i bought a handheld metal detector this afternoon. item number 97245. it works pretty good so far. i was able to pin point coins when metal detecting. i use my garrett to find the coin, i then start to dig. i use the handheld pin pointing detector to determine where in the hole the coin is. works well.

Anybody try the 3/8" impacting air ratchet, item 68426 yet? I saw it today and was intrigued. It would come in super handy on brake jobs.

I have one and I like it. Like the other guy said, it has a reasonable amount of power, is quiet, spins fasteners off fast, and impacts instead of biting your knuckles. But it's not for breaking big bolts or anything like that. It's an air ratchet, not a replacement for an impact.

35915 2-ton Shop Crane
This is another one of Harbor Freight's tools that has undergone a rebranding to Pittsburgh, though it doesn't say that on the site and photos don't yet reflect that. The new version is painted silver metalflake, with a red hydraulic jack. It's a solid tool and folds easily to store in a 3ftx2ft corner of the shop. The one I picked up was built in June 2011, and it was double-boxed, stapled and and poly-strapped for a secure trip from the PRC.

This tool does an adequate job, and overall I'm pleased with it. I will be replacing the pins for the feet with better quality pins and locks, and I plan on replacing the bolts on the adjustable boom with pins on both ends. I'd rather have swivel ring pins than the welded pins and bolts they supplied.

5402 2-ton Load Leveler
The crank handle could be better, but no complaints otherwise. This did not come with hooks or bolt-on fixtures, where OTC and Torin do. It's not an amazing value either - you can get a decent brand leveler for around $50 too - but I was at HF and I needed one. Add-on $35 for hooks and lifting tags at a local family-owned shop on the way back and the 20% off coupon on the engine hoist was blown, but I'm happy with the value.

I still don't like going to Harbor Freight, it's an hour and fifteen each way for me and a madhouse on Saturday morning. And then there's the smell. But I needed a big engine lift and I needed it yesterday, and I just couldn't get it local, despite Advance showing one in stock. This is only the second time I've ever been inside a Harbor Freight store, but I'll note this time the store had a much better presentation. The aisles have been reset wider, the lighting seems better, and the layout is much better than it was two years ago. The counter persons seemed stressed and the place is definitely understaffed, but the stock guys were very helpful and everyone was courteous.

Which HF store was this? Not Saddle Brook right?

Rhino ramps work perfectly fine on my bare concrete floor with their little rubber pads. Heck, one pad fell off and I used the ramp without it a couple times until the pad turned up again.

#45257 6" digital calipers
Had a Cen Tech one for a few years: PASS
The new Pittsburg one is still a PASS (barely), but quality seems to be slipping.

I check my calipers using a couple grade 25 ball bearings. Cen Tech is spot on at 8mm and .02 off at 14mm.

Pittsburg is magnetized (annoying), doesn't slide as smoothly, .02 off at 14mm, and .03 off at 8mm. .03mm is the max specified in the documentation to still be in spec.

For around $10 using a coupon, this is a good deal.

I know it's been universally praised around here but i have to add my PASS for the 5 Drawer Service Cart. I got one last week for $149.99 and I just got around to assembling it tonight. I was impressed with it's design and strength, it went together easily. I had to remove the drawers to lift the main cabinet down into the frame because I was alone, would not have had to do that with a helper. Heck, they threw even in some extra nuts and bolts which is a nice change from the usual, being short a bolt or 2. And no, I didn't miss any connections....

BTW, has anyone tried the #68568 12 Volt Lithium Ion Cordless 1/4" Hex Impact Driver? It' would be $48 with the 20% discount but only comes with one battery, extras are $20.

I'm still bummed over missing the Bosch set for $38...

It's likely been covered, but the 4-Piece prybar set I bought last night ($5 with coupon!):

I was so excited to bring them home and put them in my 5-Drawer cart. The 2 bigger sizes don't allow you to close the lid on the cart! I had to put them in a drawer. What good is the prybar rack on the sides, if they don't fit?

Prybars do look better than my Autozone ones. Not sure how long the powdercoat will last, but we shall see!

I used the magnetic rails to hold mine.

yes, they are smooth in the hand. they work like the high price ones at other co. for much less. the strip is clean and the jaw stays tight, a great tool and even better price. they pass, as a top notch cutter i now own two more pair.

The right angle variable speed buffer is a definite FAIL!

I had to file the handle where it attaches to get it to fit and it's so loud when I use it that ear protection is a must.

I should have known better since it has more than one moving part.

FAIL!

Good to know, what garrett do you have? I got a deal on a used tesoro and love it, hardly ever use the whites anymore and forget about the bounty hunter, it might as well be branded Kmart.

Item # 67722 Magnum-16000 Auto Ramp

Major FAIL! Backed my truck onto these steaming piles and one shattered.

http://www.harborfreight.com/magnum-16000-auto-ramp-set-with-built-in-safety-chock-67722.html

Better to fail when driving on them rather than when under them, I've always had a stigma about plastic ramps, always felt that if the metal ones started to go while under them you'd have a couple seconds to get out. Since I've gotten older I always use a jackstand or something a bit thicker than myself just in case.

Too many good men have been killed by cars falling off jacks, stands, and ramps, not a way I'd like to go myself.

i have a cheapy ace 250. well, cheap for a garrett.

i went ahead and bought the worm saw i asked about in an earlier post. i used the hell out of it today building a flight of stairs. so far its a pass.

the only problem i had is the oil fill port. the mill work *****. the opening was jagged. it cut the o-ring when they installed it from the factory. it was an easy fix tho. i knocked off the metal shards with a screw driver. i'll be buying an o-ring set tomorrow.

has plenty of power. i was cutting pressure treated 2x's. it takes a few seconds to get up to speed. if you let it free-wheel, after about 10-15 seconds it speeds up ust slightly. maybe the oil in the gearbox is warming up? not really worried about it. it could be the power fluctuating, too.

23-gauge pin nailer: FAIL

So I got it and it didn't shoot nails, period. So I tried adjusting the depth, which has a plastic lever. Pretty hard to do it. It's set right but I'm not sure what's up, so I change it a couple times. Around the third time, the plastic snaps. Admittedly, I was pushing it pretty hard.

Ok, so why dosn't it shoot nails? I pulled the nose apart, something looks wrong. Hmm. OH! The friggen bottom of the nose was installed upside down. I righted it, but it still misfired every pin after the first. Once the nose was installed right the depth was very easy (much too easy) to knock out of place after breaking it. I don't think that was causing the misfires; the bottom nose was just too tight of a fit around the pins.

Anyway it was the last one the store had so I guess I'll have to wait a while for a replacement. I have the brad and 15-gauge nailers and they work fine.

Their Krazy Glue is also a good buy, but it does kind of dry up to quickly after you open the tube

once again i ask. has anyone been able to get the missing sizes from this set ?
http://www.harborfreight.com/10-piece-12-drive-deep-wall-metric-impact-socket-set-67915.html

The 20- and 23MM sockets would be unlikely to be used, since there are no standard metric hex fasteners in these sizes. The 16- and 18MM sockets would be used on DIN standard nuts (10MM and 12MM, respectively) but ISO and JIS hexes are included in this set.

16MM is only .005 larger than 5/8", so an American wrench could substitute, although a little tight.

I once needed an 18MM wrench, and bought a combination wrench off Ebay. Since this is a DIN hex size, they should be available online somewhere.

My orange polisher works fine, but sounds like a bunch of marbles rattling in something. $20 and it works but noisy is fine with me.

Next thing I'll hear is that its "not as good as" the Flex.

I hate to say it, but the 3x5 foot embroidered American Flag (Made in China) is a PASS.
I was hesitant to try it, both due to the COO and the price, but I have been flying it 24/7 for 2 months and not a hint of fraying.
I've paid $25 for USA made flags that started fraying sooner.
At $6.99, it can't be beat.

SONG, all hand tools at harbor freight are lifetime warrenty, some employees say you have to have the whole set and case but others will just grab you one. I think it depends on the way the wind is blowing if they are nice or not.

Mine is starting to lose some threads in one corner, but it's not "fraying" yet. It's been out for about 6 months, and I'm planning on swapping it with a new one, so I can add some stitching to the corner and put it back out.
In the 3x5 size, I haven't had much issues with fraying in the Valley Forge or Annin flags I've flown (but I have had that issue in larger sizes), but fading has been my biggest issue, and this is as colorfast as any American made flag I've flown.

Not quite true. All "Pittsburgh" brand hand tools are lifetime warranty.
That's their house brand for hand tools, but they sell other stuff.
Their cheapest screwdriver set for example isn't branded at all:
http://www.harborfreight.com/32-piece-screwdriver-set-90764.html
But I still have had a tool from that set replaced by them (I think it was more of a courtesy though). It pays to ask nicely and play stupid sometimes.

Now, just to make things more complicated, not all "Pittsburgh" brand tools are branded on the tool itself (they're nowhere near as careful as Craftsman about that for example).
I have a set of their tin snips:
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-piece-aviation-tinner-snip-set-37325.html
where there is no marking at all on the tools, but the tool roll they came in was printed "Pittsburgh". They were still happy to exchange one when I brought it in without the roll.

That cheap set (which I like for $5 on sale) does have a lifetime warranty according to the website.
