Good luck getting a non-leaky saginaw steering box. I've gone through a couple pumps and a couple gears without ultimate success on my '67 GTO. I hear that the 1st gen Grand Cherokee boxes are better, but they're not exactly a direct swap (some metric to SAE hydraulic adapters are required).
Jehannum, I would think that almost anything is going to be better than what I had. I was carrying around two or three quarts of ATF (that is what they spec instead of power transmission fluid) and having to fill up the reservoir about every other time that I drove the car. It was really bad. From what they said WW Motorcars has sourced a complete new system (not sure from where) and they plan on installing that. Even if it leaks a little it will still be worlds better than what was there.

Fortunately, the saginaw gears and pumps are pretty universal on everything from the 50s on up to the 90s in GM products, so there will never be a shortage.
I'm doing the input shaft seal on my current gear next week sometime.
Quick Mary Kay update: The mechanical work that I planned to do to the car is now basically done. As i updated previously they have rebuilt and cleaned the carburetor and fixed the choke, they welded up a broken exhaust manifold and replaced basically the entire power steering system. More recently they also replaced the oil pan gaskets some hoses, resealed and put new bearings in the rear axle and replaced the ball joints. Finally they took it for a long test drive this week and basically said it’s complete mechanically. I had hoped to have them repair the rust in the front fenders but Ive decided not to do that. They are short staffed in the bodywork department and I would not have gotten the car back for summer if I would have waited to have them do that work. I still need to get the interior and top work done. I’m also going to get new tires. They are not worn much but they are old. And yes, I am planning on driving the car home from Virginia. Hopefully in May or early June.

Captain, Yes. Two main rules of a good road trip: try to stay off the highways and try to avoid eating at any chain restaurant.

You're going to invite all of us to go on that road trip with you when you get a firm date, right? As big as that is, you should be able to fit us all in it. Just make us pay for you gas and food.

Mechanically she is all ready. Just have to do the cosmetic stuff. And yes that is one of a few building WW Motorcars has in Broadway Virginia.
Quick Mary Kays update : seats are out of the car being reupholstered. So I now have a milk crate instead of a seat.
The foam on the back seat had really disintegrated over the years
They suggested I replace the carpet too so I’m doing that. Seats should be done in a week or so. That means only the convertible top needs to be done before I go pick her up.

Silly. For road trips you use plastic lawn chairs secured with self tapping screws. Got to have them properly secured in case of an accident. And if you want that gangster lean, use adirondak chairs.

One of the local panhandlers who sets up shop inside one of the local grocery stores, uses the store’s newspaper ad for padding for his milk crate. He can afford Starbucks, which I saw him drinking my last time there.
If you need a little more height, try out a 5 gallon bucket.
On the serious side, with new carpeting, padding and ulphostery will you have that new car smell for the return trip home?

Finally using the garage for what it was intended is a great feeling.
I know it’s been a long tim since I’ve had an update. Truth is that there has been little progress on Mary Kay. All of the mechanical work is done including sanding and painting the frame of the top.
The only work left to do is putting on the convertible top and to recover the seats. The upholsterer says that’s only two weeks of work but he had been having trouble getting a sample of the white leather we need. We had been waiting 5 or 6 weeks for that. Anyway the leather sample was finally received and approved. I gave him a deposit and the leather is now on order and supposed to be there in a week. Car should be ready for a road trip home over the Memorial Day weekend.
Getting excited now.

Hi everyone. I hope you are all having a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. You might remember that this was the weekend where I hoped to go to Virginia to drive the Cadillac back to Chicago. Well…. That didn’t happen. The seats have been recovered and the top is started but not yet done. I think the first rule of car restoration is that you shouldnt even have a schedule. The second is to send them money when they ask for it but never, ever add up how much you have sent. I haven’t. I don’t intend to.
Right now I am planning on getting the car around June 17th.
Even though I didn’t get the car I’m happy that my wife and I had a productive weekend doing some landscaping. We have basically finished what we wanted to do in the backyard.
We planted in the border areas around the patio. We are hoping that all of the plantings will grow in and fill up the areas of dirt. I also sanded and restained the chair. We have two of those but I moved the other one to the front porch. The back yard was too crowded with two of them. I also bought the solo stove that is under the cover in the photos above. I consider the backyard basically done at this point.
We also worked on the front yard landscaping but we have a number of additional things to do there.

While I’m (still) at it here are some photos of the garage roof deck. Not really done but done enough to use. We have some additional things we want to do including getting a pergola or umbrella, buying a gas grill, adding some storage and lights but we are not in any big rush here. 
We still have not gotten the power line or the internet cable moved so obviously we are not in a huge rush there either

I love the roof top space.
The photo quality is horrible but I did get a couple of photos of my new seats. The door cards look awfully yellow in the photo but supposedly in person the difference isn’t so dramatic . Still might have to get new door cards. Will see

Your rooftop space looks great, as does the new MK upholstery. I bet you're looking forward to oozin' down the street, wavin' to the girls and peelin' out of sight. As someone who has redone the interior of a classic car, I say get new door cards and do it properly. Even if no-one else notices, you'll always know.
So here is another poor quality photo from Virginia. Top is on but not complete. They are waiting for a seal that goes around the rear window. I’m still hoping to fly down to Virginia next Friday so I can drive it home. Not 100% sure that it will be ready however.
