Conesensus on the M18 heat gun is it's kinda meh right? Unless you absolutely need cordless just grab a regular corded heat gun? I need one for a repair and I'm thinking I'll just stop by HF on the way home and check out the 2 that they have. The 12 intensity adjustable one I'm thinking'll be nice maybe. Not sure about the touch pad operation though... I do a lot of electronics repair junk (broken cell phones) and it'd be nice to have a real heat gun and not use a hair dryer. Also would be nice to not have to do heat shrink with a Bic lighter. I use a heat gun with a deflector at work and it works much better.

It also looks like Astro has a two temp gun that comes with a deflector set for pretty cheap on the ol' Amazon.

Quite honestly the Milwaukee cordless is expensive for what you get outside the convenience of having no cord. Features are limited and the maximum heat range is minimal...but if you just got have one :D

Corded is totally fine for bench work and the HF drill master unit can be had for $8.99 with coupon on a reg. basis I spend more than that for lunch most days :p

That electronic one does look fancy pants with the various heat settings...guess be worth trying it with 20-25% off coupon applied.

Other than that I'm not making any specific brand recommendations as there are so many but I do like my variable heat Ryobi AG 1200V heat gun and have had it for years and years, This Grizzly looks identical except for the color I know I paid way more than that for the Ryobi years ago.

So anybody have any cliue what the dia. of this tip set might be? :headscrat

If you do not already have a corded heat gun, definitely get that first.

After that you can decide if a cordless will be worth while.

Let me start by saying how much I appreciate the knowledge of this site. It was one of my better decision to join this forum.
At the sake of being redundant (I previously asked a similar question), I recently retired and am going to finally spend some time working on my cars and the house. I have had very few power tools in the past (only cordless was a porter cable drill). I have a mixed assortment of drywall drivers and a sears 7 inch saw. I was given a Milwaukee 2656 Impact Driver for Christmas (having read about Milwaukee here) from my wife. I love it and have used it many times already.
Now the question, I am looking for the next step in cordless and am debating a hammer drill (so many different styles of Milwaukee) vs a impact wrench. I would also like to purchase on Ebay since I have a $40 credit coming.
I am looking for advice on sellers (don't want a reconditioned piece of junk) and the type or style that would be most useful to me.
The impact wrench would most likely used for brake jobs etc. I don't currently have a air wrench.

Even though it has low CFM I'm still glad I got it for doing heat shrink out in the driveway or the north 40.

But if I need to prepare heat a part for spray paint or something I will use my Master corded or even my Ryobi corded.

Two different animals, really.

Maybe one day milwaukee will make a bad *** cordless???

It really comes down to what you think you'll need, use more, and/or benefit from the most.

The way I see it is, the drill is without a doubt more versatile and the impact driver CAN be used for sockets with adapters. However, the impact wrench is definitely more powerful and better suited for socket-type fastening. That, and you already have a drill.

All that said, "what do I think I'll use more?" is what I'd ask myself. Speaking from experience...you'll probably have both in a few months anyways

Just before Black Friday, I decided to move closer to the late 20th century and get into some cordless power tools. I read a lot online and talked to a few people and decided to go with Milwaukee stuff.

A short while later, now I have the following -

M18 Fuel -
2704 1/2" Hammer drill
2753 1/4" Hex impact driver
2720 Sawzall
2767 High torque impact wrench (w/boot)
2726 Hedge Trimmer
2728 Blower
2780 Grinder

0880 Wet/Dry Vacuum (The new version)
M12 3/8" Ratchet
A few 1/4" hex impact bit sets
The 100 lumen penlight

Batteries -

M18 9.0A x 2
M18 5.0A x 1
M18 2.0A x 1
M12 1.5A x 1

I'll have to get a group photo. I surprised myself, because I dove head first into this one and I don't usually do that. Very happy with my purchases so far.

I managed to take pretty good advantage of the various Black Friday and holiday deals and sold a few chargers and batteries to get the tool prices down. I have under $1000 into everything, which I think is pretty good for having 7 M18 fuel tools and 4 M18 batteries.

I haven't even used the drill, hedge trimmer, grinder, or vacuum yet. I find the 1/4" hex impact very useful and I really like the high torque impact for big truck lug nuts. I sorta talked myself into the Sawzall because I needed to get rid of a huge entertainment center (Had to be cut up and thrown away, of course) and it tackled that very well. I've never had any reciprocating saw and I can't see how I demo'd stuff without one for so long. The other day I cut up a truck bed cover and a few wood crates that I've been meaning to get rid of for so long and it was pretty fun to cut them up with the Sawzall.

I want the 2754 3/8" fuel impact wrench and the M18 grease gun. I kinda want the mid torque impact as well, but not sure. It is addictive...

So am I the first nut to have both versions of the M18 wet dry vac?

Here is the interesting part.... Drumroll.... The nozzle is a diff size between them and the new one is the same size as the M18 teapot vac! So now they are down to 2 diff vac nozzle sizes from 3.

Yeah I have one attachment for the old one I use a lot but now I can use all the teapot accessories with it, so not all bad.

First Milwaukee cordless purchase, courtesy of the recommendations on here. 1/2" mid-torque impact wrench kit:

Can't wait to try it out this weekend. Also picked up a set of Tekton deep impact sockets and impact extensions :rocker:

I had a new 2nd original new in my stash but traded for a new Fuel sawzall to make room for V2. Keep going back and forth if I want a another original also cuz I am nuts, most HDs have it but aint paying over $80. Would expect any shipped from online is going to be V2. Mine was from Zoro and hoped it would be V2 didnt know if they exhausted their original supply.
I just bought a second original style box vac for $79.

What's the consensus so far on the soldering iron?

I'm interested to hear this as well. It seems like a great idea, but from the pictures I've seen it looks like it would be too big and heavy compared to a corded iron or a butane iron. I use my PowerProbe butane kit a lot and I don't think I'd want anything more cumbersome.

It's not really heavy but it is awkward/long for any fine work. Touching it to twisted wires to solder a connection in a harness though it's fine. It didn't seem like it took that long to heat up but it does take an extremely long time to cool down. I recently had to travel to repair a gauge cluster out of a Silverado and I got this thinking it would have been nicer than bringing my whole solder station with and while I think I could have probably replaced the stepper motors with the M12 soldering iron it wouldn't have been a great experience.

Also thanks for the heatgun feedback guys. I think I'm going to swing by HF and grab one on the way home from work today and give that a shot. The one other thing that wasn't clear from me looking at their site is if the keypad electronic 12 temperature adjustable gun can be laid on it's "back" to point straight up and lock the trigger on. That's usually how I've done shrink wrap on harnesses for work. We've got guns you can point straight up with a curl air diverter on them that makes really nice looking heatshrinks and you've got both hands to maneuver the wire bundle.

Totally happy with the performance. So handy to not have set up my solder station. Again no cords no plugs. And the adjustable head angle is great feature

Sure its bulkier than a pencil :dunno:

IMP much better buy than the heat gun
My only peeve is that my Hexacon tips don fit

I see Nick's got 'em @ $70 shipped I paid slighty less than that using an ACME code promo including shipping.

Nice!

I recently watched a few video reviews on these new fuel ratchets

The 1/2" is the one I want too

The original in 3/8" form works fine for me

Edit: Anyone mind sharing source/price for the 2558-21

Online searching for me seems to mostly show -22 kits or the bare tool availability. The only -21 kit I see online (Amazon) is more money than the -22 version at all the major dealers. :wtf:

So is the -21 kit the same price as the -22 kit? About $230-240? If so guess its about even boot vs 2nd battery. I dont think they are making the -21 kits anymore. When I called Milwaukee they said they dont even have -21 kits in their system, maybe they are fakes lmao.

My 3/8 & 1/2 boots on backorder from Zoro, combined was $40 total when I did a big order with 25%.

I'm not a big boot fan (and haven't bought one yet for an impact wrench either) but looks to me it will definitely stop debris from getting into parts of head on the ratchet :)

It helps protect what your working on from getting banged up by the ratchet.
