Here's something that I thought was interesting. I recently got my first 8.0 battery. Was trying to decide which one I would use with my blower, the 8.0 or the 9.0 that I'm using now. Figured I'd use whichever one is lighter. Well both weigh exactly the same, 38.3 oz! Ok, well I guess it don't really matter then unless the 8.0 will boost it's performance any but I doubt I'll notice.
Wish I could get 2x3.0s for close to the magic $10 per amp hour mark.
Wouldn't that be nice.

I think I am just going to have to wait Milwaukee out on this one and hope they start including 3.0s in the package deals hopefully. This is one of those things where it doesn’t pay to be an early bird buyer.
I got two 6.0s on a deal a while back which are still relatively new, but also could mean there isn’t as much demand. Speaking of which my curiosity got better of me after darkzeros post.
8.0s and 6.0s are the same size.
And they also weigh the same according to my cheap Amazon scale.
So am not sure the 6.0s are that great other than the price in a package deal was good. Think I rather have an 8.0 all day long assuming the same $ per amp hour cost.
Another annoying thing is I sometimes get the two batteries confused and later wonder why the run time isn’t as long. The 6.0 and 8.0 look the same in the dark which is the only distinguishing factor since they have the same dimensions and mass. Might need to neon spray paint them one of these days so I don’t get my m18 ammo confused.
On a more positive note. Look how pretty my chainsaw is after conquering a privitt

That is really interesting regarding size and weight of the the 6.0 vs the 8.0. I got 2 6.0+router in November for 175 and I got the new gen 2 mid torque that I planned to use with the 6s. I also bought the 2853-22 packout deal that had 2 3.0 HO that I also considered for the mid torque for lighter applications. I always thought the 8.0 was overkill for the mid torque, even though I saw a bunch of videos showing it could outdo its ratings with an 8.0, but now with this new info, maybe I’ll look into an 8.0 for the future.
I am curious as well what the purpose of the 6.0s are. I guess like you said it’s the cheaper version like the m12 4.0 and 6.0.
At any rate, thanks for the info

Grabbed the M12 Fuel Drill, Impact, and Die Grinder from HD today and got my $80 off. Would’ve hit the $500 mark to get the $150 off but they didn’t have a 3/8” Fuel ratchet in stock.
According to his test, the 6.0s put out a bit more umph which I totally did not expect.
If I ever get more power hungry tools I'll probably stick to buying more 8.0s. The 12.0 is just way too big & heavy for my needs.
But I got mine on ebay. There were a bunch of people selling these & many were competing against each other for the lowest price. I paid $133 shipped for the combo pack. Then the day after my purchase more listings popped up for $129 shipped & even saw one go as low as $125 shipped. They sold fast.
Too late now but for next time....
With HD sales, they'll prorate each item to reflect the discount. For example, I just took advantage of that $500 deal a couple of weeks ago. I wanted the new M18 Compact & Mid-Torque impacts. Buying just the 2 I would have only got the $80 off which is 17% off. But I bought a 3rd tool to get the $150 discount, walked right back in & returned that 3rd tool which put me at 25% off the 2 impacts I wanted.
Good to know the 6.0's have a little more balls. To be honest can't even tell putting them to the test, bucking 12 inch + trees with the m18 chainsaw. That's the only tool where I think a 12.0 is truly worth it for the output, ability to handle heat from discharge, and capacity. Plus its not like the chainsaw is a one handed tool. Secondarily, it can run M18 lights and fans for a long time which is sometimes nice so long as they stay stationary.
Thanks for the lead on the battery deals. Ebay clearly trumping HD here. Still probably going to hold off for either a $10 per amp hour deal or a 3.0 in package. If I really need another 8.0 makes sense to wait for the M18 worm saw + free 8.0 deal (last couple of HD special buy of the days got sold out quick) which works itself to under $10 per amp hour. This sort of implies that the 3.0s under current market pricing are still over $15 per amp hour which seems out of line to me for now.
Anyone happen to know the weight of the 3.0s vs the XC 5.0s? Weight savings may be the main justification here for me and my wimpy arms. Pretty much all of the tools I put a 5.0 (drill and impacts) on don't really benefit from the HO batteries.
Dang, I’d only I would’ve known. I gotta say, it was a struggle to get the discount in the first place. I confirmed on the app that it was still active, but for some reason the discount would’ve apply in my cart. Then I went to the store since I was out running errands anyway, and it didn’t give the discount at the cash register. It took almost 30 minutes of 2 cashiers and the manager. They tried to say that it was online only, but the manager said he would take the $80 off manually “this time.” I must’ve shown them the special on my phone 10 times. Got the $80 off though lol
You're in luck! I just happened to have my scale out & a couple of tools out with those batteries. On my scale, the CP3.0 weighs 21.2oz & the XC5.0 weighs 26.1oz.
Yeah, I've heard some HDs being dicks about it even though that's what the posted sale is.
And the returning hack, it's not like it's something shady or anything like that. If you look on your receipt it will show the max refund value for each tool. Of the 4 HDs by me that I have been doing this, none of them ever question me or give me a hard time about it. They only ask if anything is wrong with what I'm returning. I just say, nope, didn't open it & changed my mind about the purchase. And usually I just walk right back in after purchasing to return. I'm not the only one who does this either, I think I learned about it here on GJ or YT.
If they tell you something like you have to return everything, that's not true, just go to another HD to return if you can. It's only true for free w/ purchase items that don't have it's own seperate packaging & sku #.
Well technically it's not to late. You can go & repurchase everything you got plus whatever else to get the $500min/$150 discount. Return the tools that you want with your first receipt, then return all the other extra items. That is if it's worth your time.![]()
You are awesome. Less than 5 oz and same volume definitely motivates me to stick with my fleet of 5.0s for now.

Yeah I saw people posting about doing it. It just didn’t cross my mind when they didn’t have the tool I wanted. Who knows, maybe Milwaukee will come out will other tools I want in the M12 line and then HD will run the special again so I can be smarter again.
I hear yeah, sometimes I get excited just buying new tools & don't think sometimes. $80 off is still a great deal. I never thought I would have bought so many of my Milwaukee tools from HD. And they definitely will have more deals.
BTW, how you liking your 4Runner? I've been wanting to buy a 5th gen T4R for a while now. I've been driving an 01 Tacoma for 15+ yrs now.
We’re loving it. Occasionally I miss the bed of the Taco, but the increase in interior room has been great plus I still have my trailer. With my sons car seat in the rear passenger side, I can put the front passenger seat all the way back and have plenty of left room and I’m 6’2”; couldn’t do that in the Taco. Gas mileage is the same, the 4.0 is more powerful and seems to have a better, broader torque curve than the 3.5 in the Taco, plus despite only being a 5 speed auto, the shifting is so much better than the 6 speed auto and almost no gear hunting. Very happy with our purchase. The only thing I’d trade it for is a CrewMax Tundra. In GJ fashion, I recommend you buy one, and keep the one you have. “Can never have too many “ applies to trucks too right?
Haha! Good to hear! Yeah I don't plan on ever selling my Taco. It's old & outdated/basic but I love the thing. Got over 250K mi now & never gave me a problem, just maintenance which I do all myself. Plus they don't make small trucks anymore. Mine is a dbl cab & has a short bed so the bed isn't all that useful but it has been at times. I'm really looking forward to getting me a T4R. Thanks.
The M12 23ga pin nailer made me wake up this morning as I read about it... I already own two pin jailers that eat air... hmmm but one that is hoseless sounds interesting.
So I took my 2780-20 4 1/2" grinder out to do some real work. That was a mistake. I know it has been said before but that thing is for quick work only. Not only does it eat batteries like crazy but you can't run the thing hard at all. I needed to cut through a motor mount that I was changing because the bolt had turned to rust and the mount was stuck on there. Couldn't get the vice grips on there with the rest of the mount in the way. The tool shut down multiple times due to over temp protection and I honestly wasn't running it that hard compared to other grinders I've used in the past. Even smaller sized ones like this.
I don't hate the tool, it works great for anything fast and has plenty of power in short bursts but man do I wish I'd had a REAL grinder when I needed to cut through that mount.
That definitely sounds frustrating.
What batteries were you using? The grinder really benefits from HO batteries as discussed slightly above. Have overheated plenty of 5.0s and even a 9.0 as well with my fuel grinder using a cutoff wheel. 6.0s seem to be a good match.
Am personally surprised tools like the fuel sawzall and hedge trimmer don’t do the same. I guess they don’t use as much juice. Wish Milwaukee had a chart of max draw for reference.

Hey, you guys with a transfer pump.
I'm considering the transfer pump as a tool to keep the water off my pool cover in the fall and spring. The specs say up to 480 gallons per hour.
Am I making a mistake thinking I can pump a couple hundred gallons of water in 30 - 60 minutes whenever 4 - 8 inches accumulates on the pool cover?
.
I have the transfer pump and use it all the time. I've never tested/verified the gallon per hour figures but looking at the water coming out of the hose, it looks just about like it does coming straight out of the spigot (until you try to put your thumb over the hose!)I have been waiting for a deal on it for the same use, heard mostly good things, it will definitely work faster than the generic corded $50 one I got on amazon.
Shouldn't be a problem - I've pumped that much water with mine before and I didn't even get through half of a 9.0 battery. Couldn't recommend this this thing more, it's a great pump.![]()

So what's the deal with the 5.5Ah HO batteries? Haven't seen any mention of them here are they only available over my side of the pond? Claim is 50% more power and runs 50% cooler.
I believe they are known as the XC6.0 High Output in the US market.
This is a slightly educated guess on my part, but I gather there are different laws about naming and advertising in Europe (EU?) and these are labeled differently because of that. I seem to recall the Dewalt 20v line being called 18v in Europe for similar (or perhaps, the same) reasons.
If that is the case, basically the high output batteries do run cooler with more energy, as advertised. They use 21700 cells instead of the older 18650 cells of the previous generation of batteries.

I've pumped two 60 gallon rain barrels (slightly) up hill to a storage cistern on less than two bars of an 8.0 battery for what it's worth.
I'm fairly sure I'm hitting the overtemp shutoff on the tool itself. I burned a 5.0 battery almost instantly. The 9.0 I had on there was a little warm/fine but the tool was HOT.
