My 3/8" Mid Torque was just delivered!!

Congrats! You'll dig it. Mine (1/2") is getting its first real workout by doing the suspension in my Mini (LCA's, struts all around, etc., which first requires removing the front of the car and the subframe - lol). It's been a champ!

I don't own much cordless tools, just an old DeWalt 12v drill that is on it's third set of batts. And I have air ratchets and impacts. Was gonna break down and buy a no name 1/4" hex chicom impact, maybe a ratchet. Pulled the trigger on this instead;
M12 FUEL 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/4 in. Hex Impact Driver Kit with Free M12 3/8 in. Ratchet. $169.

Seemed like a good deal?

Yes, nice deal. I didn't buy as a kit but I have those M12 items and paid a lot more for them all individually. They're excellent by the way! The driver is compact but pretty powerful.

I recently used my M12 fuel impact driver to run a 1.5" hole saw through a 2x4, it wasn't particularly happy about it but it got all the way through it and never smelled like it was burning the motor. Particularly impressive for a 12v tool.

My 1/2" Gen 2 mid-torque should arrive tonight. Used the HD buy up to 499 and get 150 off so its 30% off for each tool.
Gen 3 power levels have changed to 250 ft-lb which is much less than any Gen 2 mid-torque

EDIT: Oops, I read that wrong, I see what you were saying now.

I think you read the specs wrong. Gen 3 is more powerful.

Gen 3 2 mid torque is 650 ft/lbs nut busting & 550 ft/lbs fastening
Gen 2 1 mid torque is 600 ft/lbs nut busting & 450 ft/lbs fastening

Gen 3 compact is the one that is 250 ft/lbs nut busting now. The gen 2 compact is 210 ft/lbs nut busting.

I've been itching to upgrade my gen 2 1 mid torque & gen 2 compact to the newer ones but I'm not sure the difference in cost is worth it for me. The newer impacts cost more now too. But there is that $339 deal for both of them from HD right now which is a good deal, still I'm on the fence.

EDIT: N/M the combo deal is for both 3/8", I want 1/2" & 3/8".

Yup, you're right, doh!

The line I quoted in bold caught me off guard. I'll fix my post.

But now I'm looking at the new impacts again. HD has a promo right now where I can save $80 if I buy both. My local HD has em in stock too. I might just end up with them this weekend if the promo is good in store. Damn, wasn't planning on spending money on tools for a while too!

Thanks for the clarification. The vast variety of Gen2 or Gen3 compact vs regular ain't always clear as mud and the HD website makes it a bit tougher.

Yeah sorry about, my mistake in reading your post.

Although I have a gen 1 mid torque & gen 2 compact & know better, I confused myself as if the mid torque I have now was a gen 2 like my compact. Thanks for dacan for catching that.

Anyways, just maybe, I may be joining you in owning a gen 2 mid torque this weekend.

This is what I ordered at 30% off to complement my heavy 2763-20 and it has the specs you mentioned which is much lighter than the 2763 monster. HD lists it as Gen2 but whatever generation it’s the type of mid-torque I’m looking for that will be used more than the monster 2763 LOL83F243D9-04CD-4FCB-86A5-80D2C606DEE7.jpeg

FYI: local HD had no issue with my >499 purchase of 3 tools to get 150 off when I returned the unopened Gen3 compact and maintained the 30% off the Gen2 and another tool. Seems its a non-issue if you want to save some $

Ok... I did it. I ordered the (expertly) machined spindle from eBay... to convert my 3" Cutoff Tool... into a 1/2"x18" Belt Sander.

IMG_0171.JPG

The included instructions are well written. It is actually fairly easy to switch back and forth betwix cutoff and sander.

My Astro P sander needs a 4mm hex to remove the "works" from the air tool. Zero issues... just remember to remove the sanding belt first.

Removing the bits from the 3" cutoff was pretty simple... The instructions mention a "shim washer" that I did not have... Pictured here are the items removed and will remain in a box while the tool is setup for sanding. The FOUR T8 screws are reused with both setups.

IMG_0172.JPG

Including the time it took me to walk to my toolbox 3 times for the following:

1. 3/16 hex T Wrench (to remove the cutoff wheel)
2. T8 Driver (to remove the 4 screws holding on the guard on the cutoff)
3. 4mm hex (to remove the works from the Astro P air tool)

The modification took all of 2 minutes. FYI A T8 bit is included with the kit on eBay.

Used the sander yesterday to help make a bracket to hang my weed wacker. I had 60 grit... it was quick and easy to handle. I will belt up some 150 grit next time to gauge it's efficiency.

Ah damnit! I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread today. Forget the weekend, I just got back from HD & I now own the 1/2" gen 2 mid torque & 3/8" gen 3 compact.

I played around with different combos to get the $150 off. Best price I could get on the 2 impacts was 24% off using the M18 hackzall as the 3rd tool which I already have. Returned the M18 hackzall. All the other qualifying tools I tried gave me only 17-20%. So I saved $111. I'm happy with that!

The 150 off 500 is only specific tools right, not any Milwaukee M18?

Yeah, it looks like it. Here's the pic I took showing the tools.

Basically you want to come as close to the qualifying amount to get the biggest discount on the tools you want if you're returning 1 or 2 of the items. In my case I was shooting for $499 to get the $150 off. I wanted the 2 impacts so I needed a 3rd tool that was $121 to get $499. I tried adding a battery combo for $129 but that battery combo wasn't part of the deal. It still gave me a total discount of $120 though but the discount off the impacts was not as much, was like 17% off instead of the 24% that I got. So the best discount I could get was adding the hackzall for $159 plus I was looking for items that were in stock at my local store.

The higher you go over $499 the less discount you'll get per item because it's taking the $150 discount from all 3 items. You can play around with different combos on their website to see the discounts then go to the store if that's where you want to buy them.

I'm seeing some chatter on SD about there being tools that will apply to the buy more/save more promo which aren't listed as being part of the promo. I think I might just be chasing stuff I'd like to have instead of stuff I need. I should probably just buy the 3.0/6.0 battery combo and walk away with the rest of my wallet intact....

I used it on the air compressor and right angle die grinder at Acme. At some other sites neither were listed as eligible.

Grabbed an m12 stubby a week or so ago to add to the collection.

Love it.

I have been using an M18 impact driver hex with adapters for quarter and 3/8 sockets for a couple of years. It has worked well for what I’ve needed it for, but just a bit too long and unwieldy at times.

Stubby has taken over and is the perfect substitute.
I do find that I usually leave a 3” extension on it. I guess I am just used to so much daylight between the tool and fastener, lol

Now the hex driver will be relegated to it’s original and likely intended task of bits

HD website shows M18 grinder as 119.99, with a bogo offer consisting of 5 or so SKUs. Added a 5.0 battery to my cart, no adjustment.
Went to the store after work, they replicated what I saw - on the app, website, and store system. Tried doing 2 of the same item...same issue.
After talking to 2 managers and homedepot.com I was able to get the items for 129 plus tax.

Thanks for the heads up! I had the same experience where I added the grinder and battery to my cart and nothing was adjusted. I opened up a chat and they first tried to tell me that they could do $149 for both, but they adjusted it manually and honored the $119 price for everything after I pointed out the wording in the BOGO offer:

It doesn't work that way with HD. They'll prorate each item when they have separate skus & the refund value will be listed on the receipt.

In this case, because the cart doesn't reflect the BOGO, they have you buy both at full price, give them your order number via chat, and they issue a separate refund. So I have a receipt that shows both items bought at full price.

Personally I'm keeping the battery anyway, but I said theoretically a guy could make money and get a free grinder.

Have you guys found anything explaining the buy one get one promotion. I spent an hour on with customer service yesterday’s couldn’t get an answer from them. All I got was my items should work with the promo but the website was not allowing it. They were supposed to have it back up but it still is not working. Just wondering what all items this worked on.

It seems to vary based on reseller. Also some people have said that tools that aren't listed are working at HD so who knows?

I'm on the phone with HD support now trying to get BOGO on two grinders. The webpage is misleading by indicating BOGO. The actual BOGO deal is with the purchase a FUEL tool. The option of getting the grinder/5.0 battery/circular saw/hackzall is with the purchase of a Fuel tool.

When you shop in store you have to purchase a Fuel tool in order to get the free items.

This was my understanding as well... I passed on the deal... uhm... as I have too many Milwaukee tools at this time... sad face... so said the wife

After 35 minutes on the phone with HD support I was able to get the BOGO deal on two 2680-20 grinders. I had to place the order over the phone and have it shipped to my house. I already have the M18 Fuel grinder which is amazing so I hope i am not disappointed in this version. At least i won't have to keep switching from cutting wheel to flap disc anymore.

I went to the store and after 30 minutes customer service nor the assistant manager could do anything. They offered me 50% off of the battery which is no where close to the special buy discount. They ended up calling homedepot.com and basically they said it was an online only deal and that their system was down and they couldnt do anything (one sales associate said he couldnt check his schedule online and the girl said she couldnt clock in because of that)

Got home and did a online chat, about 45 minutes later I was able to pick up 2 grinders and 2 5.0 batterys for $236shipped. I had to buy them and then they readjusted the price (it had to be shipped to my house because they dont have authority to change prices for in-store products)

ymmv but worth the hassle imo since i dont own any 5.0 batterys and I've wanted a cordless grinder to convert into a contour belt sander!

Picked up the M18 Blower this weekend... I know a few have said it a battery hog, but I gotta say, I was pretty impressed.
HC9.0 battery went a full 20 mins and it blew almost as well as my gas powered back pack blower... so much so that I see no reason to hang onto it, so another Offer Up add coming! It certainly way out performed the 40v Ryobi blower I had.
Totally happy so far!

I got busy with life and haven't been on here in a couple years. (New farm, new job, 2 babies, moving ) but the red disease has been growing in my toolbox recently. Recently dumped the last of my c3 tools. I was waiting till they died but finally got impatient and wanted M12.

Recent adds are:
M12 fuel driver impact combo
Single head M18 Rocket.

My question. Did all Home Depots stop allowing return of a free item promo for MSRP or was if just the location. Intelligence and politeness were severely lacking in that customer service department that day lol.

As far as I know, HD would never take a return at MSRP for a free item promo. The free item and the additional item were always pro-rated on the receipt.

To everyone getting the B1G1 Fuel tool deal. You're lucky. None of my local home depots have ever matched their website or adjusted anything for me. Most of the store managers near me are flat out jerks about it.

Tried online chat, they refused to budge.

I know it’s super frustrating. Tried to buy this earlier this week and talked with chat and she was going to do it for me. Waited because she said they were working on fixing the glitch and I wanted to use my PayPal credit to purchase. Waited 2 days still not fixed and tried again and was told they can’t help me. How does a company have a valid promotion but not let anyone be able to purchase using the promotion.
