The friction ring model also has a slower first speed for easily running down nuts/bolts.

I'd get the friction ring.

Serious? That *****... I hate how slow that speed 1 is. I wish it was faster

Serious. And that's what modes 2 and 3 are for [emoji6]

Why would the guns have different speeds? Doesn't make sense to me that they would make different modes depending on the the anvil socket holding method.

I've been wanting one for a while, and today while at Farm and Fleet I finally splurged and bought a Tick just to play with... Get it home and discover the One-Key app requires Android 5.0 or higher.

So I guess I'll be returning it. :( The Android phone I use as a remote for my camera only has 4.4.2 on it and cannot upgrade. I also looked on the packaging and it doesn't say 5.0 and up anywhere on it. Just "Download the free app now! Android app on Google Play"

Only problem is mode 2 has more torque than my lug nuts require. Even with a long extension. Guess I'll have to stick to 2 impacts for lugs for now.

Get Torque sticks. Why would you need 2 impacts? Impacts aren't made to just hammer on Lug nuts, it requires more accuracy than that.

Tis is my best guess

Being that the pin detent model is aimed more toward the construction trades with it's positive socket retention the lower speed is increased as the assembly application torque values may not be as critical and for just running down fasteners the xtra speed is a time saving value.

And since the ring anvil is mostly the choice of automotive trades (or other mechanical assembly) there are probably many more applications that could use a slower tightening speed with a general low torque value.

Some things I could easily think of are lightly running down lugs or wheel bolts maybe starting a sequential criss cross tightening patterns on an assembly or just lining up holes and fasteners and still might allow for some adjustment of the part. :dunno:

One to loosen and one to tighten. I could get a torque stick but it's not that big of a deal to grab my m12 impact for tightening. I just don't understand why speed 1 is so slow it's basically useless. :dunno: I like to get them to about 50ftlb then lower the vehicle and torque them.

Let me know if the rohm fits...I thought I read the spindle size on the 2704 is unique, not like the first gen fuel hammer drill.

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Rohm made new chucks specifically because there's enough demand for the 2703/2704 to warrant it, they sent me one to check out and I just popped it on today. No issues at all. It's slightly shorter, all black, and has a cap at the end that spins freely so you don't mar your workpiece.

A compact 3-4Ah battery with 21700 cells would be [emoji120]

I would be very excited for that. My Dewalt 996 is stronger than the 2704 but the 2704 is more maneuverable. A slim pack with 5 21700 cells at 3000-4000 mAh would be the ultimate compromise between a compact drill and full size power.

Do you have a model number for the chuck? Thanks.

I'll get back to you on that.

Were you able to find the part number?

Looking through Rohms catalog I didnt see one with what I thought to be the correct thread. Ive read the 2nd gen hammer drill uses a 9/16 spindle, but I only see 1/2" spindle in Rohms catalog.

Thanks again.

On 4 mode impacts I use the mode 4 for tightening

Mode 1 on the 2763 gets me right around 50 lb/ft (guessing) with ~4 rattles, which only takes a few seconds (this isn't the Daytona 500). After that, it doesn't take much for the torque wrench to click off at 90 lb/ft...maybe a 90* turn or less. It's like clock work every time. I can't image the 2861 being that much different in its Mode 1, if anything it'll probably want 5-6 rattles. But to be fair, I've never used the Mid Torque. Maybe it is extraordinarily anemic in Mode 1 - even more so than the 2763 - and totally wild'n'crazy in the middle Mode 2. BUT even then, once you get a good feel for the tool (which sometimes that takes a while), putting it in Mode 2, giving the trigger a light/controlled pull, and letting it impact ~1-4 times shouldn't be difficult at all - period.

mid torque mode 1 i would say is about 30 ft-lbs and mode 2 goes over the 80 ft-lbs that my car lugs require with only 2-4 ticks of the impact - period. I can't say for sure what the torque of mode 2 and 3 are though.

Sounds like you need to get rid of it and use a different impact, that is, if it's giving you that much trouble. Power tools are supposed to help not hinder.

it works fine for everything but putting on lugs. I just don't understand why they have a faster mode 1 on the pin version. They both should have it.

Take off all lug nuts

Do repairs, rotate, etc

Put Torque stick onto Impact.

Put on all lug nuts.

Seems like maybe an extra 5 seconds of work and maybe $50-$80 in tools.

Every vehicle is different and 80 ft lbs works for you but may not work for other people.

Oh dang, I havent even taken mine out of the case, figured it was 4 mode like 2753 or 2754. Didnt realize this, which now disappoints me. Maybe I should sell it and wait for Gen2 lol

The mid torque only has 3 modes unfortunately

Yup, but the point of it all is to get the job done, not to only use that one mid torque impact to do the job. I have other impacts that are just as easy to use to install the lugs vs putting a torque stick (which I'd still have to buy) on my mid torque and using that.

I think everyone is missing my point and blowing this WAY out proportion. The only thing I was mentioning was a complaint that it is dumb to have a slower mode 1 on the friction ring impact than the pin impact. The mode 1 is way too slow to be of much value (especially on a 1/2" impact).

I just don't get all the complaining about the impacts being too strong putting on lugs????? How did you do lugs before? If you can't figure out how to not over torque them then why not get a 3/8 impact that is weaker?

Just what are the RPM and torque values for the 3 different modes on a new Mid Torque anyways? :headscrat

Modes: 3 (1,700, 2,100, and 2,400 RPM)

Found Here doesn't mention different modes and rpm's for the pin detent vs friction ring though.
