Hey guys long time lurker here! I love this forum and I'm excited to say we started the build on our new house, it will be done Dec 15th 2012. My favorite part of the house is the 4 car (3 door) garage we had customized.

Still have a long ways to go but I figured i'd start this thread with the progress so far.

Here's a quick draft I made a while ago.

Here's the plans.

And the progress so far. Comments and Criticism is welcome!

One thing I regret not doing was making taller garage doors. The thought totally slipped my mind so we are stuck with these 7 foot doors

There are a total of 8 outlets in the garage, including mid wall outlets and coax for a TV mount for those football games! Also had a 220 box wired in for the 4 post lift.

Also I wasn't aware of a pole going in, so kind of disappointed about that, but we'll live with it.

We are adding a window in the back, as well as a door down the road.

Here's a few updates. This picture was taken a few weeks ago but it shows the driveway is complete.

Since then the house has been painted, and we are still awaiting our front door, irrigation system and sod.

with only 3 weeks left to go, my and my girlfriend are getting very bored at my mom's house so I decided to build a work bench for the new garage.

Here's what I came up with. 60" x 72"

Still waiting to get some metal tops made for the top of the work bench.

I cut it to fit my 5 drawer roller cabinet underneath it: (pic from old garage)

I'm going to sit the middle piece on top of the work bench, and will make another area for the top shelf.

Thank you! Those were in my old garage though. I'm thinking about doing the same style, but no red stripe. Just White/ 6" black stripe / dark grey to the floor with Dark grey epoxy flooring with black/white flakes.

Here's were the work bench is going, perfect spot for it.

Thanks guys! Actually my dream would be a 5 car Detached! That way the woman wouldn't complain about the noises from the impact or compressor, or the fumes! But I'm very happy with this, it's a nice upgrade from my old 2 car garage

Here are some updated pics, we close on the house in 14 days!!!

Outside is pretty much done except for some paint on the columns, lighting and we are waiting on our front door to come in.

Nice and very,very timely! We are building a new home and the builder was trying to show us how the porch would look with the concrete overhang and stone columns. I sent him a pic of your front porch and he said that's exactly what it will look like.

Looks great! Looking forward to an update when it's finished! We just broke ground for our new home...and have a similar 4 car attached garage with 3 doors. Pretty excited for all the space! After you mentioned the garage opening I had to check my plans...I was happy to find the doors are 8 feet.

That's where you and the contractor made a huge mistake. You want to put a door on the back of your house, you don't want to put it down the road as it serves no useful purpose other than different people will be using it and won't take care of it. Next thing you know it will all be graffitied up. Never put a door on down the road. I know for a fact because I did that once and next thing I know, it was stolen

Other than that....great looking place. Can't wait to see the finished pics of everything.

It really looks nice, cool to get into a bigger space. Is the bench going to have a flat metal top or are you going to do a backsplash and bend the front down to face the 2x4 frame? Either way, it's gonna be cool!

I'm not sure what you mean about people using the door or stealing it. When we told the builder we wanted to add a door, they wanted to charge us an extra $950. My brother-in-law builds houses, and we can do it ourselves for way cheaper than that, so we just had the builder frame it, and come spring we will install it. That way I can keep the yard tools in the back part of the garage and it will serve as part as a shed, since we aren't allowed to have out buildings in our neighborhood.

Thank you, I'm real excited. The bench top will just have a sheet of sheet metal folded over the plywood top. I'll remove it so I can fold it over it, and then secure it back down to the 2x4 frames.

I was a bit confused by that comment as well. Our builder wanted $1050 for a man-door. Gave it a pass. At times, it would be convenient but it was going to swallow up too much room. That doesn't seem to be an issue in yours! Lovely garage.

I think he meant literally "down the road" as in location wise. Not down the road time wise.

Here's the paint scheme I think I'm going to do. I just did this real quick in photoshop, i'm no expert by any means.

Do you all think I should paint the support beam to match or just leave it white?

Pretty nice size attached garage! And yes, you should paint the support post, if it's going to be in the way, might as well make it fit into the garage...

Alright, I picked up a pretty nice Craftsman 5 drawer ball bearing bottom tool chest off Craigslist for only $50 the other day. I went to slide it under the work bench I made for a 26" cabinet. and realized that it didn't fit. I forgot to include the width of the 2x4's as the measurement, so I made some modifications and I was able to fit the chest underneath.

I'm still not sure what to do about the top of the work bench, I'm open to suggestions. I wanted to do aluminum sheets on the top. but I do not have a brake, and After folding my other piece of sheet metal on the bottom shelf, I think it will look like **** if i do it on the top.

I'm guessing here but the comments about the door being graffiti'd or stolen when fitted down the road are "down the road" and NOT on your property.

1/8" sheet metal or if you like nice shinny stainless steel.

or 3/4" formwork timber with the smooth black surface, depends on if you are going to weld or bash things on it.

Not sure if this would work in all applications, but I got a nice piece of rubber matting from Rubber-Cal and it works well for my purposes. I got a heavy 3/8" ribbed pattern. I use it for all my cabinet toppers.

They probably had to frame it in due to fire code.

Until a year ago, the builders here were not even drywalling the garages, except for the wall between the house and the garage. I was lucky that a fully drywalled garage was the new standard as of 2010. Honestly, I am very jealous of the craftsmanship/workmanship/building practices I see out of the States. It may not be the same everywhere in Canada, but my city is lagging way behind in what we get for our money. /rant

Alright, here's an update. We were supposed to move in last Friday 12/14 but the underwriters were really dragging their feet and couldn't get their work done on time.

Anyways, finally today we are schedule to close!!

Also I had a 30am breaker installed in the garage for 220 access for the lift down the road.

I'll post some pics after we get all moved in and I get the garage done
