IMHO I feel the handle/grip on 12v Fuels are slightly fatter than either the 18volts or the brushed 12v tools. I noticed the difference right away. when I started on the M12 fuel line. Its not much of a difference but I actually find the brushed 12v and either 18v line slightly more comfortable for a smaller hand.

So I'm also thinking a 18v brushless compact kit might be a great compromise in size, weight, and power. But the fit and finish of the brushed 3/8 drill, impact driver and 2 speed screwdriver is nothing to overlook either, and could probably get all 3 tools for the price of 2 pc fuel combo too



Still since your building on the 12v line you cant really go wrong with the M12 Fuels from any performance standpoint. The drill is a real powerhouse plus 1/2 chuck but also I favor the hex screwdriver for balance, it has same body as the drill just shorter.

And of course I like ALL of the 12v Fuel impacts as well

I've been real tempted to pick my self up the kit to get that M12 spot light and then using that as a "Well I have them and they're awesome" to get a kit for her as well. And actually, I could buy two M12 FUEL kits for the price of the M18 FUEL kit...

I think the M12 Fuel 2597 kit is awesome, perfect for a homeowner, especially a female. I sold a M12 Fuel hex impact to a friend for his wife who is an interior designer, she had a Dewalt hex impact 20V before and likes the M12 Fuel way better. Also sold a M12 hex driver to a guy for his wife, she loves it also. The drill has 30 ft-lbs and the impact 100 ft-lbs, what non-heavy duty homeowner needs more than that?

Question for you guys that own the M12 FUEL drill or impact driver. I'm looking to buy my girlfriends sister a drill driver as a housewarming gift. She just moved out to some property in a house that needs some fixing up. I bought her dad the M18 FUEL drill driver set last Christmas and now her whole family all borrow them and love those tools. I'm leaning towards the M12 for her though because she's tiny (5'3" <130lbs) though still a real hard worker. I love all the M12 stuff I've got and I already got her a heated hoodie so she's got a charger and a few batteries. I think that being smaller and lighter while still powerful the M12 would be a good choice, however I really can't verify myself as I don't own the M12 FUEL drill or even the M18 FUEL drill. My 18V drill driver are Bosch. She's putting up a lot of fencing right now but after that I think the work will mostly be interior.

The M12 Fuel stuff is awesome and quite capable. The impact isn't for putting in lag bolts but it'll do normal screws just fine. The drill is terrific for just about any normal home owners drilling needs.

I was able to bore 3/4" holes through the wide end of 2X12 headers when running cable in an older doctors office. I won't say it went right through like butter, but it did the job in the end.

The M18 Fuel Compact set is only slightly larger and that size is mainly just the battery itself.

I bought the M12 as a smaller/lighter setup to put in my mobile tool bag for when I go off site. I couldn't be happier with it for that purpose.

The M12 FUEL is my go to for anything and everything it will work on. I do have to pull out the M18 FUEL at times. I use all M12 stuff when I can, especially the hackzall, but some things just need a swift kick in the @$$ from my M18 tools. It's mainly the size and weight of the M12 that I like. Even my 5 YO uses the M12 drill, hackzall with no blade and impact when he's 'building' AKA putting holes and screws in all of my spare/scrap wood. Plus I have extremely large hands so they fit nice in my hand too.

Well if your narrowing it down to either the M18 Fuel or the M12 Fuel I will agree with the others and the M12 Fuel.

The nice thing about M18 is it opens you up to more powerful tools like the Sawzall, grinder, high torque impact, circular saw, etc.

There will even be a high powered M18 leaf blower and string trimmer next spring.

Do you guys have a recommendation for a good bang for the buck tool to remove ceramic tile from a concrete slab? I'm set up for both M12 and M18 but also don't mind going with a corded tool if that's best. Looking to remove about 500 sq. ft. of tile.

If it's stubborn - yes corded for that.. Some tile jobs are so badly done you can seriously pop all the tiles off whole and reuse them. You'd be able to get away with a cordless tool for that, but it shouldn't be like that.. If the tile is laid right they should brake into pieces trying to get them off. For that your talking about a tool that's gonna be under a pretty long duration of constant use..

You should probably look into a demo hammer / hammer drill / chipping gun that has a rotation lockout feature - meaning it' can just hammer, without the spinning for a drill bit. Use it with a flat or angled chipping bit (SDS style). Without having the floor in front of me, you could probably get away with something like a corded Bosch Bulldog if it's set with a thin set. It's been a while since I've had to do this, but the bulldog is def on the lighter duty end of the spectrum if you get lucky. If it happens to be mortor bed, your gonna need something a lot bigger, a lot more time, and someone to yell at to let off some steam..

What you can do is try a few pieces by hand with a hammer and wide masonry chisel or an old putty knife even. See how it goes.. If it's bad it might just be worth renting something bigger from HD for a day or two instead of buying. Sometime with demo it's just trial and error.. Hard to guess how it will go without a few exploratory tiles done first.

What about the M18 Sawzall with a the material removal blade set? It comes with a grout removal blade and two scrapers. A Hackzall may work too, but I'd imagine the Sawzall would make quicker work of it.

This might be a better option if they were self stick tiles on a plywood floor.. The sawzall really isn't meant to impact anything that won't give, and it has a pretty long stroke too. You hit something solid with that and bad things might happen, if it doesn't just bend that scraper blade first.. You can try it, but personally IMO, I don't think you'd have good results unless it was a really ****** tile job..
Stranger things have happened though.. Enter at your own risk.

Just got the M12 Rover Flood Light, its pretty cool. Has 2 powerful magnets and the pressure clamp. Was skeptical if the magnets would hold it with an XC battery, but it held perfectly on a car hood and a wire shelving rack at 90 degrees. The clamp can be tough to position but is best at holding horizontal not vertical. Put it up against the old standard M18 Hex Flood, the M12 is not as bright but its close. Still amazing how good the old M18 is, they should release a V2 of it. The M12 Rover I can see owning 2 of them, perfect for car work, might not need 2 M12 sticks anymore.

Zoro has near retail prices on the M18 Fuel 2712 or 2713 SDS Plus Rotarys, both have hammer only mode, with a 30% BF deal they would be close to $200 bare tool. There are $20 SDS Plus bits made for the exact purpose of tile removal.

The throw of a sawzall may make the job messier than it needs to, get the SDS, it will come in handy in the future for many other things.

I received my rover light yesterday from the Acme 15% off sale. I was very surprised at how strong the magnets were, literally yanked the light out of my hand and jumped onto the steel post. I am amazed at how well Milwaukee has done with their lights and at the pricing you can get them at.

Yeah, I had put it in a tool bag that was on a towel on the trunk of a car and it was still stuck on there good. Its gotta be a top 3-4 light of the 18 I know Milwaukee has made, 14 of which I have, will see how it ranks after I get my M18 search light.

The old one is nothing to shrug off.. The lack of dual power is really it's only shortcoming. The convience of it is great though.

I like it.. It's pretty good for what I do. The flood light could be better (brighter) for outdoors. A boost feature would be great for that. I'd be willing to give up some runtime for a brighter floodlight feature. It's good at a somewhat close distance, ( mind you I'm comparing it to Milwaukee's other flood lights) but the light doesn't carry too far before it dissipates in the flood mode.. I like that I can carry it down the road and look at power and telephone lines with the spot, and then place it on the ground, rotate the head and switch to flood to use as an area light if I need to do something on the ground with tools..

I used the Dewalt and the Milwaukee on a job side by side a few weeks ago.. Late at night on a pitch black road after a car/pole accident. The Dewalt actually has a nicer spot area (a little bigger I think), it's lighter and the pistol grip is kinda nice. But the Milwaukee is just built much better, has the dual modes, doesn't tip over if you place it upright on the ground.. If I "HAD" to pick only one light to keep at home and use for small jobs out of everything I have, I'd probably pick the search light. It's very versatile. Indoors the flood feature is great. Very good option for a contractor or electrician if they only wanted to carry one small light for indoor work. You can aim the head EXACTLY where you want it, instead of always feeling like you want a worklight aimed between their detents. The old hex shaped m18 flood is always good at annoying me like that. I'm never happy with the angles I'm stuck with.

I like the fan too.. Only change I'd like to see on the fan would be a variable speed (dimmer style) speed selector, instead of just the 3 speeds they give you.. I used it a few times on my nightstand and even on the low speed it still throws a lot of air if you're close to it. It's good for keeping the bugs off you in the evening in the summertime if your messing around with the car outside.. I cleaned the engine bay in my Honda, installed frame sliders on my gsxr ,and it kept the mosquitos at bay both times.

I STILL haven't returned those jackets. I'm gonna get stuck with them if I don't get on that soon..

I'm gonna offer another bribe to a vendor at work to see if they can get me that underground m18 cable cutter... It won't get used a whole lot, we do more placing new stuff these days then removing old, but that's no excuse.. Lol

Just used the old rocket light tonight that just runs off of batteries while setting a few fence posts. The guy I was working for was so amazed at how a battery powered light could really be that bright. Then I came home to my dad using my rover light on the front porch to replace the lights that had burned out on the porch light.
Acme was a little slow on delivering my order from the last purchase, they used FEDEX smart post which takes an extra day for most people because it sits at the post office for the rest of the day it's delivered waiting for the mail carrier to deliver it the next day. It helps to have family work at there and bring it to you at the end of the day.
I will probably end up using the 20off100 for the searchlight and the impact surge unless home depot ends up discounting one of them on the promo.
