to repave my while street so all the cars had to move off the street so I was unable to put my family member's car on the street to use the driveway..

I don't understand the street did not need to be repaved..

Ha! I didn't get far enough to see that you already have the hoist! Yes, the DOHC are a pain to do in-car, but definitely do-able. Phase 2 SOHC are less of a pain, but still doable. But the Phase 1 SOHC... those are a breeze in car. Of course the headgaskets don't have issues so go figure. :D

The 750lbs engine stand is fine for a Subaru. I've had many a EJ motor on my HF 750. I've also had Jeep 4.0s on it. THAT was a bit scary but it got the job done. That said I just ordered the HF 1000Lbs stand to supplement my two 750lbs stands. Not for any particular reason except that the price difference was negligible. I'll report back my findings.

The 12-point head bolts are no sweat either. No doubt a Pittsburgh socket would be fine. I like them a lot better than the triple square and poly drive headbolts...

haha yeah the SOHC ares a breeze I had a 95 legacy and I put 30K on it and all I did was do the timing belt and water pump.

did you have any issues with the head bolts? kinda odd for a 12 point to be on the heads.. I really have everything ready (going to get the chain tomorrow) I just need to find the right time to do it all since i head back to work next week.

I've had two bolts break, rusted bad. Trashed the block. Otherwise no problems on the DOHC motors.

And yes, we kinda got off topic... :bowdown:

HVLP gun- Pass. Just threw some flat black oil based rustoleum in it and went to town. Worth the $12 I'd say... Looks a lot better than a rattle can.

thanks getting tired of having to borrow lol.

I would throw away any discs that may come with it and buy some decent ones. HF abrasive discs spinning at 10K scare me! Plus a good disc can make a world of difference as to how the tool cuts, no matter what brand.
