$30 worth of silicon bronze.

No wonder boats are so expensive.

I had a co-worker who was driving metal fence posts with a sledgehammer. His wife was holding the post with a level on it to make sure they were going in plumb... She ducked her head in closer to get a peek at the level. You can guess the rest.

Thanks Bears.
Fun little projects like this are about all I have time for right now.

I’ve spent the last few weeks spending my days taking care of my 90 year old parents.

my mom can’t walk much anymore, and is relying on my dad.
My dad ended up in the ER with really swollen feet. 4 more doc appointments later, and he’s finally on the mend.
We’ve got some hard days ahead.

Riv,
Went through this with my in-laws earlier this year, you're right about the hard days ahead. Take it a day at a time, cherish the time you have remaining with them and know they appreciate all you are doing. PM me for my phone number if you ever need a break or just want to vent. Hang in there, better days ahead.

Thank you for that. I really appreciate it.

Watching your parents get old is hard.

Parkinson’s is an evil disease. My mom is in an advanced stage.
My Dad has a collapsed lung and paralyzed diaphragm.

Both are atrophying away.
But, I put a smile on both their faces today.

I’ll take that as a win.

My dad and his mate were putting in timber posts up at our football pitch one evening. My dad on the sledge and his mate holding the posts.
For some reason my dads mate thought my dad had finished hammering and set his hand on top of the post with my dad in mid swing. Queue one badly broken/ cut thumb.

Up with the sun for a nice little row.

Some of you might recognize Lake Campbell, the larger of the two lakes just North of Deception Pass. Rowed around the little island.

Boat did great, and no leaks!😎

The oars are set up for the fiberglass boat, which is wider. This made for some awkward rowing. I’m also thinking of adding riser blocks under the oarlocks to give more room above my knees.

Is there a fix for the oars or do you find another set, I see they cross each other.
Jim,
Since these are already set up for the fiberglass boat, I’ll be picking up another set and placing the stops appropriately for this boat.

Looks like you and the Mrs. had a great day on the water, Riv. Boat looks like it belongs out there.
Cool picture of you with the boat reflected in your sunglasses; would make a great GJ avatar.

It was a good day.
I’m so relieved that it didn’t leak.

Do you even know how hard it is to get a good picture of me???
Hats and sunglasses help. A lot😜

Riv, the boat looks great in the water and no leaks are a good thing. Any luck fishing?
Any bass in that lake?
I’m sure you needed a break from looking after your parents, I know that’s a tough job.

I’ve never fished the lake before, but I believe there are bass and stocked trout.

My wildlife artist friend on Whidbey fishes Lake Campbell. Float tube and fly rod.
I just read that Pass Lake, just South of campbell is fly rod only.

it was closed due to an algae bloom.

Yep, Bart fishes both. He spends most of the Fall running drift boat river trips on the peninsula. He's also the naturalist on a whale watching boat. First two pics are happy customers. Third is Bart.

Looks like he’s got it figured out!

The Skagit has been quite crowded this week with anglers fishing for pinks. Some were doing really well.

I did see some people keeping some that had already turned dark and dull, and had hooked jaws.

I like my salmon bright, and out of salt water.
Once the hit fresh water they go downhill fast.

Agreed. We always released anything that was turning dark. We fished the lower ends of rivers ( Queets, Hoh, etc. ) for the nicest, active fish. When we started encountering too many Indian nets across the rivers, I quit making the trip and Bart turned to drift boat ( we used to wade before).

We’ve had this hutch in our old house for about 20 years.

We had to remove the cornice because our ceiling wasn’t tall enough. I’ve stored the cornice in our attic.

I framed a attic access ladder in, but placed the cornice up there before I installed the ladder.

So, I had to remove the ladder to get the stupid thing down.

looking at giving it a clean up/ refresh and put it up for sale because we don’t have a good spot for it in the new house.

Circa 1930. Story I was told is that it came from a hotel lobby. Who knows???
It has a maker’s label on it, but I couldn’t find it tonight.

PFFFT. Not even a fraction of the mess I dealt with before my move.
That’s only one of three sheds, and a 1000sf garage that look just like it😜

Harbor freight for the win (again).
Moved my metal shorts/recycling bin to the new place. Just don’t know where it’s going to live 🤔
