My wife used mine last night for the first time to tear apart some rusty hardware on some pieces for metal art. I warned her, it's far powerful than you'd expect. I walked away and then heard her pull the trigger immediately followed by "Holy sh**, sweet!"

There is a rubber boot available to cover the top of this. IMO that's a "must have" item too keep things in good shape..

ok, so give me some advice.
i know i can benefit from having a 1/2 or 3/8 impact, not sure which to get. the high torque fuel looks almost unwieldy to use in most situations. but i don't want to purchase the 1/2 non high torque and end up not having the power to get things done.
i've got 200 gift card to northern tool (unfortunately.... i bought a few things from there and wasn't very impressed. all their welders are cheap looking, and they sell pretty much everything at maximum price unless it's their house brand). and i need to use it up, they have **** for sales all the time. absolutely nothing good on BF and nothing good at all on their "cyber weekend" going on now, so i just want to use it.
chime in. who here has the fuel 3/8-1/2 impacts. which one feels like best bang for the buck?

my 3/8 compact fuel takes off lug nuts from small cars no problem and light duty trucks (7/8 socket) with 2-3 hammers
i used my 1/2 high torque fuel for a rack and pinion and lower ball joints on a 2005 ram 1500 4x4 and it had no problem with any of the bolts, i don't think my 3/8 would have had the power to take off the axle nuts and ball joint nuts with the nylon loctite in them
if you are only going to be buying one go with the high torque 1/2 it is just as powerful at my nitrocat 1200k, which dosnt bat an eye at Honda crank pulley bolts which are famously hard to get off

i guess i'm not to worried about the honda crank bolt stuff. they are only 130-145 ft/lbs. my supras crank bolt is 247 ft/lbs and i was able to do that without power tools before. i'm probably going to pick up the high torque fuel because there are a slew of tough to remove bolts on cars and such that i know i am probably going to need it on later (famous last words of all people who buy tools that get used twice a year lol).
my cp 732 has 430 ft/lbs of torque and it sometimes struggles with lugnuts after a long winter (even after being torqued down correctly). so either my studs and nuts are getting rusty, or my impact isn't running full bore. i'm not gonna upgrade all my air lines to run my 3/4 stuff just because when the fuel impact runs near the same. just nice to know you've got the power when you need it.
plus. with the other two impacts, they are found in stores more often and for deals more often from what i've seen.
I'm pretty much sold on the Milwaukee stuff for my tool upgrade. Whats the difference between tbe m18 vs m18 fuel? Do the batteries cross? Is it worth the $100 difference for a fuel set vs reg? If you have the impact driver do you still use your normal m18 drill or does the impact driver cover it?
Have the wife sold...trying to decide what to purchase first.

regular m18 is brushed, m18 fuel is brushless motor, batteries are universal, if its 18v it takes all the m18 batteries (there are a select few tools that require the XC batteries, select few). same for 12v line.
worth the 100 difference.... not in terms of monetary and return unless you count the high torque impact which delivers 60% more power for only 40 bucks more. the others have other features which i feel are worth it. like the 3 speed hex impact modes on the 1/4 driver.
depending on your application. you aren't going to use an impact to drill into steel. nothing replaces a drill completely. but for driving most fasteners the impact gets it done more efficiently. a drill you'll use for things like polishing kits, drilling holes in wood and metal, driving delicate screws using the clutch. things like that
the impact is an all around tool, can be used for light drilling where theres no risk of breaking bits. driving lags and fasteners is very simple and light work for it. can be used to adapt sockets to for nuts and bolts.
Ahhh...brushless! Gotcha. I wondered 15years ago why I had brushless motors in my rc cars and not tools. Thats worth it.

For the guys running the m18 3/8 fuel impacts, do you recommend I run the 2.0 battery's for weight reduction or buy the kit with the new 4.0 batteries? I plan to use it daily for automotive repair. Thanks!!
