I realize this doesn’t make any sense to do - cause its not cost effective... but to me, it looks like the “3 foot extension” for the new Milwaukee string trimmer multi tool thing - is what is being used as the output shaft off the base of the motor and battery.. so - acknowledging that even IF that was the case - and even IF Milwaukee GAVE you that $59 output shaft to convert your current trimmer to accept new accessories - you would still need to then buy the trimmer head just to get back to where you started, and then buy another accessory to finally make use of the system..
Guaranteed - there will be a promo where you buy the new string trimmer and get your choice of accessory head for free..
But yup - it looks like we MIGHT be fucked...
I think the only glimmer of hope would be them offering us a 2 piece shaft conversion. which that alone would NOT be too expensive to do, if we could use the existing trimmer head. we’d just need the output shaft of the new base unit, and the input shaft on the new string trimmer head, that we could then attach to just the trimmer head we already own - ASSUMING the heads themselves attach to the shaft the same way.
So lets assume the worst possible “good scenario”.. assuming they kept all other design factors the same, Milwaukee just split the shaft into 2 pieces. It would make sense to not change what you didnt need to, so thats entirely possible.. We may be able to make a parts order and buy the new 2 piece drive shaft, and replace the shaft ONLY on the current trimmer. If it was possible to do that conversion, i cant see (based off previous offerings) Milwaukee NOT offering an incentive to do that.. “either well ship you the parts, or you can send it in and we’ll do it for you”.. if they were willing to do that to make the rocket lights accept new 12.0 batteries, maybe theres a shot they’d do it for the trimmers..
I mean really - its 2 pieces of aluminum and a fiberglass or composite drive shaft.. theres gotta be a way.. looking at the pics of it, it APPEARS the new trimmer head and the old trimmer head attach to the shaft the same way.. so if you can just swap in the new 2 piece shaft on the old base unit, we MAY have a shot..
If we were smart - one of us could just CALL Milwaukee and ask.. lol. Although i think the parts manager didnt know they were offering the free battery conversion until after the press release for that, which was AFTER we found out about the 12.0 battery.
