Just received this on Saturday. Can’t wait to use it.

I made a short video of the tool running at 24,000 rpm:

2 pack of Aftermarket m12 3.0 (small style) batteries - $24 shipped w/coupon

I'm sure they ain't as good, but even if they're like 2.2 or 2.5 it might be worth trying.
Thinking about em as extras for my new jacket.

You folks that are buying aftermarket batteries have not had issues with them venting or anything?

Has anyone used the M12 die grinder with 1.5Ah batteries? I'm thinking about picking one up to clean hubs and wheels, but I only have two of the small batteries. $170 for the bare tool is doable. $260 for the kit with 2.0Ah batteries not so much.

It would really just see occasional use when I rotate tires/swap wheels, and I wouldn't mind burning through both batteries to get the job done. But I wouldn't want two dead batteries after three wheels, you know?

I first tried the M12 die grinder with a 3.0ah compact battery and it didn't like it at all (acted like thermal overload protection was kicking in). I then switched that battery out for a 6.0ah battery and all was good after that.

I've tried it with mine and didn't get a lot of time out of it. Granted I was just starting out and was doing a lot of grinding and rust removal. Most likely you'll have to rotate out the batteries.

It didn't even like a 3.0Ah battery? The kit comes with 2.0s...

I'm sorted of interested in buying the heated gloves for motorcycle riding? Anyone use them for that purpose?

I was considering them for snowmobiling, but they do not appear to be water proof.

Motorcycling might be ok if you arent riding in the rain.

Other companies make excellent jackets and gloves for these purposes with adjustable temp controllers and you simply plug in once you are on. Far better solutions than the Milwaukee one when you have a 12V source present.

Both of those have been in my local small scale store for 2-3 weeks. Still waiting for HD to release the regular winter gloves locally

Those of you who have the new M12 right angle die grinder, can you use regular 3” cut off wheels with it without any issues? A YouTuber I watch said Milwaukee recommends only up to 2” inch wheels.

Theres 3 different models of glasses, all available in tinted and clear. My HD showed the most expensive ones in stock ($39), the store in Staten Island shows the cheapest ($9). I practically begged two associates to find them for me, and one who i think might be a manager said they showed them coming in the 18th, but THINKS they might be holding them for their pre-black Friday thing on Nov 2nd, and thats why they werent out yet. Not sure, cause when i checked the glasses section, two slots on the shelf were already empty - so who knows.. all i know is I FINALLY have them - and with my luck the same pair i ordered from Acme on presale months ago will show up in 2 days.. I’m not driving across a bridge and paying a $13 toll to buy the other $9 glasses.. ill wait for those to show up since i ordered them from acme too.

HONEST opinion - these things ain’t worth $39 in my eyes. I mean the ones without the gasket are a lot cheaper like 19 or $29, (they look like theyre the same otherwise in pictures), and the basic models are $10. i honestly dont see this gasket thing surviving daily removal. But who knows. I like em, thats all i know. Polarized lens - advertised as “military grade” lens protection, and are suppose to be the “most” fog resistant of the bunch. Honestly - if i can wear them in the winter with a face mask or balaclava, and they dont fog up - my opinion on the high price will change..

The winter demo gloves were $34. Winter performance gloves were there also. Were a little cheaper, seemed like more insulation in em, but you lose all the protection at the finger tips. Had longer and actual cuff’s on them too. The demo’s say “waterproof LAYER”. So ill translate that into theres probably a perforated layer of plastic between the inside and outside layers, and the outside layer will still get sopping wet. They’ll be good for the occasional wet thing you come across - but i wouldnt bet on them in the cold rain. You need something leather you can treat with beeswax or snowshield for that. My Carhartts will be my designated “this is a horrible day” gloves.

Nice gloves - nice glasses though. Worth $80? Eh, but my waiting is FINALLY over..

I had 3 from powerextra i bought off amazon.. they all worked fine, but 2 of em just died on me. Not sure how old they were, or what happened (they may have just discharged a little too much from sitting after i used them) - and I’m not gonna pretend i work those things everyday. I just bought em as cheap extras since when i use those tools its usually just a few minutes..

If i used those professionally and need to rely on them somewhat - I wouldn’t buy aftermarket as the bulk of my battery supply. But they are worth having to avoid swapping batteries from one tool to the next - even if they just last 2 years IMO.. i mean really - they are half the price if you buy real m12’s on ebay, and 1/4 the price of full retail. The convenience of having them outweighs the gamble of them dying early - for me anyway. Your opinion may differ. If the chance of them dying after a year or two isnt worth it in your eyes, dont buy them.. but if youre not a guy running full batteries down everyday at work driving hundreds of screws - or just want 2 extras to keep in a flashlight or a saw - i think its worth picking up a few. Its not like you’re taking a big risk with $$, its $25 for TWO.

But no, none of them have leaked if thats what you mean by venting. Couple other guys have some aftermarket packs on here as well. From what i remember i think they were happy with them - but I’m pretty sure nobody cared about a side -by - side runtime test when they bought theirs either. I’m positive they arent ‘as good’ as real ones - but ‘good enough’ for the price.

This chart says it's not recommened. My guess is it's too much load for the tool & the overload safety will kick in. I did see one video on YT where the guy did use 3" cut off wheels & said it was no problem but I think he was just cutting a piece of small all thread, I forget.

I doubt it'll hurt to try it though. I won't have mine until later this week but I doubt I will try. I've never used a cut off wheel with a right angle die grinder, only straight. Seems awkward to use?

Venting is the term used when they explode. They won't leak like an alkaline battery. Here's a video where you can see what happens when they vent. It's on the more scary side which was more common in the past. The cells have gotten a lot safer over the years. They'll get hot and let the smoke out, but the fire isn't very common.

So is Offerup pretty much stolen goods? I'm seeing brand new M18 Surges for $100, M12 3/8" stubby for the same, etc. One guy has over 50 brand new Milwaukee Fuel tools for these crazy prices.

Can't really come to that conclusion & blame Offerup, it's the people posting. Plenty of stolen **** on CL & other sites. I've only recently started using Offerup & the couple of guys I have purchased in my area seemed like good honest guys.

But I too wonder where people get stuff sometimes if not stolen. There's a seller on ebay that I got a new M12 CP3.0 starter kit from. The seller has a lot of them & I must have lost 15 auctions before finally winning mine for the price I wanted to pay. The seller actually lives right down the street from me (shipped from address) & this area is not a bad neighborhood, good people for the most part but yeah I know that doesn't mean anything. How do they get so many & be able to sell them so cheap considering ebay & paypal takes almost 15%.

So when you see those cell phones lighting up like a Jet engine, that's what they call venting in the Lithium Ion world.

That's what scares me about Lithium Ions. Usually it's poorly or cheaply engineered/designed cells or cells that are not properly managed or protected.

Only a 1" wire cup, 2" wire wheel, 2" cut off. Thats disappointing. What are the max's of the M18 grinder. Why isnt any of this **** in the manual?

How it usually works is the thieves are usually low lifes and they give/sell to another person who is more reputable looking to move the stuff.

The problem is the compact packs use 3 cells and the XC packs 6 cells. The 21700 cell wont fit 3 of them in the tools as they are bigger than the 18650. They need to work out that problem. There was a patent or something where they mixed 18650 & 21700 cells in an XC pack, but that would be a problematic implementation.

21700 in M12 packs will not look like they do now, very interested how they solve this problem.

Do you guys think Milwaukee will release 21700 cell (high output) batteries for the M12?

Tried out the new sunglasses today, in light rain/mist/drizzle for a few hours. Working with a guy that likes to playfully break my chops over all my Milwaukee stuff. He wears some shooting safety sunglasses. This was our exchange..

Me- “hey, do your glasses keep fogging up in this ****?”
Him - “yea, its ****** annoying”
Me - “oh - cause mine ain’t” (insert smart-*** grin here)
Him - “go **** yourself”

Been trying to find a decent deal on a M12 6.0. Got this on OfferUp for $80. Not super crackhead prices, but decent enough. I started cutting into it before taking the picture.

I missed out on an amazing deal for a new M18 Surge with a 12.0 for $120 last night. Gotta be fast around here. My problem is most popup up on opposite side of town from me.

Blown mosfet. A new switch wont help. Will have to send it in. Sounds like a common problem with those dremel style tools.
