I just bought the Milwaukee 15 gauge angled... fired 3 nails excitedly and I think it's going back. Just doesn't feel right compared to an air nailer to me, seems to have more kickback as there is less hammer speed I'm guessing, I don't like the weight balance, etc. Not impressed - it's going back to HD.

It doesn't seem to lack power. I just don't like anything else about it. And for $399 the kit only has a single 2.0 battery. I have a BAZILLION 5.0 batteries, and I'm up to 5 9.0 batts now... but in a nailer I'll definitely take a light-weight battery as the tools are heavy enough as it is. $50 premium for a single 2.0... pfft.

Get the Ryobi. Reviewed much better than the Milwaukee. No kickback, never locked-out, and sank all nails. as I type this, I amy be thinking of the brad nailer, but I've only heard great things about the Ryobi, nothing great about the Milwaukee. especially considering price

I wish it weren't so, but every once and a while there is a bad apple. I hoped better for the M12 vac and flashlight (black barrel), but was disappointed with both immediately. Can't wait for v2

My dad has a Milwaukee 18V impact driver (with the pull chuck piece) and the charger that charges the boxy slide-in battery and the cylindrical battery.

What can be bought that uses either of those batteries?

He has that charger and the driver on the right.

https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/cordless

everything here that is listed as either M18 (the boxy slide in battery) or M12 (the cylindrical battery).

M28 is something different.

in general, tool numbers are usually NNNN-BB(LL)

where NNNN is the model number, BB indicates bare tool (20), or kit (tool, battery, and charger (various numbers greater than 20, indicating either number of batteries, or capacity of batteries)). LL is also optionally used to indicate things like capacity of batteries.

sometimes you will see a BB of 80. this seems to be used only by CPOTOOLS.com, to indicate refurbished tools.

if you are looking for additional batteries, look on ebay, prices there are the best, but make sure the battery says "milwaukee" on it. there are a lot of clones out there. when you search for batteries ("milwaukee M18 battery" will get you started until you get a handle of the model numbers, which are a completely different format from the tools), there is a check box on the left hand side labeled "milwaukee". select that, and it will get rid of a bunch of the off branded batteries, but not all, so be careful.

batteries of both styles are available in a large amount of capacities, so make sure you are comparing similar batteries. as an example, a 5AH (amp hour) M18 battery is likely worth 5$ more than a 3AH one, since it has almost twice the capacity.

interestingly, there does not seem to be a lot of logic in the pricing of batteries on ebay, prices vary wildly, while tools dont seem to fluctuate that much.

good luck. it is a very frustrating place to play, since model numbers dont seem to have structure that allows you to quickly grasp what you are looking at, but they are pretty nice tools, and seem worth the effort

Hey bud,

Hope you don't mind me asking - how much did you pay for the combo kit? I just picked up that same set myself with a non-Fuel Hacksall for $229 +VA tax.

Thanks!
I believe that's what I paid for this one. I figured the hammer drill would be useful.

Nah the -80 is Milwaukee's standard to indicate a recon, not specific to CPO. And of course the same where -81 is kit w 1 battery, -82 is kit w 2 batteries.

I paid $167 on eBay for a new kit April of last year. Has been great and a nice upgrade from the brushed options.

CreteCoater + bsechris - Thanks!

OH! Forgot to mention, the first 2597-22 kit was essentially DOA.

It was acting CRAZY. I would insert fully-charged batteries and the LED would light up, the tool would work, etc. I set the tool down and pick it up not less than a minute later and nothing. I would have to remove and reinsert the batteries for the tools to "register." This applied to both the 1/2-inch Hammer Drill AND the 1/4-inch Impact Driver.

It was maddening. I took the kit back to Home Depot for them to exchange. Even though I'm invested in the M12 line, this doesn't give me much long-term confidence. Just my $0.03.

^^^^ there's a history of M12 batteries not making great contact. My 2438 sander did it when I first got it, then it's been fine ever since.

My 2467 RAID continues to not like some batteries while working perfectly fine on others (just yesterday in fact).

Interesting and good to know, thank you.

I think I ruled out the batteries because they worked fine in the ratchet, 3/8-inch impact, and two saws. :headscrat

Yeah I'm not saying it's okay. I think it's some sort of design flaw that Milwaukee is either not aware of or choosing to not acknowledge ("if we don't look at it it doesn't exist").

I solved the problem in my RAID by just putting in a different battery and it was 100% happy.

Come to think of it I've had the holsters for the heated gear do the same thing, but I've always been able to get any battery to work by just re-inserting multiple times.

The RAID would only freak out once it started impacting so I think the vibration made a questionable contact fail. But with a different battery it drove numerous screws without issue.

Regarding the reconditioned tool kits, do they come with new batteries or are they somehow reconditioned, too?

It depends. Most seem reconditioned and will have weird scribbling on them with an awl. I think if they get a kit with batteries just trashed or missing they pull new batteries to put in the kit but they'll still have the scribbling so they don't have to warranty past a year. And I'd guess they keep a pile of "used" batteries to pull from first.

edit: I wouldn't be afraid of recon batteries. I'm sure they load test them before sending them out, and honestly if it works when they ship it it'll probably work for years to come.

Most people complain about cosmetic defects on recon stuff, which I don't understand. You're buying recon. It's like buying a used car - you've got to expect some dings, scratches and scuffs.

thanx. i wasn't sure, i have never seen it anywhere else. do others sell refurbished milwaukee tools?

Yes, although I can't think of any retailers to prove my point at the moment. It does seem in the last ~10 years CPO has pretty much cornered that market, but I don't know if Milwaukee has an exclusive agreement with them for selling recon.

Ok if you search homedepot.com for "Milwaukee reconditioned" you get some hits, mostly corded grinders. The one I clicked on was not in stock, I didn't check the others.

So at least theoretically HD sells some recon stuff.

My locally owned hardware store has no less than 50 part numbers of recon Milwaukee product at any one time - selection varies but there's usually always drill/impact combo's, M12 heated clothing, corded tools, older models, oddball items, etc. I've picked up a few recon items for work there and had no issues with them, a couple $99 super sawzall's (corded), etc.

2861 vs 2763

I am only disappointed that the 2861-20 did not come with the protective boot that was "speculated" to be included with the gun.

You got the bare tool correct? That might be why.

If you get a bare tool search light they don't come with the shoulder strap.. kinda petty IMO esp for a <$1 item.

I have been unable to locate a boot to purchase, which also helped to grow my expectations that one may be included. Yes I did buy the tool only. If anyone finds the boot available to purchase please share a link.

Thanks for the comparison pics!
The size difference is amazing, this looks perfect for home-mechanic work.

is there a pdf of the whole m12/m18 catalog available? they actually have a pretty nice web site, but sometimes it is easier to just page thru a catalog.

I find small color booklets included in kits. Usually specific to the line purchased either M12 or M18

Other than that I haven't seen a pdf catalog download...though someone else may know of such.

I don't exactly know how you are currently viewing products now, maybe by type... drill etc,

I find on the Milwaukee page if you go power tool/navigate by/choose system/ then either M12 M18 or M28 it helps narrow down the cordless tools options and can choose up to 36 items per page

But that doesn't seem to be option though for other links like instruments, accessories, and hand tools.

Maybe it helps some :dunno:

So kind of curious how different are Ridgid 18v slide battery packs from Milwaukee's :headscrat

I never looked closely.

Just seen another Ridgid multi directional panel light 2500 lumens in an email today. (I guess it's new) :dunno:

Has an optional tripod mount too

http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-G...17+-+RIDGID+Product+Showcase&utm_medium=email

So now I wonder if Milwaukee will ever bring back the 2360 light and free battery offer, I hedged on buying that deal the first time around.

The kit does not include the boot, nor is there a parts breakdown available yet so there is no known part number.

But a quick google search came up with this
