Here's a couple more of the scenic pics. This trail is known as Holy Cross. You get up to Holy Cross city and it's a great spot for lunch. You go above it and the views are awesome. And there is the infamous French Creek that usually eats everyone's lunch on the way up:bounce:

Everything I do is slow. My Jeep is slow, my expedition is slow, my wife's Subaru is slow. Hell, even my fire engine is slow. That's one reason I like the jeep...pull the top and doors off and it feels like you're going fast....kind of...

Funny you should mention that. I've had fast cars (and trucks) most of my adult life. When we sold our race car and then the sand rail I felt like I had been neutered. We had Jeeps for many years before but I always got my speed fix at either the track or the dunes. I was telling my wife last year while we were at a Jeep rally that I don't miss the others like I used to as this is the most fun I have ever had at 3 MPH.:lol_hitti

The best part is that she enjoys it as well whereas the racing she usually sat in the motorhome while I played. This is something we both do together and see the country together. I have also loved meeting all of the fellow Jeepers at gatherings and rallies. Great community overall.

And the best part is.... my Jeeps isn't as slow as it used to be.:bounce:

Hey, you ruined the Guess the Trail game, although that was an easy one. The pics before that are tougher, I'm going to guess Wheeler Lake.

EDIT; oooow, no I looked again, I change by guess to Spring Creek.

After the electrical was completed it was time for insulation and drywall. It's amazing looking back how I got caught up in the work and forgot to take a bunch of pics along the way. Oh well.

I bid out the tape and mud and you can tell nobody wanted the job. All of my bids were excessive so I decided to do it myself. I didn't mind, but I did know with my lack of skill it would take some time. After a little youtube encouragement I set out and got the tape all set.

This is the double corner window I mentioned earlier....for times when my mind vapor locks. I can go look out for a few and just let my thoughts come to me.

This thread is now caught up to where I am with progress on this shop. I am currently doing my second coat of mud as I am going to paint the interior. I wish the top coat went on as easy as the tape part did. I'll struggle through it. Thanks god for pole sanders lol.

I had a couple of buddies come over a couple of weeks ago to work on Jeep projects. I was a really nice break from everything else. All of my focus other than work has been on the shop.

One of my other hobbies is woodworking related stuff. It will be nice to have the space to work on projects.

This is a poker table I built for a fire department charity auction. I've done three so far. Not sure I'll make one this year as the shop has put me behind on everything else.

Hmmm, I might be stumped on this one. I'm going to guess Iron Chest but the position of the cabin doesn't look right. Probably a trail I've never run. Nice work on the poker table.

Beautiful garage and property what a view! How I would love to live in Colorado it is the ultimate place for anyone who loves the outdoors!

I am in the same stage on my garage build getting ready to tape and mud this week so I am looking forward to watching how you finish this inside of yours.

One of my first projects once my garage is finished is going to be a Jeep build. I have always wanted one and Southington Ohio has a nice offroad park which is only 30 minutes from me. My daughter likes them too so I am hoping she gets involved and to make it a more of family event. None of them have any interest in drag racing or hanging out at the drag strip lol.

You're pretty good at guessing...Iron Chest it is. Pretty sad, but last year a lady rolled her Jeep at a steep part of the mountain. She died and her daughter was flown out by helicopter. There was a dog too and the daughter went back up to find it and she did. There was a pretty cool video on it on youtube.

I really enjoy building the poker tables, just wish I had more time to do it. They get auctioned in a live auction at the fund raising gala and pull in about $1500 each.

Thanks for the compliment, and you are right, Colorado has amazing outdoor adventures for whatever you are looking for.

My intent is to do a second coat (it'll need three with my skills lol) and then paint it. If you look at the above picture of drywall, you'll see some copper panels on the ground. I am going to install those as a wainscot to help keep sparks from welding and grinding from getting where they don't need to be. You also see cabinets in there. I will build a workbench around the lowers and have plenty of uppers for storage to keep the common areas clean and orderly.

One of my first projects once my garage is finished is going to be a Jeep build. I have always wanted one and Southington Ohio has a nice offroad park which is only 30 minutes from me. My kids weren't that interested until I took them on a trip with me and let them drive some of the trails. When they get to do that they are excited.

nice setup. if only CO hasnt been taken over by westcoasters and the home prices skyrocketed we would have moved there. But even 4 years ago when we looked, it was already trending above our budget.

The we would have just complained about the mid westerners...:D:D

Yeah, a lot of out of staters have made it tough out here for sure. I was one also back in 1992. Housing prices are pretty darn high but it depends on what you are looking for. Anything with property near the metro area is expensive.

Not a trail but a culvert for our creek bed..

Prior to the culvert going in, my buddy and I were out messing around trying to get up over the 4' concrete wall in the sand. It started to tip and I missed reverse....I told him "hold on,we're going in the Hudson" and over we went. It was a really soft flop in the sand but the psychological aspect messed me up for some time on off camber trails.

I’ll throw a Jeep picture in as well..

LOVE the detached but have a question about the attached as we are looking to build and or builder suggests with economic reasons a nice 39x26 garage that goes 12x56 deep on the third bay is really suite affordable vs building a dteatched. With you having both, would I be happier with the detached or will I be able to work happily in my attached with heat/cooling etc?

When I built my last shop in early 90's I determined it was going to be a bit less cost to add onto my existing attached garage but worried about the kind of work I do in the shop beginning to interfere with the house. Things like machines running, air tools going, grinding noises and then there's also the fumes created entering the dwelling. A co-worker of mine was looking to build near the same time I did and he went the attached route. After a few years he told me he wished he would have gone detached for the reasons mentioned above. Evidently his wife doesn't care for the noises and odors while she's in the house.

After 26 years in that house when we moved to our new house my wife didn't even question that ours would be another detached. In my opinion it is well worth the investment long term if you plan on staying there. If you are looking to sell, the attached will bring more money, especially in some states. In Utah detached garages don't add much value to the property. You have to find someone who wants the property for the detached garage but even then it is going to be pennies on the dollar compared to what you spent to build it.

I have a 13'x50' third bay on my house and there is no way it would be large enough to work on projects and house all of my tools and equipment so I would encourage you to go the detached route even though it is not the cheapest option.

I like the 9 slot grill ... Almost bought one for the wall but somebody beat me to it. Nice looking rig, looks hybrid of parts? What do you have there?

As far as attached vs detached there are many things to consider. Heat and cooling would be nice. In my detached I'll run gas for heat but it won't have AC. I like the attached but my wife can't stand the smells associated with a working shop. Used gear oil smells awful and it can get in the house whenever somebody items the door. Detached also gives me place to go hang out in peace without disturbing other people in the house. Sometimes it gets loud with tools and hammers asking with cussing.

I think it's a personal preference but there are definitely things to think about before committing.

For those of you who like the scenery, this is in Ouray, CO. It's nickname is the Switzerland of America. Trails aren't tough at all as they keep them groomed for the tourist. It is absolutely stunning area.

Well since you asked.... (I'll save the details for a 4x4 forum or something). It's basically an '89 Suburban stuffed in a YJ tub/frame with 1 ton GM axles and Dana 300 transfer case. Grille is from an MB. Narrowed YJ hood (not a fan but it's a hood) and homemade fenders. It's a fun rig and is starting to really show it's age the past few years. Needs a freshening on a lot of things but it's still as reliable as a GM TBI truck which is a good standard. I didn't build it "nice" as I thought it'd be pretty haggard within a few years. It's held together pretty well and I don't wheel like I thought I would (I thought I'd be on buggy trails way more than I am). I should have spent more time putting it together and making it a "cleaner" build. My kids love it and they are starting to move out of the house. I guess it's served it's purpose. If I ever talk of selling it, I get resounding objections from all three. We'll see how it goes for a few more years.

The smells and noise are a concern. We've got a couple of bids from a couple of contractors. Both suggested the 3 car with DEEP 3rd bay for cost. Mike has a point on the nice segregation that you get with a "garage" and a "shop" being independent buildings. We've dreamed up a few other ideas just this morning about getting the house built and having a shop as well. Hopefully the numbers work out. We can do whatever we want but both of us just want to maintain the ability to "play" rather than just pay for a house. That makes me a grumpy kind of guy as I like to go places and do things.

I love builds like that. You can bolt on just about anything but making different things work together is a lot of fun to figure out. Everytime somebody asks what year my Jeep is, I reply "what part".

Same boat. I keep telling my wife that if we wait, it'll be too late to enjoy as much.

While one of my favorite trails for the scenery, it is not technically challenging. Red Cone sits at 12,801 feet. Once you go down the other side there is a trail called radical hill. Just about every time we run it there are mountain goats everywhere. The first pic is of my boy driving.

Love the pictures of Ouray.

My wife and I first went to Ouray in August of 2007. We were actually staying in Durango with some friends and decided to go for a day drive and ended up in Ouray for lunch. We fell in love with the place and have gone back for a week each August ever since. For the last 3 years my wife and I have hosted a small RV gathering with about 12-15 other rigs/couples and have introduced them to the area. We've logged quite a few miles in the mountains around Ouray, Silverton and Ridgeway. Absolutely LOVE that area.

Early August is the best time to see it...all the trails are usually open and there are still plenty of the wild flowers to see. I also really like reading all the history signs there.I couldn't imagine living there back in those days through the winter.

I have been very busy, most of it not on my garage. I did however finally get my final coat of drywall mud on. All I have to do now is sand it and prep for primer. It never failed that when I did have time to work on it the temps were always well below freezing. I went through a bunch of propane to keep it warm.

Looking at the first photos I thought to myself, this guy lives in the same area that I do. Then I saw Aragon's crane lifting trusses and it confirmed that thought.

Fellow Jeep owner here as well. Brought home this rough, ugly duckling as CJ #4 last weekend. Not exactly my type as mine are all heavily modified, but this one will be restored to very close to original (73 Super Jeep). Only 300 or fewer are said to have been built and it still has all of the items that are unique this package. It is likely to get a 401 I have in the shop though, just because it's there.

That's in great shape!

I guess as someone in NY, I'm used to all the Jeeps being rusted away.

There's no such thing as a good TJ any more. CJs and YJs have long since rusted away. I bought a sub $1000 YJ in 2017 as an off road toy and it was really rough - to the point that the body had colapsed and the frame was broken in a lot of spots.

Thanks!

Yep, I'm about a mile and a half east of Legend High. Where are you located? The crane guy was hilarious. The only reason he took the job was because it was close to where his crane is located. He calls it T-Rex and said he doubted it could make it across town lol. He knows how to use it though for sure.

I had a few CJ's in my earlier days. That thing looks great although you have some rust issues (as to be expected). What other rigs are you running?
