I’ll take it whatever color it is if it makes less work for my back. 😬 That tub skid looks like the ones they used at Boeing, good storage for your metal shorts.

Jay,

the tub came from my concrete contractor.
He failed to come get it for a year, and I got tired of moving it around the site. Finally came home with me. Works great for scraps!

I really miss Boeing Surplus; that used to be one of my first stops whenever I visited Seattle. They got rid of a lot of perfectly usable stuff- and even sharpened the drill bits and end mills before putting them out for sale

Pugetdude, I miss it too. I went there a few times through the years and got some nice storage cabinets there along with some misc. tools and supplies.
They now use Bidadoo auctions to get rid of stuff.

Boeing surplus was awesome.
Great place to find interesting materials that you couldn’t find anywhere else.

tool crib was always a fun way to spend an hour.

always kinda regretted not picking up a nose landing gear set up for a 747 when I had the chance 🤪

Which one is you, John?
On the right, dark sweater. Cousin Bill with me. Both our families (2 moms and 7 kids) spent our entire summers in a cabin in the woods on a trout stream in Bushkill, PA. Dads would drop both families right after school let out on Long Island, then commute on weekends. Fishing poles and BB guns, we'd be gone from dawn to dusk.

It was great. Spent the whole summer that way for about 7-8 years, until I had summer jobs, football practices, etc.. And I always realized how special it was. Great memories. The family sold the place a few years after I graduated from high school, but not before Bill and I had a monster "cabin party" with about 50 of our friends from both of our towns. Had to show everyone that all the stories were true.

7th coat of varnish.

Technically, it’s a boat again. No books.

Riv. Sorry I took so long to get back to you, some of my watched threads disappeared, I'm sure I hit the wrong button somewhere.
Thanks for sending that my way, I have a 50 cal ash tray from WW ll, a figure made from spent brass and a toothpick holder made from a 44 mag and a 45/70 cartridge. They will look good together on my shelf in the shop.

Finally got to putting a finished end on my salvaged cabinets I installed awhile back.

I had some Fir T&G flooring that I salvaged out of the Washington Shoe Building in Pioneer Square.

The building was completed in 1892, so this flooring had 125 years of wear.

I added a little magnetic strip at the top to hang junk on.

Now I need to get the countertop started!

I’m thinking this one will have horse stall matt.

just need to find a cheap source
Wish I was closer, Riv. I have a bunch of 1/4”+ thick Kevlar/Unobtanium reinforced rubber sheets that were cut out of military aircraft fuel bladders. Designed to take anti aircraft fire. You could beat on them for the rest of your life and not wear them out.

I’m setting up a workbench at the moment and was looking at putting a black ribbed rubber matting on the top. I was going to turn it over and use the smooth side. It was used a lot at Boeing on work tables and it makes a nice topper.
I am just using a solid core door I got for free on CL. The mat is available online.

I’ve had 2’ rubber floor tiles on my workbench for years. I like how it gives a non-marring surface.
The only problem with the tiles is that they slide around a bit. With a one piece, and a small retainer lip(self edge) it should stay put.

Coastal Farm & Ranch had a reasonable price on the 3/8” matt material. With a sheet of 3/4” ply, I’m right at $130 for a 9’ countertop.

I’m liking the little bit of fleck in it!
Ended up with a 9’ x 23” off cut for another project.
