Riv, that's my favorite price! :lol_hitti

Those should make a nice workbench. What are you using on top?

Jay

That’s the real question.

I’m open to suggestions

Next is moving the 600 lbs work bench

Riv: one thing that helped me move my heavy bench and other heavy items was these car dollies.

nice looking bench.

as far as a top for the cabinets you just bought if you don't want to spend a lot old commercial solid doors work well. or if you might have access to steel companies they get a lot of their steel plate on pallets and dunnage that is 4x4 that you can pick up cheap and use the 3 or 4 foot 4x4's to make yourself a bench top.

Dollies would be great, except for some stairs.

I’ll have to see about the other tops I’m going to need before I decide what bench top I go with for the cabinets

RIV: it looks like your big bench has some metal framing maybe bolting the top to the base? since you mention stairs you might still need help, but can you remove the top and maybe take the bench down (or up) the stairs in sections.

great looking bench. did you build it?

good luck!!

Drives,

I did build the workbench. Way back on page 3 of this thread is some more pics.

The 1890’s cast iron leg/top corbels are about 145 lbs each.

It is built to come apart for moving, but it’s still no easy task

Couldn’t round up enough help to move the big bench, but I did get the welding table and the old DeWalt table moved today.

Also got the old foreman’s desk .

Just need to get onto the drywall repair work!

And a little shot out the welding area window.

Riv, I like your assortment of work tables. That all wood workbench looks like a beast. Is this DeWalt table from an old RAS?
Pretty sweet view out the welding window...

Jay,

Thanks.

It is a DeWalt RAS base. I love the speckled paint on it!

The “making of a table” thread meets the “ ‘78 F350 Dually project “ thread!

The workbench is making its way to it’s new home. Finally!

Definitely a two man job getting it loaded.

That's the kind of view I want out out my shop window! :pimpflash
Jay

Thanks Jay,

I’m not tired of it yet!

I decided to do a little refresh on the bench top before I reassemble it.

Can’t wait to get it set up again

Riv: one day when my HONEY DO LIST is smaller than my TO DO list i'd love to lend some extra muscle and help you move something to your new home. it looks like PARADISE from my chair.

I have a question for you if you might have an idea on SHO SUGI BAN burning of wood cause i'm thinking of making some raised bed gardens and instead of using treated wood or staining wood I think this treatment might just work. any experience of using the burnt wood against soil/dirt?

if you'd like to post any answers on my thread that would be great. I thought i'd stop in and bump up your thread while looking at a few new things instead of sending a PM.

are you working or on furlow/laid off/not working at the moment with the PANDEMIC BS?

I could use some help dating this old chopsaw.

My dad gave this to me years ago, it’s been in storage.

Still works, and still cuts clean mitres.

My dad owned a cabinet shop back in the 60’s, but it may be older than that.

Thanks guys,

It’s a bench top saw, about the same size as current models.

What looks like a foot pedal is a “not very ergonomic “ handle.

It has an automotive style momentary on Switch on it.

I’ll post a pic later.

Finally getting back to making some progress on the shop!

Matching the 70’s knockdown texture was fun.

Drywall and paint is complete.

Got around to setting my home base, the stand up desk.

Shop is shaping up.
I'm hoping to build a 48x50 garage/shop down here. Can't get anyone to even return calls for several months now.

Thanks,
Still piled high with boxes.

Need to clear out some floor space for a new project that landed in my lap this morning.

Not getting a return call from contractors is frustrating.
But then again, I’ve been guilty of doing it too!

Riv, great to see an update. I really like those stand up desks. I wish I had room for one.

Jay

Thanks Jay,

I’d been looking for one for a long while.

It came up on CL, and I dropped everything, skipped out of work, and ran across town to grab it.

Had a nice little project drop in my lap this weekend.

Going to need some floor space.

Wonderful dory Riv,
How's the condition of the wood?

Royce

A couple problem areas.

A little cutt’n and fitt’n needed. Hard part is going to be finding some tight grain Spruce.

Mostly just a good sand out and recaulking the joints, then some spar varnish.

Should make a great Fall project!d

Excellent project indeed Riv,
You'll be praising those wide planks when you get to caulking!

Less joints, less caulking!

Plaque states boat is patterned after a Mojean design.

Google says they where common in the Seattle area, and there is still a net shed in Gig Harbor. Mojean dates back to early 1900’s in the area.

Wow, having that provenance, make it all that more special.
This is exciting
