Since you guys like pictures - that brings my milwaukee tool collection up to:
1-L.jpg

+ 7 chargers, a dozen batteries, a bunch of hand tools, etc.

The two heated coats I ordered should be here next week and I need to get around to ordering a 2763 before spring.

I was not challenging you, I wanted to.know what you were doing with the railroad ties...and I was just creating awareness as far as the treatment on those ties might give your zinc coated lags a,short life...I do not know this to be a fact, I just know it is a possibility,

No worries mate!

Although I have no idea where you got "zinc coated" anything from? :dunno:

I'm well aware of how impacts vs non-impacts, etc work (I have 50+ air tools). You were reading WAAAAAY too much into my question/post - I was simply expressing that my M12 didn't have the oomph needed so I was looking to get something with a bit more kick when working with wood (and not wanting to pull out the airlines) and I was trying to decide between the M12 and M18 fuels (etc).

That said, I do appreciate you taking the time to pass on your knowledge!

Cheers and thanks!
Ed

p.s. the 2763 has way more than enough kick to do the 180 ft/lb Sprinter lugs.

p.s.s. I apologize for not using the correct terms re: impact - I didn't know Milwaukee had a non-impact 1/2" driver so I assumed mentioning 1/2" (and lug nuts) everyone would know I was referring to the 2763.

Hey Gents,

I didn't know about this (if it was posted in this thread I missed it) but I thought I'd share in case it helps someone else..

I decided to run to Home Depot and pick up the M18 fuel combo pack - Drill and 1/4" impact. This one:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauke...XC-Combo-Kit-2797-22/203639295?N=5yc1vZc1xyZ6

It sells for $399.
It was in the store for $399.
The price tag above the case said $399.

The kid that works there said "check this out!".. grabbed the box and took me to a cash register. When we rang it up the computer went:
$399 - 150 = $249.

I paid $249 for it!

It is some sort of Christmas sale taking $150 off. I don't know what the details are but I really appreciate the kid at our local store telling me about it because there was no signage in the tool area!

4-L.jpg

Is this part of the sale discussed in this thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=264092&highlight=home+depot

Safe bet a lag will be zinc.
It's cheapest, most popular good rust resist.
"I didn't know milwaukee had a non-impact 1/2" driver..." - of coarse they do its called a 1/2" drill lol. In my parts we would never call an impact gun a driver. A driver is a drill, meaning it drives screws. Mfg always labeled drill/driver. I read so much into your post because I'd love to help, but I had some deciphering to.do. i can't answer your question if I don't understand what you're asking. It helps when we all speak in the same language using industry terms, don't mean to sound rude my friend. We all had to start somewhere. Besides, some pro on here might copy my text and correct all my mistakes lol they are all welcome btw nice tools! Have fun with them.

No one makes a 1/2" impact driver. The tool with the ring on the end that you slip bits into, those are impact drivers. Someone may make one that big, but I've only ever seen 1/4" ones. The tools that have the square end on them where you put a socket, those are impact wrenches.
Thank you rocket. I thought I was all alone as no one made this correction. I couldn't make sense of the post due to the mis use of the tool names.

Bosch makes a 1/2" impact wrench with 1/2 driver-like end. Not what it is used for.

http://www.cpotools.com/bosch-hth18...id=bosch-cordless-impact-drivers-and-wrenches
They do not. I promise you this site (and I've never seen cpo make this mistake) has the wrong model pictured. Pictured is an impact driver. This is off the hip, do feel free to investigate. Normally sites like amazon, sears and Wal-Mart.make these mistakes all the time.

Yea look at your link it says 18v high torque impact wrench
on the page it says 12v high torque impact wrench 500' lbs. Pretty impressive for a 12 volt huh? Lol

I stand corrected, its a 7/16 hex anvil. I am agitated that its marketed as an impact WRENCH. The whole idea of wrench is the square drive. Guys who work with driving LAGS or boring 1" holes through 6*6 pt can't do it with a 1/4 hex impact driver, so this high torque with the 7/16 chuck. bosch daredevil augers, speedbore max 3 flute spades the Milwaukwee wood eaters, (my name for them) and the big forstener bits have the 7/16 shanks so I would die to get my hands on this Bosch. Inever new one existed, wonder if there are other brands same concept, but until this me and everyone I knew used a 1/2 drill to use these bigger 7/16 attachments...AWESOME, but again, why call it an IMPACT WRENCH? A mechanic will buy this blindly, get it and wonder why he can't get his socket on lol wtf Bosch!

So I have a set of shockwave adapters I use in my drivers...

48-32-5033.jpg

When I use them is it ok if I then call it an impact wrench?

:hide: I keed! I keed!

p.s. I think the confusion between using the term "driver" and "wrench" for me personally fell in that I always refer to my ratches as a "1/4 inch drive" or "3/8 inch drive" and ignorance had me transposing that to the impact wrenches.

Tool Fanatik, Milwuakee actually makes multiple versions of the 7/16 impact as well. Here is a link to a ToolGuyd post discussing them:

http://toolguyd.com/large-hex-impact-wrench-uses/

I always wondered about it, but it makes a lot of sense when you realize the intended market.

Yeah I was way too confused and kinda wanted to know what was going on. Also wanted to help Geek get his point across better so we could help him better.

Not exactly. A drill is a drill because you drill (holes) with it. A driver is a driver because you drive (screws) with it.

And of course, an impact gun is really an impact wrench, just a slang term for it I guess.

Exactly right in regards to a drill drilling holes and a driver driving screws. A drill is a drill/driver because it performs both. My point to geek was when you say driver, one would think drill.

Funny I've never seen this link but the exact intended uses for these impacts that they list, I listed in my second post concerning these impacts. Can I get an amen! Lol
Ok now that I've tooted my own horn let me say this...I have NEVER seen one of these impact wrenches, but I absolutely need one now. These things look monstrous! I want one!!!

I need to chime in!

Drill to drill
Driver to drive
There are hammer drills, and impact drivers.

I know we can buy those lame lil power screw drivers that are like 4v...

Impact wrenches are designed to be used with sockets and mechanic stuff. That said, with the right attachment you can use them to drive screws, drill, brush, power a lil toy car, cooking and baking, shaving?

We can use impact drivers as impact wrenches or drills with the right attachments, I do it all the time with counter sinks... I use a worn 18v ryobi impact driver to work on my cars. I use the attachments previously mentioned for 3/8" sockets

We can use our drills to brush off something with a wire brush attachment... I even know about people using 18v drills to power little powerwheel toy cars!

The only thing I see a regular corded drill used for in a jobsite tho is to stir a bucket of paint. :)

This is something we all know so what are you saying exactly?
The issue I was trying to clear up was a member seeking advice, but in his description he says things like a big 1/2'' m18 driver for taking lugs off. We all need to be using industry terms or at the least if you are unsure call it what it is. In other words the name on the box when you baught it or pn. We will then know what tool you are referring to and be able to help your situation much quicker.

That Home Depot deal is good IF you want a hammer drill combo but you have to pay TAX, IMHO I find the free tool/xc4.0 batt offers better thru CPO Milwaukee, YMMV

My only experience with Milwaukee has been with the M12 3/8 ratchet ,which I like a lot when there is lots of bolts and nuts to work on.

I now have a job ahead where I need to open lots of bolts and there is not too much space available. I do have a IR 2115QTimax but sometimes the hose seems to be in the way in tight spaces. After reading lots about cordless impacts I today bit the bullet and ordered the 2654 impact with two compact 2.0 batteries. As its not sold here locally I ordered it online without a charger. I already have a European 220V model of M12/M18 -combo charger which hopefully is compatible.

ANybody have the m12 stick light?? How do you like?

I like it well enough but not at retail of $70 to $80. Honestly I reach for my Nextec fluorescent EVERY time over the stick light, but the Nextec is now discontinued or hard to find and run time is short at about 1.5 hrs per battery. Why do I like Nextec more? For one I seem to just prefer fluorescent light in the dark, greasy recesses of vehicles, and the two molded-in magnets are awesome, incredibly useful, and powerful enough. However Milwaukee did a good job w the M12 stick light in terms of light quality; if you didn't know better you'd swear it's high quality incandescent or halogen.

I like the looks of the more recently released M18 as it articulates.

Funny you mentioned:
the total is $429.
I just paid $429 shipped w/NO tax for:

Qty Product Code - Product Name Price ---<wbr>------------------------------<wbr>---------------
1 MILN2731-22 - NEW Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18V Li-Ion 7-1/4" 429.00
1 MILN2781-20 - NEW Milwaukee M18 18V 4-1/2" - 5" Grinde 169.00
1 MIL-M18FUEL-CHOICE3 - Milwaukee - Free Battery or tool -169.00 <wbr><wbr>
Sub-Total: 429.00 Tax: 0.00 Shipping & Handling: 0.00
TOTAL: 429.00

And I will have the 7 1/4 m18 fuel saw, M18 fuel grinder, and 2 xc 4.0 batteries :rocker:, cause I already have several drills and drivers. Like I always say; YMMV

I'm a Milwaukee addict too although not as bad as some of you. Came from the Craftsman C3 system and as those tools break or frustrate me I switch. :)

My journey started in 2011 with the M12 multitool, hammer drill, and impact driver set. Then I added the right angle drill, 3/8 ratchet, LED magnetic light and heated jacket.

I started with the M18 system with the Fuel hammer drill and added the vacuum, Hackzall, and blower. Looking at the Fuel impact driver next.

My battery collection is not that impressive:
3x M12 RedLithium
2x M12 RedLithium XC
2x M18 Redlithium XC
2x M12 chargers
1x M12/M18 chargers

I love the tools - fit great in the hands, powerful, with a long warranty. As long as they keep up with it, they most likely will be the last brand I use.

Hate you

I want that set sooo bad for $250. Just don't NEED it. :willy_nil

Yep, I already got the 2604 Fuel hammer drill recon'd or I'd be all over a new 2797-22 kit for $250. I've already got 4 other Milwaukee 1/4" hex impact drivers so I don't really NEED the M18 Fuel one from the kit I guess.....

I wish we could get metric nutsetters here. It'd be a lot less clunky than the 1/4" hex to 3/8" square drive adapter I use now.
